YI4k 2 (YI4k+) vs Sony FDRX3000 testing in the mean streets of Vegas! (XSR900/CBR1000RR)

  • Here's a quick 4k lowlight / daytime comparison between the 2 cameras from a vlogger's perspective. Footage shot on the Vegas Strip and Summerlin's Tivoli shopping center.
    Later I'll post up a 1080p 60fps comparison as well and maybe another one where I mess with the settings.
    All the settings were set to auto.

    I think it is only a very slight difference to recognize, especially in the stabilization.
    The recordings of the YI 4k are almost as good as the Sony. I film with the YI 4k +, in the next days comes the Sony, since I can then compare myself. I am very excited about my results.
    Sony is unfortunately missing some manual settings, such as Shutter, ISO, and s.o. And thus I missing time Lapse.
    A big disadvantage, however, is the very viscous video processing with the clips of the YI 4k (mp4). The clips of the Sony (XAVC S) are much easier to play.

      true but its like double the price .. and this is my action cam .. and they always end up breaking , or getting lost ... if i was only vlogging with it or safely keeping it at home or in my hands at all times , i would get the sony for sure ... but id rather vlog with like a better Vlogging Cam thats cost more .

    Nice bike, seems like the Sony has better contrast and IS in low light, during the day the Sony has better color reproduction. Thanks for the upload.

      But it's evergreen General human units (USD), of which Sony should be in
      2 times more than 4k+ and that's without version Sony screen!

    • @xXadambXx
      @xXadambXx 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      imo on it shoud me in this same price. no 4k/60, no any 2.7k; bad shape for chestcam, chincam; we have to buy special gimbal for sony shape, drons; fast overheat; only god shape for side of helmet bike etc. Sony dont make special gimbal (like go pro make), yi will be, yi made carbon dron for yi cams.

    • @halohalos
      @halohalos  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can always record in 4k and output to 2.7k if needed. And you wouldn't need a gimbal with the Sony. If you insist on the gimbal, they do make one for Sony shaped cameras (I have one for my older Sony as200v)
      And yes, I don't recommend wearing the Sony as a chest cam or chin cam, but I also wouldn't wear gopro type shapes on the side of the helmet or on top of the helmet, the sony would be better aerodynamically speaking (slimmer front profile). If using the gopro, the chin mount would be best.
      I'm excited for that Yi drone Erida as well, but they need to put a better camera on there like the phantom4pro (1" sensor from rdx100). They also need to work on the range, DJI has 3+ miles while the ERida and gopro barely can hit 1 mile :(

    • @halohalos
      @halohalos  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I doubt the Erida will be much cheaper than any of DJI's offerings, but it would be nice if it is! Right now I would say the king of consumer drones is the phantom4pro. 4k60fps, 1" sensor, plus 3+ mile range. What I like about Erida is they said it can go up to 75mph!! Hopefully they upgrade the camera to a larger sensor like the p4p. That camera would be awesome on an action cam!!

  • @gaboaaa23

    on 1:30 the night performance of the yi is much better! Less noise and artefacts. The 60 fps kills any other cam out there right now. Not to mention the price. Thank you for this nice comparison.

    • @halohalos
      @halohalos  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's really hard to tell because of hte lack of OIS on the YI. With so much movement, the YI blurs out a lil. I should do a test where the cameras aren't moving to be able to tell for sure. But yes indeed, 60fps is beautiful! With a gimbal, it would be unstoppable! Stay tuned on future vids.. I'm planning on doing a night vid with no movements, and 60fps at 4k just for the yi.. Then another test with 1080p at 60fps. Thansk for watching. :)

    OIS trumps EIS all day, every day. I think the grid-like structure combined with the low light etc. throws the Yi 4k+ off. There is a lot of computation going on with EIS.
    The Sony really shines here, but I still love my Yi 4k+ with a gimbal :-).
    It's unbelivebal how far those cameras have come, when i look at low light footage from my GoPro Hero 2.... ouch!
    I thinks both EIS and OIS are more suited for fast movement, not for handheld panning-shots like at the end of the video.
    Great video, very informative and unbiased! Rare to find!

    Don't think there is a better place to test low light than the Vegas strip. Does the Yi4k+ have the 60fps 4k? Just booked 5 days holiday in Vegas for October, can not wait.

      Yi 4K+ does have 4K at 60fps, but you cannot use EIS at 4K 60fps. It's only available in the settings for 4K 30fps or lower resolution

    Really depends on what you wanna do with your camera. I was gonna go for the FDR, but in reality most of what I'll do is film myself doing kungfu. So if the camera is still on a tripod, the yi 4k+ is just better with 4k60.

