This was really helpful. I would not have known that just the seals could be replaced. It was really hard to get that screw loose on the top and I had to use a pliers, but it did come off. Thank you so much!
I'm so glad I read the comments. I had the same problem turning the black bolt on the top. Thanks RayMeadows for mentioning the needle nose. I tried it and it worked like a charm.
Great video. Not much information on the internet on this type of flush valve yet. Thanks for your help. I agree with Ray. The top nut was very tight and almost felt like the plastic was going to snap.
Thanks so much. Turning that bolt on top was quite difficult and we eventually got it going with needle nose pliers. Not as easy as your video. Also in putting that green hopper on we didn’t get it in those four prongs and it leaked so backed up and tried it again. Now after seeing how bad that gasket was it’s a wonder our water bill isn’t sky high. Again, thank you so much.
Easy when the toilet has a separate tank ;for a built in tank replacing the flush valve is a nightmare...Great video! Thanks for posting! I'll never buy a toilet with built in tank and do not recommend to anyone...
The new seal is red. If the black screw is not attached correctly it will continue to leak. It does not mean it's a faulty part. All his steps are very good for the D.I.Yer.
Thank you for your very informative video. Before I saw your video I had bought a Fluidmaster Flush Seal at THD. Watched another video on replacing the seal. Was able to change out the old w the new w/o removing the chain & pin. Put everything back together, w the exception of removing old O-ring on black nut. Fluid-master Universal seal didn’t come with one. Toilet still making a water leaking sound. So going to plumbing supply house for correct part 🫤 Do you think that’s the issue…wrong part? Or is it the O-ring? Toilet is 5 yrs old.
If your flapper doesn’t have the black piece center of flapper and the green flapper is all one unit? Your gonna want to lift on the flapper, hole the black rod underneath with one hand, and turn your flapper according to the direction written on top. Then it removes. The black rod threads into the flapper it’s self.
Hello, Check the chain that is attached to the handle, It might be too long and catching up. Check the plastic nut that holds the handle to the tank. It might be too tight and it doesn't allow the handle to return to the original position.
There has to be at least hundred videos on You Tube that show how to change the seal on the flush valve when the valve has the green top with the black nut that you remove to lift the top off and change the seal. Sadly, there are only two or three videos that I know of that show how to change the seal when there is no nut on top, and the process is completely different and almost impossible if you don't know how. And two of those three videos are not very clear and not much help. It took me a while to figure it out along with one of those video's that I found that does deal with that kind of flush valve. Shame on American Standard for not making a video that deals with that valve.
@@peternotarfrancesco2614 Since you used the word "fractured", did you make a typo and possibly mean that his BOWL "fractured", or did you mean that one of the bolts that holds the toilet to the floor flange "break", because they each have a different solution.
american standard is not an American manufacturer. The design of the products they produce is severely flawed with reason . Not many consumers will pay $ 400.00 to a plumber when they can pay $ 150.00 for a new piece of garbage . I have 4 toilets in my home . NO MORE american standard here .
Hello Amy, Use needle nose pliers or any other pliers. It can get a little bit hard . Specially if you have hard water . Don’t give up. Let me know how it goes. Thanks
Make sure the plastic nut is tight enough. make sure the seal seats perfect. It might be the fill valve level too high. Adjust the level to a lower position. Make sure flush valve is tight and no water seeping .
I believe he did the install wrong. You're supposed to lift up the bottom green part of the flapper when you screw in the top nut, and make sure the notches match on the green parts. He did not do this and I think this is your issue.
You make it look so easy. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks.
Thank you, very clear instructions with complete information. Videos like this are why I go to TH-cam instead of manufacturers website.
Thank you so much!!!

Thank you so much for this video. It was so much easier to understand than the video on the American Standard website.
LOL. Thank you so much!!

I used a flathead. There's little nipples on both sides that no one talks about.
You made my life easier with the needle nose tip! Thanks.
Best video I've seen on this. Very helpful. Thank you Alex!
Thank you for such a clear step by step explanation. Very helpful

@@leojuarez4690 Oh yeah!! Oh yeah
i get an air bubble in my toilet during the flush. Alex, do I have to change the flush valve seal in order to get rid of that?
Thanks man.

Hello Debbie , Thank you so much for your support. God bless!! We are unique!!! "We are the chosen"
Gracias, gracias 😊
Need a flat head to get it twisted off. Then still leaked till I let water in and pressed and held until seal formed. After all that, it worked.
Thank you so much for the video!!!

My flapper does not have a bolt. Looks like older version all one piece. Any advice to remove?

my new toilet flush handle is sticking up vs returning to level after flushing. what do you think?

The bolt on my friend’s toilet has fractured and I am at a loss to find an explanation for fixing. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Thank you so much. It is my second super thanks in 3 years !!
I have a different flush valve cap. I do not have the screw drive. Don’t know what to do.
The red one is called an O-ring, the blue one is called a gasket
Thank you so much for your input !!!
Having trouble getting the black bolt off to separate the green part to put seal on
Hello Amy, Use needle nose pliers or any other pliers. It can get a little bit hard . Specially if you have hard water . Don’t give up. Let me know how it goes. Thanks
Success!
You don't have to disconnect the chain
My toiletry you have to turn that green covercou ter clockwise
Everytime I do this it works. But then starts running again after the first flush. Any ideas?
