I grew up with the lake shore west line behind my house by Clarkson and remember these . I'm still trying to figure out what those other engines were that had no windows or anything that were behind these sometimes?

You most likely saw an APU, its the same as the APCU here and was actually once an F7 B unit, except it has no cab and powers the cars if say a locomotive has no HEP. Which at the time many locomotives didn't.

05:45 - Another correction: The Loma Prieta earthquake did NOT happen in Los Angeles (southern California), but in San Francisco as well as other places in northern California.
Good on the other correction as I remember when it hit (we were affected in Sacramento, which is about 100 miles (~160km) northeast of San Francisco.
While SoCal does get seismic activity, so does NorCal (San Francisco), and even CenCal isn't immune, with an earthquake hitting in 1983 near the Fresno County City of Coalinga.

That's a CN ET44AC, its an actual locomotive, not an APCU (That was just background footage for the video).

@@GamingRailfanner any chance you or they could post it? I've got hundreds of photos and slides of these units, but no videos- have made several prototypical HO scale models of them as well.

Hello thanks for the video and I see that Pensyfan 19 Replied with a An appreciative comment, Which is good unfortunately I was not able to even get his handle from your video I’m not certain whether it was an audio blurb or what it was however I appreciate the effort without question at the beginning when you’re discussing APCU, APU, DMU…… One cannot assume that people know what you’re speaking of…. when creating and distributing Contant it’s important that people explain Exactly what the acronym refers to unfortunately people use an acronym now to simply go and pick up groceries or do you know or for your information everything is simplified unfortunately people who are not aware may not understand what a particular acronym means for example the difference between “APCU” and “APU” …… Unfortunately many may not understand these acronyms…. I am not attempting to actors someone’s father or teacher however I’m merely making a suggestion perhaps Collett creative criticism but all in all I found a video Quite entertaining and thank you
