I make blankets every so often, and I come back to this video each time to remind myself how to do the scalloped edges. It's so easy to understand and follow, and it jogs my memory each time. Thank you for showing us! ❤
At 48, I've started crocheting..just started a month ago..I've made an afghan and I needed a cute border..you are awesome!! I learned this new technique literally in 10 minutes..thanks 😊
One of the best tutorials I’ve seen. I’ve been doing crochet since I was 11, I’m 24 now and never really was interested in borders until now. Perfectly explained and straight to the point!
I had to stop and thank you! I'm new at this & a lot of tutorials don't explain enough or act as though they are talking to experienced people. But you are very good at explaining everything. Patterns are so intimidating. This is absolutely awesome! Thank you!
I was going to scrap this border idea, until I saw your video. Thank you! My stitches weren't coming out exactly like the last video I watched, but I love that you showed me that they don't have to! Now I know what I'll be working on tomorrow!❤️
I've been crocheting for 30 years, and I'm making my first pair of very flared pants and I need a border at the bottom, I made this many times before but I always forget. This is an easy tutorial. Thank you, I'm excited to try this on the last row of my pant legs
Thank you. You iron out those confusing issues to help me get started. I like the different color on the boarder. I hadn't ordered my yarn in advanced allowing for the difference. Live and learn.
I'm 57 and in the U.K. Decided to turn catching Covid into a positive. Started to learn to crotchet whilst in bed. Having so much fun. Thankyou for this video. Love your ability to simplify it for us. Completely hooked now! Have gifted some crotchet hooks and wool to my friends. Big thank you again!
I'm so glad that a friend of mine, a long time crocheter, highly recommended watching your videos. she said you're her favorite :D I'm a beginner crocheter after a lifetime of knitting. I love being able to frog just pulling through the chains, zip zip and only having to "pick up" a single stitch! Thanks so much!
I'm scared to do this after I finish my first blanket. So far my blanket is looking cute. This tutorial is the only one that makes absolute sense to me so thank you thank you thank you. Everything from visual to the explanation was perfect
Using this edging for a very large shawl.72" wide with 43" deep. Just a simple double crochet in the back loop, for every row. The purpose of this shawl is warmth. My friend is delighted with it. Especially the edging. Than you for this detailed video.
I can’t follow crochet patterns to save my life, thank you so much for making a video that I can follow easily and understand. From the tone of your voice to you going back to show what you did. Thank you so much!
Many thanks,Ive been a knitter all my life and never learned crochet,I had just knitted a baby blanket and needed a nice weighty border, your instructions for this stitch were great and I now want to learn how to follow a crochet pattern, with your help of course!
Thank you! I’m in my 50’s and until now my brain just wouldn’t let me accept anything other than a basic crochet stitch, and definitely not the names of different stitches. Now it seems much easier. I think the reason I’m able to learn easier now is because I don’t have kids or work to distract me.
Thank you so much! I’m 85 years old and hadn’t crochet for years! Started a baby blanket for a great grandchild! Didn’t like it till I put the border on! Easy to follow your instructions and it made all the difference! Thank you again!💙🙏💙
I am adding this Crochet Shell Border on my Crochet Pull-Through Shawl. I made the shawl with grey yarn and I am adding the border with the same grey yarn!!! ~ Skye
I'm working on a tank top (all V stitches) consisting of two halves that I will sew together. But I decided I wanted a scalloped border at the bottom (and maybe around the neckline) in a contrasting color. Your video is just what I was looking for! Thanks for the very clear instructions!
Love this cute border! Thank you for using the thicker yarn and bright colors. Your are very easy to follow & love how you show us different ways to use this border for our projects!
Really useful to see how to fudge the odd number of stitches! I've watched a lot of instruction videos but what to do when your stitch numbers are unpredictable is great. As a beginner my sampler blanket is very uneven and it's so good to see it will still look nice with this shell border - thank you!
