    "Lakeside Park" is probably the most beautiful song I've ever heard. Nostalgic, sweet, with a carefree summer vibe. It's like aural wine.

    The front cover of Fly By Night was done by Eraldo Carugati, who later did the paintings for the cover of the four Kiss solo albums in 1978.

    It's actually Hugh Syme (pronounced "sīm"). That's how Alex Lifeson pronounced. It during the episode of Classic Albums that chronicled both 2112 and Moving Pictures.

    The McKenzie bros. were hilarious for a second! Something you don't think of until you are reminded. That is great they got Geddy to sing for them. I had forgotten. Canada is probably underrated, but I wouldn't know because I have never been there.

    They've also appeared on a Kim Mitchell (Max Webster) & Jeff Berlin album.

    • @GoogleUser-xw1wz
      @GoogleUser-xw1wz 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      misterfunnybones Neil alone appeared on Berlin's Champion album. Jeff did dedicate the song All The Greats to all three Rush members on the subsequent Pump It! album. Neil played some percussion on the Rheostatics album Whale Music. Alex has played on songs by I Mother Earth and Porcupine Tree. Geddy appeared on the debut of Rocket Science, his nephew Rob Higgins' band at that time. These are just off the top of my head. They have done more individual guest appearances. AFAIK, Max Webster's Battlescar was the only one the whole band played on. I could be wrong...

    In Sep. '74, I went to Seattle Paramount to see this crazy new band called KISS.
    Opening band ?........ Rush !!!
    Then in Oct. '76 Rush played the tiny Bicentennial Pavilion in Tacoma (just a floor with a roof). Met them at a very small record store (Music Menu in Lakewood)... damn nice guys ! Laughing and joking... and they stayed for well over an hour. Long past meeting the only 50 or so people that showed up.
    And then ???.... well... many shows at Seattle Coliseum, and Tacoma Dome, and White River and...
    July 19th in Seattle this year !!! Gotta be close to my 20th time ? I dunno.
    Also... narrator mentioned "reggae" in a song. The middle part of "Spirit Of Radio" (where they twist a few lyrics from Simon and Garfunkel), is pure reggae.

    • @AnubisXII
      @AnubisXII 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tacoma, I would give your right arm to have seen one of the Kiss-Rush shows. That must have been quite a sight. I haven't missed a Rush show since 1984 and each time they got better and better. But I couldn't imagine seeing them in a small club when they were trying to make a name for themselves.
      Speaking of Spirit of Radio... Did you know that all those weird staggers and time signature changes were aimed to replicate the sound of surfing channels?

    Hate to brag but I've been listening to Rush since 1976. The people who made this video ought to know there are a ton of more interesting things about this mammoth sounding power trio than the few tidbits put into this vid.

    • @gravydavy4188
      @gravydavy4188 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ed Young Interesting Titbit, it's a little morsel a Tit would eat, a Tit being a type of bird, not Burd which is of course totty (not Titty) if you catch my drift. I assume you're one of our Cousins from across the pond, don't be frightened of saying Titbits, it's just a word and it won't hurt anyone. 😉 on a different note, my brother gave me a B.O.C Album and Fly By Night for Xmas 1983 when I was 16, he wasn't interested in rock music and they weren't very big over hear in England He sadly died a few months later, I have often wondered why I got those albums but I guess I'll never know now. I'm glad I did though. BTW Don't get offended by my comment I thought I would just have s laugh and write some drivel.

    • @Scorchinscotty
      @Scorchinscotty 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @jim jam A tuque (I just looked up the spelling!) is the Canadian word for beanie!
      If you’ve never seen it, look for the TV show SCTV. That’s where Bob and Doug came from, not to mention the big breaks for John Candy, Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, Andrea Martin, Martin Short, some others. Many Saturday Night Live alumni, came through that show.

    John Rutsey was not at all a bad drummer - not Peart, of course, but good for the style of the first album.
    I was a huge fan until "Grace Under Pressure;" when they started sounding more like U2 or Tears For Fears. I hated the syndrums Peart used.
    Not all of them are from Toronto. Alex Lifeson is from Fernie, BC, Neil Peart is from the area of St. Catharines, Ontario. Only Geddy Lee is from the Toronto area (Willowdale, Ontario, north of a now-closed Royal Canadian Air Force base, Downsview).

    • @VIKES931

      He had health issues that made it difficult for him to tour. They also had creative differences, with John wanting to play more traditional rock and Geddy and Alex wanting to play more experimental prog music.

      Fully agree nothing they did after moving pictures was nearly as good! I asked them about why they did not do a follow up to 2112! A Farewell to Kings had Hemispheres, which sort of followed up! I saw them in their prime on the Permanent Waves Tour in 81 which never played their home town Toronto! Had to go to Buffalo, NY with Max Webster opening to see them!

    • @jimjam1719
      @jimjam1719 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ya, some of my friends growing up would tease me about his singing, sounded like a girl, make fun of me for being a hardcore rush fan, they use to also tease me about the song "spirit of radio", the part where geddy would say "and echoes with the sound of salesman, of salesman, ooooffffff SALESMAN"!! they would laugh and yell SALESMAN or ad lib "SPACEMAN" in it's place. they would laugh and make fun so much, i just grinned and bared it. i feel geddy has an authentic voice that is very recognizable when you hear it. no one else sounds like him. in order to be recognizable and authentic, you can't sound like anyone else in the industry. i like geddy's voice based on those reasons. to each his own.
