Thanks Marcia, honestly when we were doing the BIG declutter to move overseas I had to stop filming because it was just too much to pour out in front of a camera - I’m happy to have reached a comfortable place now and help others who struggle as well. ✨🤗✨

Thank you so much for your story. I too lost both my parents 5 and 6 years ago much too young and have two small children who will never know them. I am an only child that has had to be responsible for their entire lives worth of their belongings. I struggle with my compulsive spending trying to fill a void that will never be full. I realized about a year ago enough was enough and am now on my journey to become whatever my minimalism will be to me.... I still fall down at times but every day is a new day and I just have to put one foot in front of the other. Thank you for sharing your story. I understand even though our stories are different. It’s comforting to see I am not the only one in this situation, because at times it can be very lonely. I know there are so many others out there. You are inspiring. Your home and family are beautiful.❤️
We sound very similar. I’m an only child also and dreamed of so many things that are not to be. And the clutter is definitely a reflection of my aching heart.
We do sound similar. I am so sorry for your loss. I wish you all the best with your path. I am still learning how to live with the loss as I will never get over it but will learn to live with it and decluttering has definitely helped me with that. It helps me realize what I have keep is what brings back the best memories of the loved ones I have lost. All the rest was just stuff. Nothing more nothing less. My compulsive purchasing has also cut way back because I never want to be buried again and feel that guilt. I also don’t want my children who are only 2 and 4 to ever have to make tough decisions. I want them to know everything I have kept was intentional, has a purpose and is something I love. No wondering why or what. Take care and best wishes. ❤️
Good job Marissa! I just love what you said about 'if everything is special, then nothing is special anymore'. Gonna keep that in mind when I declutter! Big hugs!
So glad you brought how handsome your husband is up, I wanted to mention it since day 1 but didn’t want to be inappropriate 😂. You are really a sweet mum😍, love the hedgehog ❤️
I think the patio furniture looks nice and works well for an office or sunroom. I also think it must be handy because it isn’t heavy and doesn’t take up a ton of space like a traditional couch does.
I know I don’t know you, but I cried along with you during this video. Thank you for being raw and vulnerable with us all. Beautiful to see how you honored their memory, but without stuff cluttered to the hilt. Makes me think of how I can display things instead of having them in a box ❤
Beautiful video 💖 a tip that I have developed over my journey to avoid “de clutter regret” is take really lovely pictures of bulky sentimental items, and create a photo album with personal notes on each item, I did this with my daughters first outfit, craft items and things that I could donate for other children to love and use. It gives you an opportunity to reminisce without owning a huge amount of clutter 🥰
It’s lovely that you have carefully selected and displayed things that are special to you and let the rest go. As they say if everything is important nothing is important. Also I am sorry you lost your parents so young and they did t get to meet your children..... It makes it much more sentimental when letting stuff go.
I just love you Marissa! 😍 You are the sweetest person. When you get all emotional and cry, I cry right a long with you. I love watching your videos and think you are doing a wonderful job. You also have a beautiful family. Don't ever let anyone steal your joy!
I am thoroughly enjoying these videos as I look for inspiration on my new retirement and subsequent decluttering path. I am person whose childhood was “normal” on the surface but was marred by lies and narcissism underneath. Because of that history, I have modified your profound statement to read: “Focus on having the life you want NOT wanting the life (childhood) you NEVER had”. I have surrounded myself with possessions (and plants and other living things and natural objects) that now I am slowly but surely getting rid of. Thank you for sharing your own journey.
I aspire to declutter and minimize my own home. It's overwhelming to look over everything just piled up and not knowing where to start. I needed this motivation to start small. Thank you! *Subscribed*
Thank you for posting your videos. Sentimental hoarding is a very appropriate term for what I’ve started doing in the 5 years since I lost my Dad. Thank you for being vulnerable and sharing.

Yes, if you think about it this was 30 years in the making. 😬 The thing that gets me is just wishing they could be here to see how far I’ve come.😞 Thank you so much for your kind word!
Decluttering memories r the most hardest and it always take me foreverr..and i often get a comment frm my husband saying why i took so long to clean it up..while he on the other part also got attached with all the items n he dont want to even think bout it,put aside n keep everything still..finally someone understand my feeling..new subscriber here😍