Thank you so much for using thicker yarn in light colors where we can actually see what you are doing. Some other vids use dark yarn and we can't see where the hook goes, etc.
Thank you for this tutorial, I'm a beginner and found it very helpful, not too quick which a LOT of others are, makes learning so much easier and enjoyable. 😊
I love your video! Firstly you speak and explain everything, and secondly you crochet at my speed. I look forward to watching more of your videos Tamara. Smile
I love this border and I like that you did this with a chunky yarn. I was afraid there may not be a good border for the blanket yarn I’m using but this worked perfectly!! Thank you for sharing!!
Thank you very much. I was just making a Tissue Box cover & I wanted to finish with scallop edges. I came across your video which was very helpful. Also your manicure is very lovely. So many times bloggers have chipped manicure which is very distracting 🤓
Beautiful! Can you just continue this for a wider border... can you build on it.. or would this be more of a finish after several "plain" rounds? (I hope this makes sense)
You could! I would make the second round of shells in the sc sts and sc in the center st of the first round of shells. You'll have to play with the corners a bit, but otherwise that's it!
Thank you for a clear and precise tutorial on crocheting. I've been knitting a blanket for a cople of years now for a double bed and would like to crochet around the entire edge, I can now - though that will probably take another year :-)
I did seven stitches and didint skip one. Thanks for this!! Oh and my scalped border is just tighter and more curled. I did light blue blanket and for the border gray (kinda elephant colors) For my baby cousin!
Oh my gracious! I just learned this edge a few hrs ago. I hadn't any idea how to make it fit the end of my scarf.. Common sense kicked in and I did almost exactly what you've just shown..however I got very flustered because it didn't come strings the corner as I thought it should. After an hr and a half and many many...MANY DIFFERENT combos to get it right, I jettisoned the whole thing for the night!!! I've nut been able to sleep thinking about what I was doing wrong and picked up device to see another edging recipe ;-) that might be easier to get a nice balanced design with. Low and behold..your video was just on top when I opened YT..Thank you Lord! And thank you for sharing. I'm using a Berants blanket(thick yarn). Still not sure scalloped edge will work but now I'm excited that I'll be able to sleep..LOL a lil bit anyway, as it's 3 am. Then I'll give it another go. The many ways I'd tried to configure never come together at the corner..at least in looking nice getting around the corner.having your hero under my hook(belt) giggle I'm very hopeful I'll pull it off..off to sleep a bit BUT again thank you for the details! B-)
My setup row of SC around my blanket is laying well - no ruffling or pulling. But when i started doing the shells, i see a slight ruffle. How can i have them lay flat but not too far apart?
Play with the number of stitches in between the shell and the sc sts, and with the number of stitches in the shell itself. It always takes some trial and error! :)
Hi! So this could work with any multiples? 2 minumum? Trying to decide what to do with a blanket that i have no idea how many stitches has in the borders lol
Hi! Could you tell me the name of the stitch you used for the pint square? I want to make a blanket but don't know what the name of that stitch is! Thank you!
Is it best to start the 1st scallop several stitches to the left, rather than at the corner, so that at the very end (where you join the last scallop to the first scallop) the last scallop will also go over the corner like the other corners? Or am I doing something wrong?
Thank you! Yes, for round projects you'll just want to *not* skip a stitch occasionally to help create the curve! For instance, let's say each round was previously increasing by 6 stitches. For this edging, pick 6 (approximately) equal points around the circle to *not* skip when you normally would have. This will put the shells/sc sts a bit closer together and create the curve. Does that make sense?
For a "perfect" setup it would be 4 - sc, skip, dcs, skip. You don't want 2 sc next to each other - unless you have a multiple of 5, in which case that would be a variation to make it work!
This is a lifesaver! Made a blanket for my granddaughter and felt it was "Blah", scalloped edges made it really cute!
I make blankets every so often, and I come back to this video each time to remind myself how to do the scalloped edges. It's so easy to understand and follow, and it jogs my memory each time. Thank you for showing us! ❤

