    I recently tried turning on my air conditioner on my Honeywell 5 Day Weekday / 2 Day Weekend programmable thermostat (model 105841 / th4110d1007), which is 7 years old now, only to see the "Cool on" blink with nothing happening - the AC did not kick on, no air movement whatsoever. This video shows you my process and how I DIY fixed it (and how maybe you can troubleshoot fixing yours) so that it would turn on and work again. Of course, I'm not authority - always check your user's manual for your specific thermostat and hire an HVAC pro if you need to - be smart and safety first, always. Anyway, I hope this helps!

    You're AMAZING!! Your explanations are calm, simple and to-the-point HELPFUL!!! Dealing with 115-120 degree heat (Mohave County, AZ) . COOL light flashed, so instead of panicking, went to TH-cam and found you!! Shut that puppy down for a little bit, changed out the batteries (they were near dead), and then after 30 minutes turned it back on. Cool air is flowing again!! YAY!!! In these extreme temps, units overheat easily. Am using it sparingly in the afternoon, and supplement with stand fans blowing over block ice frozen dish pans, which is helping. I have unit set at 84F to alleviate stress on it. HOT, but won't die ot the heat. Thank you SO MUCH!!

    Fun fact! If it's actually wired properly, you don't need batteries at all. When you popped that thermostat off, did you see that blue wire connected to C on the terminal block? That stands for Continuous power. It supplies power to your thermostat from your air handler. Try popping those batteries out and sticking that thermostat back on to see what happens.

    • @diybandit
      @diybandit  ปีที่แล้ว

      Great comment. I actually just installed a new wi-fi thermostat that does NOT have batteries - just the C wire. So, when power goes out, no backup and have to re-program everything.

    • @donaldholden2090
      @donaldholden2090 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@diybandit Are you sure? More than likely there are a few bytes of ROM inside that thermostat, so it should remember its settings even after losing power. They may also be stored on the manufacturer's servers, linked to your account.

    Good video
    So I did this and it worked , however the air coming out is barely cool and not cold as it was before. Temperature is still stuck at 80 and not going down.
    Any suggestions pls would be great as the HVAC guys here just keep wanting to sell me whole new furnace and a/c unit without demonstrating what’s truly wrong with my existing units

    The AC was out for 24 hours until a new capacitor was installed, then it started working again. House was 96 degrees on a hot July day! So it was on for 3 hours. Had it set to 76 but then decided to change it to 78 after 3 hours it was on. Then couple minutes after changing it to 78, it stopped and blinked cool on and house was 80 degrees at that time. But then after waiting it started up again. And now the house is 78 degrees!

  • @vernroach3413

    The reason they build a delay into the thermostat is to keep the compressor for kicking on, then off and trying to kick on again...Not good for the compressor...It builds up high pressure on one side of the compressor, when running, lower pressure on the other..If it stops and starts, it struggling against the high pressure until both sides of it equalize in the system, then it will start...It has built in overloads, but they can burn to a crisp as well as the wire terminals if it happens to often...Makes it draw way to much current...ZAPPO...It's dead...HVAC man here.

      There is a furnace switch on the side of the furnace...It may have been turned off accidentally...Kids do that often...Looks like a light switch...Breaker may have tripped too...Thermostat probably has batteries...Thats why it is working...Try not to short cycle the AC u nit...Meaning off-on- off...Trips breakers, can burn units up.
