Jaguar XKR 5.0 Supercharged - A better value used GT car than an Aston Martin? - Beards n Cars

  • When it comes to the Jag XK, the pretty clear choice for sheer performance for the money is the 5.0 XKR. Over 500 horsepower and enough performance to make an Aston more than sweat in a straight line, combined with the great long distance appeal and smooth but playful cornering ability of all XK's.
    So with that in mind, let's take to the road in an XKR 5.0 and see how this beast stacks up against the other XK's which I've driven here in Beards 'n Cars...

    You perfectly explained one of the main reasons I picked a later-model 5.0 XKR: It is the most updated version and the last of the line. It's a special car and I like that about it. You make some great points about the earlier versions though.

    I have had the XJRs the XFrs and the Xkrs in the 4.2 and the 5.0. I currently have a 2012 Xkr convertible and have loved them all. My current XKr is super fast and powerful while remaining very elegant and luxurious. I love the British cars. My first jag was a 1973 XKE v12 roadsters terrible car but I loved it. My first Bentley was a 1991 turbo R, I now have a 2014 GTC great cars. I find the British automobiles very elegant and the HP is always more than adequate. 😊

    I have a nice blue 5.0 XK in Bangkok. I love it dearly. One thing bugging me much is the “check pedestrian system” warning light showing frequently when getting into the traffic jam in Bangkok. But overall I am always enjoy driving my XK.

    There’s something wrong with that XKR. I have a 2012 version and I get 22mpg around town and 31mpg on a run.

      Depends how you drive it 😂 being much more spirited in a review won’t help

      I own a 2014 and get nowhere near 31mpg , even on a decent run. Best around 20-23mpg. How have you worked out the 31mpg ?

    • @circulation69
      @circulation69 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. I have a 2010 60 plate xkr and get 28 - 30 mpg on a run.

    • @boyblunder8889
      @boyblunder8889 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@circulation69 never seen MPG listed as that high anywhere.. what info is giving you that data ?

    • @circulation69
      @circulation69 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@boyblunder8889 on a recent run from Dorset to Norfolk on a Sunday evening with minimal traffic and not going "much" above 70, the trip MPG was 29.6 and that very much agreed with what it cost to re-fill the tank. As I said, I have a 60 plate, completely factory standard and it currently has 57,000 miles on the clock. I used to have a 2003 4.2 XKR and I never got that above 23MPG. Now I'm fully aware that the official figures from Jaguar themselves are 16/24 mpg but on a long run (if you can resist the temptation of over using your right foot) you can get 30mpg out of those things.