I have so much more sentimental stuff than you do, but I am twice your age. I was encouraged by seeing the quickly shown photos at the end of how much clutter you used to have. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! We also plan to use it for more seating when we can "finally" have parties again - because even with our HUGE dining room table and kitchen island we still don't have seating for 20+. 😂 Did you see all the Dr. Seuss books? Have you added any more to your collection?
@@AtoZenLife that's a great idea, and it's good to not let it decay outside when you can accommodate it inside. Yes I did see them! You've inspired me with the billy bookcase. We currently have a 4x4 kallax in the living room which serves the purpose of keeping ornaments and our books out of their reach, and some toys at the bottom but I've been looking forward to losing it for some time. I say the same that they store too much and quite often a good part of it is empty. In a year or two when the little one is 4 or 5, I will be replacing it. I think the tiny amount of ornaments I have kep though will go on a wall shelf! Dr Seuss books... We now have the classic collection, oh the places you will go, the grinch, Horton collection, wish for a fish, no place like space... I think that's the lot, for now 😂 I recommend Adrian Edmondson's version of the audiobooks for cat in the hat, CITH comes back and green eggs and ham. They are brill, and on youtube 😊
Excellent job! I’m very happy for you... and feeling touched you’d share all this with us/me. Moved that your grandparents items have pride of place and aren’t lost in over abundance. This was so, so touching - thank you for being so vulnerable with us. The room looks great and the journey you've been on is so wonderful and inspiring.
🤗 sending lots of love and hugs. I'm right there with you as I know exactly how you feel losing a parent young ❤️ it's important to display or use those sentimental pieces than just sitting in a box collecting dust or forgotten. You did great and I can't wait for your last decluttering part.
Thanks for TH-cam's recommendation that I am watching this video today, I will definitely check out rest of your videos. I have started my declutter journey way before Marie Kondo was famous, over the years, I learnt to declutter regularly, otherwise, things have their ways to stay 😨 especially when my husband does not declutter much.
Sentimental Stuff is very tough for me. I have many things, that I got from my Grandpa. He died, when I was only 2 years old. So I can't really remember my time with him, but the photos of us two show, how much I enjoyed it and how much he loved me. I just have to keep his things, even if they are teddy bears from the 60s, very loved and not that beautiful anymore 😅
I feel that I have avoided getting rid of the sentimental stuff that would actually have me bawling. I’ve purged so much including sentimental, but I think I have not gone deep enough. 😢
It was emotional seeing these beloved things get displayed after so many years - I’m so sad my parents never got to meet my kids or see my home. 😞 Sentimental was hard but it was also very rewarding - cathartic you could say!
Don't you just love the Billy book cases? My Lord I used him in Philadelphia when IKEA came to the United States. We had compact discs in them arranged alphabetically. Oh my God those were the days...
My husband and I have been really diving into the process of minimalism and we've been referring to your videos for encouragment quite frequently. I really can resonate with the sentimental horder syndrome. It runs in my family!! A generational plague. 😂😩
I love the idea of intentional repurposing. It feels like a nice compromise between the want-to-save-or-repurpose-everything-to-save-it-from-the-landfill mentality (which can lead to way to much clutter + general stuff) and the it's-not-serving-me-now-so-out! mentality (which could mean that you then do not have any storage or other things, when you might actually need something similar later on) :D
I am LOVING all your decluttering videos!! You are so inspiring and YES your parents would be so proud of you!!! Sentimental can be SO hard, but it is also okay (in my minimalist opinions) to keep what you do love and cherish and I love that you have beautifully displayed some of those things!! Great videos, (I have been binge watching all your videos lol) and I can't wait for more!!
Thanks so much and YES sentimental is one of the hardest but also one of the most rewarding clutter categories to tackle - it's very cathartic and healing to release. Thanks for watching, see you around more. 😉
I was watching this and felt your pain. When you picked up the label printer I giggled as I bought one a few months ago to label my camera gear, and it’s still sealed up unused. I also hoard many things, as I get scared to part with them. I have so many clothes, many of which are my dads rugby shirts and jumpers which I keep because he only passed away 2 years ago and I don’t want them to go because when I see them, I see him. I also have a lot of office equipment after creating a semi professional studio in my spare room - as my studio upgraded, I’d buy more things and forget what I had, often buying the same thing without realising I had it. I literally have so many products that I ‘think’ I’ll need, but know I likely won’t use them and know I could sell many for close to what I paid as they’re barely used or in boxes, but I’m scared of selling them on eBay type sites in case I’m scammed, so I just hoard in boxes. I often start to declutter and I get overwhelmed by how much stuff I have, so give up. I’ll try and focus on one area at a time, but still need to find a way to rehome or resell in a way that I won’t get that fear of being screwed around by buyers.
I had my dad’s football and firefighter gear for ages, until I was finally ready to let it go. ❤️🩹 I never once had an issue with eBay but my sister had a scammer her first FB marketplace experience, which I talk about here if you want to see: th-cam.com/video/c-0zL0JXj1k/w-d-xo.html . I think 99% of the time you get honest and amazing people on eBay! That was my experience - hugs!
You did it friend. Looks great. Tidyness goals you know it 😜. I'll get there. I also have a Billy half glass half covered and I only allow myself to keep sentimental items on the glass display bit as long as they fit. But not cluttered. I have a little bit of everything that belonged to a loved one In there plus a few things meaningful to me. Other than that all I have is tons of books. Those are going in a very slow process. But loved it as always 🤗🤗🤗🤗😘😘😘😘❤️
Thanks so much, Madalena! Ooooh, I love our Billy bookshelves so much! I really like the combo of glass and closed, like you said -- it's so practical! Cheers! 😍😍😍
Omg same!! Cluttered officie, kids clothes for the other one, children’s books, the huge mirror that was on top of my dresser, decorative frames, school supplies and lotssss of sentimental items!! Thanks for the inspiration ❤️ On children’s books: my mom had saved a huge collection from my childhood, and NONE of my kids wanted to read them 😅 People, never ever throw books, give them to your school library, or to anyone who’s willing to use them for that they are 😄
Is that Anne of Green Gables I saw? My Grade 5 teacher went on holidays somewhere and decided to return with new books. Although they eventually ended up in the library, she picked books specifically for everyone in the class and that was the book she picked for me 😊.