That sounds so cool! Thank you! ♥
Thank you for going right to the tutorial. So much better than some others who seem to enjoy the sound of their own voice and talk non-stop!
This was perfectly paced and easy to follow. I get overwhelmed and anxious with other videos, but yours was perfect! Thank you

I'm making a cocoon for my baby granddaughter and I wanted a pretty edge. This is so lovely and simple. Thank you so much.
I was a little intimidated attempting this border for the first time but you made it clear as can be. Thanks so much! 🙂

*smoochies* You explained how to do a border so well . You have no idea how much I appreciate this .. a simple task can become frustrasting
Thank you for your really easy to follow instructions. I am now able to crochet the edge to my shawl correctly.
Very beautiful border for a blanket Ms. Tamara. God bless you.
Super clear & easy to follow instructions... thank you!
Great tutorial. I just use this as a border of a baby blanket and it’s beautiful. Thank you very much.
Thanks!
I like how u offered modifications and even showed it and because you use bulky yarn, it makes it so much more easier to follow and see.
This was very helpful I did find that for my blanket skipping two and doing 6 double made it sit more flat
Used this on a afghan for my granddaughter. It turned out beautifully.

Thank you so much for this clear, simple-to-follow tutorial!
Hi, how are you doing??
Tamara, thank you so much for this video! Because of you and this video I was finally able to grasp the shell stitch border.
Love this! It gives the solution for skipping stitches if necessary. Which I need and admire!
Merry Christmas Tamara! Thank you very much for your tutorial .
your hook is also a wand ! thank you for this great video...so helpful

very clear and easy with lovely results. Thank you, Tamara!
So simple. Love it.
Thanks for sharing how to make a scallop border 👍
Thankyou... I tried this and it came out beautifully.. love from India 😘
Muy bonito como se llama la lana que usa?
This looks so effective, can I ask what stitch technique you used for the square?
Thank you, I believe that's just a few rows of single crochet! :)

Thank you Tamara for your simple and clear instructions. I’m scalloping away! 😄
How do you do a second row of scalloped border?
For the 2nd row, you would sc in the center st of the shell, and work the shell in the sc.
Great and simple video! Thank you!!
I wish I knew how to finish it. I will figure it out. Thanks!
My setup row of SC around my blanket is laying well - no ruffling or pulling. But when i started doing the shells, i see a slight ruffle. How can i have them lay flat but not too far apart?

Hi! So this could work with any multiples? 2 minumum? Trying to decide what to do with a blanket that i have no idea how many stitches has in the borders lol
I would try a couple different ones and see what you think looks best - and then figure out how to "fudge" it as you get close to the corner!
Great tutorial! Easy to follow 👍
Hi! Could you tell me the name of the stitch you used for the pint square? I want to make a blanket but don't know what the name of that stitch is! Thank you!
I believe it was hdc - half double crochet. :)
Absolutely love this tutorial! So helpful! Thank you so much!
Stunning hook!💜
Suppose i wanted to make more than one row how woukd i do it😊
For that, check out this video: th-cam.com/video/3Cta6hVNom4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=u-Xop1BwHPLf8g5p :D

If that's the look you like, then yes! :) And it gives you a little room to fudge it if needed!
@@mooglyblog Thank you so much!!
Hello, I love this pattern! Does this pattern work on circular projects as well?
@@mooglyblog Yes, thank you😊
Does this mean my chain has to be a multiple of 5? (2 skips, 2 sc, 1 for the scallop double crochets)
For a "perfect" setup it would be 4 - sc, skip, dcs, skip. You don't want 2 sc next to each other - unless you have a multiple of 5, in which case that would be a variation to make it work!
Thank you for using thicker yarn you are good teacher
Is there a way I can do the first part in a more secure way? I don’t like how the tail can just slip in and out not tight
You can always pause in your stitching and weave in your first end, as long as you're sure you aren't going to want to undo it!
.... how do you do it for the sides?????
Perfect way to explain this, thank you!
Hi, thank you for the pattern ❤❤
thank you so much it was so easy to understand!!💗
