They brought Wolfenstein to the present with Wolfenstein The New Order, they brought Doom to the present with this game...now we need a new Quake game in the same style!
I love how, just like us, doom guy doesn't really give a shit about the story. Like how Yahtzee put it: "DOOM opens with the protagonist having to listen to a voice on a computer screen, until 5 seconds into the speech our hero smashes the monitor like a confused gorilla, then starts shooting zombies and never stops."
If you delve into it, the story is quite good actually. Here's an example: Blinded by his hatred for the demons and all of Hell, the DooM Slayer was lured into a temple by Hell Priests who then collapsed the temple on him. This is how he was sealed in a sarcophagus for at least a thousand years. The UAC and Samuel Hayden discovered the sarcophagus in an expedition into Hell, and transported it back to Mars, noting that the demons guarding the sarcophagus fought with a ferocity previously unobserved. Hell desperately sought to keep the one who could not be tainted by it locked away for eternity. The demons knew that if he awoke, he would mercilessly ravage the desolate plains once again.
That's what I have been saying! The game and its story unfolds before you as you collect the secrets and read the various data logs. The game gives an interesting and compelling story very deceptively. The game invites you to put the pieces together as you unlock the mystery surrounding everything like Bioshock. It's actually a more effective way of telling the story because it gives everything a mythical quality and it's amazing. Cannot wait for Doom: Eternal!!!

I remember loving the wepon upgrade system of Dead Space 1 n 2 and then some asshole (cutaway to a picture of some dick sitting on a toilet with a big smile on his face) decided to change the upgrade system in Dead Space 3 to this complicated system that frustrated the hell out of me and cause me to die more times than I could count cause I couldn't upgrade properly...so yes all games should have simple upgrading like DOOM.
I came for the story... and I wasn't disappointed. While not Shakespeare by any stretch I felt that it was highly affective at making me interested about the characters. The ansroid character had me nerdgasming from the start even though his precise role is... pretty freakin telegraphed. Was it the most in-depth range of emotions? nah. Did I feel like a bad-ass and giddy when I realized that I was the "doomslayer"? Yes. I felt like the story wasn't bad it was just not indulgent and never got in the way. I actually feel they really made a rich and interesting world. Just... just being nitpicky.
the story is there if you want it though, which is nice. it is a doom game, so i do appreciate putting it in there so you can go to when you want to. nothing pisses me off more about modern games than buying a game and having to sit through what seems like hours of story before the game actually begins.
Thomas Jenkins I agree, they made the story sort of optional with the whole codex system, but you didn’t have to sit through wave after wave of cutscenes. I loved that you started the game and jumped right in

You are correct. I haven't played it yet. But you misunderstand me. I wasn't inferring that it doesn't DESERVE the Awesometacular; just that I was surprised the developers actually did a good job. Other attempts to recreate classic games from that era have often been mediocre to pretty terrible.

DNF was not nearly as bad as critics made it out to be. Ending a boss fight by beating him in the balls, the mini Duke section in the Duke Burger kitchen, one liners such as "keycard? I don't need no keycard" it's all good for a genuine giggle. Even the fetch quest in the strip club is hilariously stupid but in a Duke game it worked. It has old west levels, it has good lunar levels in the DLC the doctor who cloned me. I for one am not dissatisfied with the Duke Nukem we got in 2011. But that's just me.......
They did make another Duke nukem game. It's called bullet storm Duke nukem edition on Switch. His No holds bar 90s banter and crazy gunplay are perfect 😂😂😂

Would have helped if the higher ups hadn't gutted the actual plot lines they were building for the Suicide Squad in Arrow (because of the movie), and therefore left Arrow with scraps and shit to throw together for a story line. (seriously, if you just watched the first two seasons again, you can see all the time and effort they put into building the characters and plot lines for SS and then it all vanishes for the most part (even killing off multiple of their characters tied to it over the next season just to put the nail in the coffin.) It's really sad because Arrow had so much more potential than it was ever allowed to achieve in these last few seasons.
Watching these makes me wish you had a second channel so you could do more game reviews, but the issue is that means less movie reviews an we can not have that :)...... how far are we with cloning again? Ty for the channel, your time an passion Jeremy.
I loved it so much that halfway thru the game (the return from hell) I stopped, started a new game and upped the difficulty to UV I was having so much fun I didn't want it to end
Good review, as always. One thing I really liked about the upgrade system was how it felt like a progression system. Anyone who played the original Doom knows that the shotgun tears through enemies like paper, but in the first level of this game, the Imps take 2-3 hits to down (which had me really worried at first, wondering how hard, say, the Barons would be). However, once you start upgrading your favorite guns, you can take down the later enemies pretty easily. Now THAT makes you feel like a badass by the end, which is how every game like this should feel. I SO hope Id turns this into a new series of games like with Wolfenstein.
I got about half way through the original Doom before getting bored. Didn't bother with Doom 2. Finished Doom 3, but wasn't too invigorating. Bought Doom 4 and I grew a full chest of hair.
This is the best FPS in a long time. No bs, just fast past action, solid mechanics and game play. I hate how FPS's have evolved to, but this brings it back to the core.
id software actually kicked Certain Affinity to the curb (the company they outsourced multiplayer to) there's a huge free multiplayer update coming soon with modes actually created by them instead of Certain Affinity
Is it me or does it get really slow at times? I was really looking forward to fast gameplay in multiplayer like the campaign but my matches are always slow.

