  • It's Audi vs BMW in our car comparison today. I'll be showing why Audi cars end up cheaper than most BMW cars and SUVs. There are many reasons, and this becomes a lot like a BMW vs Audi comparison review, but you can use this as an Audi review or a BMW review.

I purchased a 2014 audi A6 in 2016/2017 paid $22k for a $50k car. It had 53k miles. It now has 160k miles. I only changed the oil and had to replace two motor mounts , do a break job once at 80k miles. I still drive it 6 years later. It is a great car!

Sweet, I like seeing that many miles without any trouble, makes me more confident in purchasing an Audi myself. Currently looking at 32,000 mile Audi A3, if I could get some good use out of it with no issues (or very few) like you have managed, I'd be beyond satisfied. I hope your car continues to treat you well, and that you get a good value when trading it in! It should still be worth a decent bit even with the high mileage, every thing has went up in price recently, especially since your purchase date 2016/2017.

@@whatta7793 i own an A4 B7 Audi. its a 2005.7 model. i bought it with 268k km in the gauge. the car had a turbo issue so far, which i repaired at a service. i also pre-repaired the oil pump(more like a small hexagon change to one with 2 numbers bigger in diameter). the car rolls ,rides smooth and is good for "off-roading" since even the base suspension is a potent one. so far ive spent on it in a 2-3 year period like 1k euros with maintaince and the above mentioned repairs. remember. if you take care of them they will last a life!

@@lonewolf1300 wow, sounds like they're a little more reliable than I was expecting. I've yet to hear any "disaster stories" about them, just seems like regular maintenance, which seems to cost a little more than most vehicles, but still reasonable and no catastrophic failures.
For the 2.0T in the GTI and A3, the biggest maintenance seems to be $2-3k around 70k miles for timing chain and tensioner, and then $2-3k for a turbo around 110-120k miles. Other than that, seems like they're just regular maintenance like oil changes.
That's just what I've read about the 2.0T since that's the motor in the model I'm looking at (Audi A3). Sounds like you've had a pretty good relationship with your A4, thanks for the info!

I’m not interested in splitting hairs, but I am interested in good value. I bought a 4yo BMW 128i Coupe stripper (only 3 options, 18” wheels, leather and metallic, and no iDrive) for $22K, in mint condition with 11K. I got her from an older couple (car enthusiasts) in San Diego (no rust). She has a MT. I’ve driven her 50K in 5 years, and I have replaced the Continentals once, the ignition coils once, one coil once, and the oil filler gasket. At 60K, that’s everything, plus an enhanced 60K service. This particular model, and this motor in particular (it being used in many BMWs, esp. 328i and 528i) is noted for being virtually trouble-free. I paid what a well equipped new Corolla would cost, for a much sportier, similar quality (but more refined, high-strung and complicated) BMW. So far I have no regrets! The BMW is, I believe, much more fun to drive than the Corolla (or much else at this price point) would ever be, and the car is stunningly beautiful.

Other than the 992 and current 718 products, Audi and Porsche shares their parts across the board of selections. Please stop the nonsense. Turning into the “Rev up your engine” show are we? The Macan is based on the older gen Q5 platform. The Cayenne and the Q7 share the same platform. The 4.0 liter, 3.0 liter, 2.9 and 2.0 liter turbo engines are shared with Porsche. VW doesn’t have 3.0, 4.0 or 2.9 engines in there catalog. Old talking points. I own and BMW and a Audi now . My BMW doesn’t have anywhere the quality compared to my Audi. The door sounds when I close them both let’s me know who has the quality. I’m done with this.

    Dear Presenter,
We situated in Asia . Namely Singapore . Although Audi is generally selling slightly cheaper to bmw’s model to model , but Audi spare parts are crazily high in this country .
Eg: ATF oil in a Q7 3.0 TDI , 8 speed box costs SGD 72 / litre vs a Bmw M6 DCT gear box oil of SGD of 33/litre . The former one is an Audi base model and the later one Is Bmw top of range model . Can you see that ? Absurd!
Audi comes from VAG Group . Their part productions should enjoy economic of scale n sell cheaper . On the contrary , they dun sell cheap in Asia .

Hey Mark, thanks for the fantastic content as usual. I've been considering buying a pre-owned 3 series, C class, or the A4. However, I came across two of your videos that had contradicting statements about maintenance costs regarding the Audi vs. BMW. In one of the newer videos, you mentioned that Audis cost around $650-700 per year, while BMWs cost an average of $1,000 USD. But in the second video, you stated that Audis are 12-15% more expensive to maintain. So, I was wondering if you could clarify which one is correct?
Also, I have a side question - are the BMW F series more reliable than the G series?

What bothers me is how shallow a lot of car rankings are. They take a car out for a short spin or for a few days and if the boxes check off that’s it. I am REALLY glad I got my SQ5. I got $10k off MSRP a couple weeks ago on a 2023 Prestige with towing package (which was a must) and yeah, I paid stuff I did not need. I did get the air suspension with the sport differential. People complain about the “light” steering of an Audi but all I did was use the interface to customize and voila, I can now drive with a softer suspension setting, but with a “dynamic” steering set up. People talk about the GV70 as having a better interior than the Audi. But, just like the M40i, I found the 3.5 Genesis as having a much more “brutish” ride. I did not like the BMW interior at all. If it got to the point where Genesis was a true stand alone in my area, I might consider the 2.5 Genesis which has enough power to satisfy. I have not heard great things about customer service with these folks (e.g. you often can’t get a loaner from them, you are treated like you are buying a cheap Hyundai, etc). I have also seen examples of its wheels (and I do not like those weird, pebbly looking rims) peeling off the finish and chrome trim that looks tarnished after a short period of time. No car is perfect and the SQ5 is not. But, to me it is the best combination of fun, fast and being a good daily driver type of car. I plan to treat it well and hopefully, I can get my expected 75k miles out of it without major issues (meaning, if I go past the 50k warranty). I had 57k on my old Q5 and it had no problems. I have a personal grudge against Mercedes and view those cars as money pits so I am done with that brand. Lexus does NOT make drivers cars across most of their lineup (and specifically SUV’s), Acura is so-so in my book. I would be really interested if Mazda took it up a notch and created a luxury brand spin off which I know will never happen. If I had to choose between the basic Japanese brands, I would really look at a Mazda.

My loaded up prestige 2023 SQ5 listed at 76,000 US. It was an end of year deal (November 2023) so I got it for about $65k. Then of course, the dealer added on some bullshit stuff but overall,I got a decent deal. I have the real exhaust tips. I drove M40i and it felt a bit “bulkier.” Plus, I don’t like BMW drivers as a rule so it would be hypocritical for me to own. If I wanted to throw bumper stickers on my car one would be “BMW makes great cars, but I’m not a big enough jerk to drive one.” My other sticker would say “Visualize Using Your Turn Signal”

Coming from a 7 years experience with 3 series (F30)and 5 series (G30) i have to say Audi makes much better and more advanced/futuristic looking interior design. BMW tries a lot but always feels a little bit outdated on the interior. There also many extras that are very expensive when buying a BMW while they are very cheap on Audi, VW, Seat/Cupra. I now drive an Audi Q3 and it feels light years ahead the old BMWs i owned. You get SO MUCH MORE technology for your money by Audi than on BMW. My car lacks an rear parking camera but even here in Germany it was dead cheap to retrofit the original camera into the car. I payed 370€ for the cam and the installation. If it was a BMW i would pay 290€ for just one hour of work and 999€ for the hardware ....