      I think the Sony might edge out the YI on a lot of scenarios due to the OIS. But if you have a gimbal, I think the YI wins with it's buttery smooth 60fps at 4k. Walang tatalo diyan! :)

    Very impressive that Yi 4K+ EIS holds up very well to Sony's OIS in daylight, especially because comparing EIS to OIS isn't an apples to apples comparison. Which camera will you use for your daylight bike cam? Have you decided?

    • @halohalos
      @halohalos  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll probably stick with the Sony, I prefer the wider angle of view. But as you can see, OIS isn't perfect either, or maybe I just need to hold the camera a lil better when i'm walking haha

    • @keytiger7
      @keytiger7 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      idrinkforbadges I have a Sony x3000 if you put it on a monpod and walk softly it will perform 3 times better, even if you use a 3 axis gimbal you will have to walk the same way ,to get the best results

    • @halohalos

  • @harfang85
    @harfang85 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    What about the microphone? I have the first Yi camera and everything is ok but the micro... (I'm on a Gsxr 750)
    I'm trying to find a new camera with a better microphone (won't find any I think) or get a sound recorder to put on the bike (Any idea about a good sound recorder tho? :o)
    Nice video ;)
    So sad the Sony is so expensive in Europe. I would have bought one if it was same as US...

    • @halohalos
      @halohalos  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the mic's are fine for everyday recording but if you attach it to a motorcycle or vehicle, then you're definitely going to need an external mic. The Sony has the typical headphone mic jack on the back, the Yi on the other hand, looks to be the same as the gopro (I haven't verified or confirmed if this is for the mic though).

  • @araiq
    @araiq 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Looks like Yi 4k+ lost the battle in all aspects. The stabilization is really bad - it shakes too much. And the colors are somewhat not that alive ...
    Great comparison btw.

  • @apassionfortangling3671
    @apassionfortangling3671 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Sony is the better camera but it is twice the price and twice the size with a viewing screen that has to be attached separately?

    • @halohalos
      @halohalos  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, if you need to have the screen, it is definitely more expensive. But if you can do without it, the OIS is a killer feature and a bargain IMO for $350. If given the choice of having a screen vs having OIS, i will choose OIS all day. The screen is handy though when you're framing shots, but you can do the same by just downloading the sony app to your phone. It's not the most convenient, but i do this just once and I'm usually set.

      At least the Yi works every time and doesn't crash like the Hero5 used to.

  • @qtben17
    @qtben17 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not sure if they use the same sensor but video quality is identical. I find that if i put yi's sharpness to low, i get better quality. Maybe due to less software processing.. fdr's boss wins by all means but im substituting a gimbal for that lol

    • @halohalos
      @halohalos  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Back when I tested the original Yi 4k, I could easily tell which one was the Yi. Not so much with the Yi+. Interesting idea on the sharpness, I may have to try that one out. -Cheers!

    • @art4style
      @art4style 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats why I'm lil worried you have switched some of tests by accident, coz YI is the one with strong red overlay film (wrong WB), not Sony... seen also some other YT vids and YI is always "the red one" :)

    • @halohalos
      @halohalos  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess I should've clarified, it's hard to tell when looking at the final video, but during editing, their file naming convention and how I organize my edits, it makes it super easy to tell.. When I do comparison vids, I usually place the Sony on the 2nd row so I know exactly where it is. But let me know though which section you think I may have mixed things up, and I can double check the saved project just to be sure. :thumbsup:

  • @Thomas-fk6ep
    @Thomas-fk6ep 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can you do a quality test? Yi 4k+ 4k/60fps or 4000x3008 resolution versus FDR-x3000's highest 4k resolutions? I'm wondering how the quality of these differ. I bought the Yi and was impressed by the quality. Like the other guy in this comment section, I'm aiming to invest in a gimbal to remove the shakiness so stabilization is of little priority to me.

    • @halohalos
      @halohalos  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure if combining 2 videos with different frame rates would be a fair comparison.. Depending on what I export the final video to (either 30fps or 60fps), the video not having that same frame rate may not have the best quality. Either some frames would be dropped, or frames would be added. I'm planning on doing a solo video though with 4k and 60fps.. And then another one where both cameras are doing 1080p 60fps.
      But either way, from what I'm seeing, you can't go wrong with the Yi 4k+. I really cant tell the difference in regards to video quality. There will be times where I would think the SOny looks better, then there are times where I thought the YI looks better.

    • @Thomas-fk6ep
      @Thomas-fk6ep 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    yi 4k+ did a good job keeping up with sony for its price, but would you pay 200 more for some better IS?
    (in holland sony costs 529 euro and yi 4k roughly 300 from amazone)

    • @halohalos
      @halohalos  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow big difference in Price! And you have to factor in that the YI also has 4k60fps while Sony and GOPRO do not. LUckily though here in the US, the price difference is not that big. I got my Sony for $348, and I got the Yi for $340. Both great cameras either way.