Dooms story invested me more than other games such as uncharted or the witcher 3 mainly because no stupid cut scenes or mechanics... don't get me wrong I love both those games but I prefer doom because its not trying to act like a movie

I consider doom and doom 2 the same. Same with plutonia, tnt and the million and one other wads out their. they are all just levels, the engine itself is DOOM.
I bought it through Steam. I'm on the second or third level. It keeps crashing when it is finished loading either a level or from a save. The lack of quick save bothers me. It's a very fun game when I can keep it working though. I can't wait to see the later levels.

+LatinoBadass nah you really shouldnt feel bad. Since a) scorpio doesnt come out till nov-dec 2017 and b) they specifically said noone gets left behind. All will be compatible with each other. Think of it like this: the original xbox 360 didnt even have an hdmi port when it came out. So it would only be a matter of time till the release an upgrade and they did. There are like 3-4 variants of the 360 and while the first couple were inferior, all games and most applications were still compatible

I was playing Doom with Project Brutality mod, and did not know this game was coming out (I was focusing on school, working full-time and have a wife). Bought it on release day (it has been years since I have done that), played it during my entire break and I still want to play more just like when I was a kid playing the originals.
Love the new doom, great review Jeremy. They better have a single player DLC to accompany that multiplayer DLC they just announced before a sequel to this game.
I don't hate angry Joe but I can't like the guy either. His reviews are way longer than necessary. His whole angry review angle gets old fast. And when he also does movie reviews it's the dumbest thing ever. I think it was a tie between sony and Microsoft (i'm a PlayStation fan): *PlayStation* Pos: most of the games were exclusives and looked great, Crash is back, very little speech Neg; only one exclusive is coming this year, crash is just remastered version and isn't exclusive, vr games look more like demos. *X Box* Pos: excellent lineup for this year and next, good indies, X Box One S Neg: a long speech after every game, everything goes to Windows 10, Project Scorpio.
Funny that you bring up the Twisted Metal trophies on PS3. I tried to get the platinum for it years ago, only to find out some of the trophies are glitched.

+LatinoBadass nah you really shouldnt feel bad. Since a) scorpio doesnt come out till nov-dec 2017 and b) they specifically said noone gets left behind. All will be compatible with each other.
Think of it like this: the original xbox 360 didnt even have an hdmi port when it came out. So it would only be a matter of time till the release an upgrade and they did. There are like 3-4 variants of the 360 and while the first couple were inferior, all games and most applications were still compatible
+Paul C It's also really more for people who have and are willing to spend the money on it. And it gives people who want to buy a current gen Xbox options. They'll have the slim as their "budget" option or they can wait for the Scorpio.

I was playing Doom with Project Brutality mod, and did not know this game was coming out (I was focusing on school, working full-time and have a wife). Bought it on release day (it has been years since I have done that), played it during my entire break and I still want to play more just like when I was a kid playing the originals.

I don't hate angry Joe but I can't like the guy either. His reviews are way longer than necessary. His whole angry review angle gets old fast. And when he also does movie reviews it's the dumbest thing ever. It's just him and his two out of shape friends desperately trying to remember what went on in the movie and and briefly only Joe will say something about it and the other two guys just nod and agree with him. It's like watching stupid stoners criticise last night's party but are only working with the few moments when they were conscious during the whole thing. Pos: most of the games were exclusives and looked great, Crash is back, very little speech
Neg; only one exclusive is coming this year, crash is just remastered version and isn't exclusive, vr games look more like demos.
*X Box*
Pos: excellent lineup for this year and next, good indies, X Box One S
Neg: a long speech after every game, everything goes to Windows 10, Project Scorpio.

Funny that you bring up the Twisted Metal trophies on PS3. I tried to get the platinum for it years ago, only to find out some of the trophies are glitched.
My best friend told me to pick it up. We use to play DOOM all the time back in the day. I have always loved DOOM and after seeing your review also has made me really want to buy it for my XBOX ONE. I will be picking this game up this Friday and I`m off work Friday, Saturday, & Sunday...oh hell yeah it`s gaming time all weekend.
This game seriously took me by surprise. Possibly the funnest game of this year.
The Doom movie should've been something like a mixture between Total Recall and Evil Dead 2.
I love the snap map feature on this game. Just adds new creativity and more to the game.
