The Gillen family in Ballina, Mayo has a direct link to Niall of the nine hostages (Kingdoms). Variants of the surname name ‘Gillen’ include Gillan and O’Gillen. This name in Irish is O’Giollain and latter variants are the anglicised forms of this. This name is taken from the Gaelic word ‘giolla’ meaning ‘lad’. This family were from the clan of Eoghan who were a group descended from the Eoghan, son of the famous ‘Niall of the nine hostages’, from whom the O’Neills take their name. They were located in Counties Donegal, Tyrone and Derry. Known for their kindness and creativity.

I'm a black man and Nial is my DNA grandfather. Hi, I"m Harrold. I was born and raised in San Diego, CA and now live in Atlanta, GA as an adult. I grew up knowing and identifying as an African American. Recently I have my DNA history sequenced and I am a direct paternal line grandson of Niall of the Nine Hostages. But if you saw me in passing walking down the street, you'd likely see me as a Black Man. Quite Shocked, but DNA doesn't lie. What is crazy is that I know on my mom's side of the family they are from the Tyus Clan. So I guess it goes to say that I'm a Black Irishman? Only in DNA, not in culture. I do like Colcannon and champ, Boxty and Soda Bread, I guess now I know why LOL. I've asked a geneticist in the UK and in Ireland to test my DNA even more but I haven't gotten anyone interested yet. I'm enjoying finding videos on TH-cam about my Irish family and the line of my DNA grandfather NIALL who died in 428. I guess this means, I'm a Prince? LOL

"Black Irish" has traditionally meant White Irish with black hairs instead of red, because of the refugees from the Spanish armada fleet sinkin off Ireland.
American "black" folks (not really, but hybrid) average 40% white. Snoop Dogg 39%, Whoopee Goldberg 8%. You can see the difference in percentage in their features, such as thicker lips on Whoopee, also it is a feature of unmixed black folks for the chin to recede, which is closer to Whoopee's chin than to Snoop's.
Many other features could be contrasted, but it would take searchin for many photos from different angles and what I've written should be enough to make the point about different percentages of white ancestry in "black" (but not really "black" but hybrid) folks.

Also, that makes us cousins through Njall, since I am from the Morrow family that is descended from Njall on one side and killed him on the other.
