    That fifth pattern is EXACTLY what I was looking for & had no idea what it was called or what to look up. Thanks so much for the very easy to understand explanation, I'll be using this asap! I'm crocheting a purse to wear to a friend's summer wedding and it needs a little 🌟pizzazz🌟 so this will be perfect :^)

      So glad it was helpful! I don't know if "standing ruffles" is the real name for that type of border, I had the same dilemma of trying to figure out what it should be called haha Sounds like a fun project!

    While I can not understate how clear and concise this is, how perfect from my needs for a ruffled edge with artful holes...
    The sheer validation I feel when you wrap your string around the hook rather than gather it. I broke one of my hands some years back and the stretch to gather it became very uncomfortable very quickly. I feel so judged wrapping it instead, get all kinds of lectures on ruining my tension but its become such a mindless and subconcious action that stitches dont feel complete anymore without it.

    • @CraftersAutonomous
      @CraftersAutonomous  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm so glad to hear this tutorial was helpful, and I'm especially glad to hear you got a sense of validation about the way you crochet! Sometimes other crafters can be downright rude when people do things differently, but the way I see it is if it works it works! That's one of the things I love about crochet - as long as it works, we can do whatever option is best for each of us!
      Sure, some things have a precise definition. For instance, a single crochet means inserting the hook, pulling up a loop, and then pulling another loop through both the loops already on the hook. But as long as you follow those steps, I don't think it really matters how anyone goes about it. There's more common ways, and perhaps one method is objectively faster than another. But for me, my tension is terrible if I just catch the yarn with my hook! So for me, wrapping the yarn is the best option. Sounds like the same is true for you!
      I didn't realize I did my yarn overs differently until I started posting videos online. Sometimes people get snarky about it, but I remind myself I've got bigger problems in my life than a stranger on the internet lecturing me about my crochet preferences 😂 Thanks so much for watching!

    Particularly with adding the ruffled border to a baby afghan, should I change direction after I do the first single crochet row, and actually after the second row (2 SC then 1 SC) as well?

    • @CraftersAutonomous
      @CraftersAutonomous  ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally up to you! In the demonstration in the video, I didn't turn my work, but if you prefer the way it looks when you turn your work that's definitely an option.

  • @donnabt4960

    easy to understand! how are you holding yarn without sticking your pointer finger out?

    • @CraftersAutonomous
      @CraftersAutonomous  ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad you enjoyed these borders! As far as holding the yarn, I only learned within the last few years that I hold the yarn differently than most crocheters. 😄 When I was first learning to crochet, I really struggled with my tension. When I would hold my finger out, my tension was awful. So I subconsciously adapted by holding the yarn and "moving the yarn" instead of the hook for yarn overs and such. I've had some knitters tell me I hold my yarn like a knitter who doesn't knit continental; they call it "throwing the yarn". My very first video shows a breakdown of how I manage tension if you want to check it out! th-cam.com/video/OO1agXVAkfg/w-d-xo.html Thanks for watching.

    This is 11 mths old and I'm hoping you will see my comment as I need help. I've crotchet blanket in wave stitch, and as it has shells in it I would like to finish with ruffle shell border. I like your Triple ruffle but I would like to do 3 rows and I'm not too sure how. Please could you help me .

    • @CraftersAutonomous
      @CraftersAutonomous  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! I just played around with ways to work multiple rows of this border and here's what I came up with.
      The first option is to nestle the shell shapes together. So after completing the first round of the border, slip stitch to the middle chain space of the next shell. Then, *chain 1, treble around slip stitch of previous round* 4 times, chain 1, slip stitch to the middle chain space of the next shell* And repeat all the way around. So basically, work the slip stitch in the tops of the shells from the previous round, and work the shells in the slip stitch from the previous round. Then repeat for the 3rd round.
      The other option is to stack it so the shells sit right on top of each other. But we need to work an extra round between each round of the open lattice shell. After completing the first round of the border, chain 7, slip stitch to the middle chain of the next shell, *chain 3, treble around the next slip stitch from the previous row, chain 3, slip stitch to the middle chain of the next shell* and repeat around. Then once you get back to the beginning, slip stitch in the 4th chain of the initial 7 chains. Then, you can work a round of the open lattice shell. The slip stitches would go in the trebles, and the shell would work around the slip stitches. And then repeat those two rounds until your border was the thickness you wanted.
      Hope this helps!

    What do I have to do if I want to keep doing the single crochet ruffle? How can I do it?

    • @CraftersAutonomous
      @CraftersAutonomous  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, I'm not sure if I understand what you are asking! If you are wanting to make that border taller/wider by doing more rows, you would need to keep adding more stitches each row. You could try working 2 single crochet in every stitch, or you could do a repeat of working 2 single crochet in a stitch, then 1 sc, then 2 sc, then 1, etc. The more increases (working 2 sc in the same st) that you do, the more ruffle-y it will end up. Hope this helps, and if it doesn't answer your question let me know and I'll try to explain better!