Thanks so much, that’s really how I feel when I see anything related to Marie Kondo LOL. ✨🙌✨
There are binders with special pocket sleeves for coins. It might be a good way to store and display the coins even if you will try to sell them.
That’s a great idea! I actually sold a huge binder of Lincoln pennies, so I know exactly what you mean - thanks for the tip. ✨✌️✨
I am weeping as you are unwrapping your sentimental items
Thanks for sharing, this video will help so many including myself deal with emotional items. ❤️
Thanks, Michelle, that is my sincerest hope! ❤
I love how authentic you are ❤💙 and that you have great humor..... a few minutes later....

Bisous back, my friend and thank you for your kind words! 🤗
I loved your video ! And I’m so sorry for your loss thyr’e in a better place , this made me cry too . You’re strong girl ❤️
🤗 sending lots of love and hugs. I'm right there with you as I know exactly how you feel losing a parent young ❤️ it's important to display or use those sentimental pieces than just sitting in a box collecting dust or forgotten. You did great and I can't wait for your last decluttering part.
Thank you! It makes me so happy to finally see them on the shelf - can’t wait to share the rest! 👍
@@AtoZenLife were the photos you placed in the box your parents pictures from when they were growing up?
💜💜💜💜💜 you are so encouraging to me. Thank you for sharing these vulnerable moments 💜💜💜💜💜
Thank you, it means a lot, Jessica! ❤
Absolutely so minimalist
You did great Marissa! You did it! I’m so proud of you! Hugs!
Thanks so much Jennifer, hugs back! 🤗
I love your mantra! Your journey has been amazing!
No joke, I thought of it and was like -- gotta write this down and repeat it over and over, ahaha. Thanks for watching! 😉
Your husband is a total babe!! So are you!! Proud of your decluttering efforts!!! 😍😘
I LOVE your videos!!! Keep them coming. They inspire me!
YOUR comments inspire me! 🌟🤗🌟 Thanks for watching! Paper coming soon. ;)
Oh my gosh the picture of you when you were little! I had the same exact bed set with that dresser.
Oh my gosh! 😂 Small world! I thought it was so fancy, like princess furniture, right???? 👸
@@AtoZenLife lol yes! I had a cabbage patch doll themed bed set to go with it 🥰
Don't you just love the Billy book cases? My Lord I used him in Philadelphia when IKEA came to the United States. We had compact discs in them arranged alphabetically. Oh my God those were the days...
I can relate to the need to want to buy things from my childhood for memories sake. Hugs
Diaper bag as a camera bag - awesome idea!! :) Loving your videos, they are very inspirational and helping me sort through my own emotions!
It’s been going strong for years - the extra padding makes it extra safe! Good luck with your decluttering, keep it up. ✨❤️✨
Great video! Love that pic of your hubby -so handsome!
I love that pic of him...thanks for watching! ✨
My husband and I have been really diving into the process of minimalism and we've been referring to your videos for encouragment quite frequently. I really can resonate with the sentimental horder syndrome. It runs in my family!! A generational plague. 😂😩

Thanks for sharing!
And welcome to Europe 🤗
Greetings from little Austria 🇦🇹
Agreed! Your DH is very handsome!
Thank you! 🤗
Great video. Gorgeous husband and kids 🥰🙏🏻 Would love to see a couples Q&A video x
Thank you! I keep telling my husband we need to do one, but he is shy! I bet if I hit 10k subscribers I can persuade him. 😆
Cheers! 😍😍😍
Loved this video so much! What a lovely heartfelt way of displaying your precious items and less has enabled them to be special.
Thanks so much, Jaslyn! Yes, I'm happy to have my most special of specials to treasure now. :)
What a grt job...u are so strong!🙏🏻 and u ate truly honoring ur family & memories❤️❤️ really inspirational!:)
Thanks so much for your kind words, Pina! 🌟
Omg same!! Cluttered officie, kids clothes for the other one, children’s books, the huge mirror that was on top of my dresser, decorative frames, school supplies and lotssss of sentimental items!! Thanks for the inspiration ❤️
On children’s books: my mom had saved a huge collection from my childhood, and NONE of my kids wanted to read them 😅 People, never ever throw books, give them to your school library, or to anyone who’s willing to use them for that they are 😄
I am shocked they didn’t want to read them! Yes, donate those books, literally gold right there.
Love the finish line on this one.
Thanks so much, Erica!
Very Nice! I love the personal touches!
Thanks so much, Michelle! ✨🤗✨
I'm a new sub to your channel. Yes, your parents would be proud of you and we are all proud of you, too! -from the state of Virginia, USA
Is that Anne of Green Gables I saw? My Grade 5 teacher went on holidays somewhere and decided to return with new books. Although they eventually ended up in the library, she picked books specifically for everyone in the class and that was the book she picked for me 😊.
I cried right along with you ❤️
