Hope your still biking mate , just watched your video because I'm just doing valve clearances on my Bandit 600. What a job ive had getting rocker cover off , front screw was seized and rusted in solid. Had to virtually dig it out but it's out . You always give good tips based on your experience thanks for sharing .
@@trebor4460 good mate glad to hear it . You ever been to Matlock mate ,if you haven't you wanna pay a visit, gets a bit busy at weekends and bank hols especially when weather it's sunny weather. See you mate.
its so much easier watching a vid than going by the book, thats why i do the vids, encourages fellow bikers to have a go themselves and not get ripped by the garages. ;)
Great video! I always figured the threads and lock nuts would be easier (have done a few shim valve adjusts before) but didn't realize it's just THAT easy, thanks! Always cooler to know what my 600 looks like on the inside as well
Very good video:) Your explanation helps understand the procedure. Thanks man! (But you don't need to take off signal cover generator just turn the wheel :) )
nice video been fixing bike for 30 year you should use 2 feeler gauge under the adj.the rocker arm will wobble on the shaft, and thats the proper way of doing it .
I used my own judgment I'm an engineer and you just get use to tightening things correctly..easy to overtighten these and strip the thread ..the tourque is only 7lb per foot so if you have a torque wrench prob best to use it .😉
@@sickcowpie8586 I used the old gaskets but be careful putting the rocker cover back on as the spark plug gaskets are so easy to dislodge and oil pissed out if not seated right 😉
Alright mate, lovely bike you got there. Just got a question for you. Just had the clearances and tappets adjusted on my bandit 12, there's now a ticking noise coming from the top of the motor that I haven't noticed before. Is this normal? I have read that these motors do tick or rattle a bit. Only had it a week and don't know what is or isn't normal. Cheers
Leo 71 hi buddy ues it's normal to have a bit of ticking on top end when they were Set one of the clearances was prob set at the top end of the top.. the time start worrying is wjen u ain't got a tick..then the valve clearances ain't enough and thays wjen valves burn out . Keep her shiny side up 😉
Thank you so much!!!! Best video!!!! My old lady is from ‘99 with 26.000 km and I will check the valve like you. And I know that your Video will help me a lot ✌️👍 Thank you buddy
Yes defo do at check specially with 50000 on the clock , the time to worry is when you cant hear them as they have tightened up ..clearances too low.. 👍
@@trebor4460 They tighten up ? i thought they wear out and loosen up a bit?...i do have pop pop sounds when starting up but it goes away or pop less once heated up to temperature..
@@fidelcatsro6948 yep they can tighten up as well they are only a basic nut and pin affair to adjust them and can quite easily tighten up as well as loosen to the point where the valve does not shut properly and then the seats of the valve burn out ..the piping is prob mixture a bit lean on start up and as motor gets hot the requirement is for a leaner mixture so less popping . 👍
@@trebor4460 thank you i just read up more of other articles on this..yes youre right they can tighten up as well and that is more serious than loosening up..eventual valve head seating can cause tightening to occur.
I have a suzuki gsf600 i replaced the clutch swich an the handlebars and the bike did stard and i tried to adjust the cable from the gears while the big was ruming and i had to stop the bike by emergency button after the bike wont start cam you give any advice .Thanks Tony
if it ran before you fitted the clutch stitch i would check that first, take the 2 terminals off the switch and link them temporarily together with a bit of wire or pin between the two to make a circuit and see if it starts.
I have a gsf600 '98 and want to adjust the clearances, does the 600 looks the same inside as 1200? Does bandits have shims?(i saw videos of other motors adjusting the clearances by adding other shims, why you do it this way?)
Will be the same method buddy but I would get a manual if I was you for the exhaust and inlet valve gaps as they might very well be different for the 600 ;)
To be honest the 1200 motor does rattle a bit as long as cam chain tensioner spring ain't going off it will be ok.. time start worrying is when it dont rattle as valve clearance has gone and then u can burn out valves 👍
No m8 not done a cam chain.. swopped the tensioner out mind. If you put an endless chain in you will have to split the caseings... big job, alternative is a chain with a split link in,

Helpful and informative video. I used it as refreshment before valve adj. Thank you !!!
Great video tks. Followed this one and your one on carb balancing when doing my bandit. All very easy when someone does a good job explaining it.
Very well explained. Thank you for your time and efforts to make a very helpful video.

Great vid. Gonna have a go on by bandit 600 now!
Hi Robert Good video pal very informative indeed. Will be looking at your other videos too.

Good video made it easy with no waffle or fancy introduction 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Excellent tutorial. Love getting my hands dirty but always been a bit of a wuss when it comes to valves. This video has made all clear.

best valve clearance video on the net!
is it necessary to drain oil before valve adjustment?
Thanks! This video just comes out as I wanted to check mine. Bonus.

Do the lock nuts need to be torque correctly? If not how tight do they need to be?

@@trebor4460 Were you still able to reuse the gaskets/seals? Did you have to apply anything on the gaskets/seals before placing the cover?

When you open up the crank case, did you need to drain the oil?
Nope some will drain out but not much x

Hi!
Did you removed the oil before??
Or, I have to remove the oil before??
Hi buddy not necessary to drop the oil but as the timing cover has to come off you will loose a bit but not much just check level when you are done .
Thnx for the quick answer!!!!!
And the seal by 1:47? Do i have to replace the seal?
Thanks for your answer!!!!!
@@zeqirkovaqi2122 if you lucky it will be undamaged and can be reused but to be honest for the price of a new one it's good practice to replace it 😉

Ive got a bandit 600s 2002, got a tappit noise could it need this valve clearence doin? Or somthin else
Always difficult to tell with perceived noise but if its tappity then o ly one way to find out, whip the rocker cover off n check the clearances 👍
