A dipole antenna is the basis for most antenna designs - 468/f where f= frequency in mhz, gives you the length of a half wave piece of wire. Cut the wire to that length, and cut the in half - attach one end to the coax shield and the other to the center. To receive only, whatever length of wire you can manage
Good luck. I got my tech then less than a year later my general. If you use ham radio prep you might just want to do general. I wish I would have just did my general the first time. Just my thoughts. I'm sure you are going to have a lot of fun either way.
Instead of getting my license I just use someone else's call sign from across the country. It's public knowledge name and call sign. If someone checks what area my call sign is from I just say I'm on vacation 😂 So cool 😎
@@HamRadioConcepts Appreciate it Eric! I know conditions may not be great for a live stream, but it would be cool to see and interact with live conditions. Stay safe down there! 73
Very good Eric. This is why we need to save our bands ! You could have had a weather station connected thru like Meshtastic as a example . the 900 MHZ band that some one else wants. This could give weather date to the hurricane center. Someone may be doing that now ! . Stay safe ! 73 from NY
Good luck, stay safe! As luck would have it, we're expecting to have to deal with what's left of this storm when it hits Indiana. I may be on the air myself tomorrow if things hit the fan. 73, KD9ZKS
Please, all, contact your representatives in the Federal Government and express how important it is to preserve, encourage, and grow this hobby. It has been a source of technical and emergency talent for generations -- yet many in our government think that it is outdated in the age of the internet. Natural disasters always prove otherwise. Cuts in FCC funding used to support Amateur Radio are always a problem, and our representatives need to be educated on how unwise defunding is. We should be promoting Amateur Radio in our school systems, and in homeschooling -- it is an ideal curriculum for supporting STEM and creating that next generation of engineering talent.
Sitting on my boat down here in La Paz, Baja California Sur. I tuned into the 14.3 network and I can pick up a bit of it. Not so much on the other frequency. I'm not a big ham operator, I just have one on my boat. I assume you guys point your signals towards the area.
Hams need to reorganize their emergency communications. I believe they would be of great value if they were more organized and if the government would help fund equipment and support them in other ways . The radio technology they have should be able to help these people in the rural areas to get help and let families know they are ok. I looked all over the internet for frequencies and only found on my the NHW frequency. They airwaves should be buzzing with Hams helping these people in need. Maybe I am wrong ? Tnx Joe

don't tell a POTA activator about the importance of the HWN on 14.325, and the various nets on 14.300. They'll lose their friggin minds if you tell them that 14.325 is pretty much off limits when a tropical storm or a hurricane is approaching the US. POTA activator: nobody owns a frequency! Well, you are right jaggoff, nobody owns a frequency, but only lids don't familiarize themselves with, or respect, existing net frequencies, and days and times of operation in order to stay clear of long-established nets. But you go ahead and activate your park, jaggoff.
Hi, I am getting an emergency hand held emergency radio for my girl who lives in the Charleston, SC area. Where can I get radio frequencies for her area. I searched but can't seem to find anything. Thank You.
They need a 40 meter frequency listed on the website for region 1 and 3 7.268 MHz is only used in region 2 north and South America and Hawaii or Caribbean that just makes sense this hurricane watch net needs to go beyond hurricanes like cyclones in regions 1 and 3 hf is a world wide ham radio band or bands it just makes sense

Can you share with me the way to make a an antenna out of 16 gauge speaker wire for 20-40 meter using a G90? Thanks!

Currently studying for my technician license. This is cool what you are doing. Stay safe Eric
Good luck to you. 73’s
For another study source, can also download a Tech study guide. Look for KB6NU Tech study guide

Stay safe. As bad as it will be, I’m glad amateur radio is there to help with it’s core purpose.
We need a live stream! Let’s go!!!!
Waiting for conditions, but I'll do it for you.

Lets hope it is just some rain and not a cat 5. Good luck from Scotland.
Thanks for the video, a live stream when the storm arrives would be cool. I'll be monitoring from California . Stay safe.

Starlink is another good option for emcomms, so good, can be combined with amateur radio nicely.
Starlink is not amateur radio however
Can we listen online?
As a pilot I am looking to do more work from hotels. What have you found to be a good antenna for use in the hotel ?
What antenna are you using in a hotel? I am in them all the time and have not found a great solution yet.
Listening on 40 now

Exactly!
What is your antenna setup currently and in case of strong wind
Are you running VHF through satellite at all? Or would that be possible with hurricane conditions?

I checked both Frequencies and don't hear anyone talking. What happened to this net? - WA1VVR
Are local ARES groups active there?
Be sure and put your truck where it doesn't get blown away, flooded or such to be able to use it's radio.
Wow! The mobile sounded so much cleaner. What antenna were you running on the vehicle?
Little Tarheel HP
@@HamRadioConcepts And I guess some extra wattage from the 7100 I assume. I just got a 705 and now thinking of adding the Xigu amp/antenna tuner.
What case is that for the 705?

How do you find this information?
what brand/model radio?
