I got rid of my dish drainer years ago. I’ve only ever used a large bath towel since. I just rotate & wash the towels as needed. And if I want the area cleared, just put the used one in the laundry hamper & not put a new one out until I need it. It looks much cleaner & clearer & I can actually place more dishes to drain & dry this way. I also don’t have to worry about keeping the drainer cleaned.
Never had a dish strainer nor will I ever have a dish strainer. I would hate it on my countertop and I don’t have the room to store it underneath my sink! I just use a dish towel and as soon as I put them on the dish towel I take another towel and I dry them and put them away.
✨UPDATE: I immediately replaced the broken carafe because you guys told me it could shatter! We are all about safety here. ❤️ Like this video and COMMENT BELOW with this emoji "🚪" if you are on your minimalism journey!
@Khalid The King King Khalid yep, this was more about sharing my tips, because I already did a huge declutter previously, so at this point it’s just maintenance and helping people. 🤗 Cheers!
I’ve been binging your videos for a couple days and it’s been life changing. Which sounds dramatic but it is. The “fantasy self” concept alone has changed me. I also love how you are so open about the emotional aspect of hoarding. That doesn’t seem to come up much in clutter videos. Especially when talking about “sparking joy”, yes things do spark joy when it reminds you of someone. Your videos have been so helpful. Thank you for what you do!
In Finland most homes have a drying cabinet over the sink. No need to wipe the countertops after washing up because the water drips directly back into the sink and the clean dishes don't pile up on the counters. ☺️
An aesthetic solution to the drying rack is what they call a Finish rack. We have them in Spain and it is pretty much a rack inside of the cupboard that is over the sink. The water goes straight to the sink but you cannot see all of that. We actually use it as the place to store plates.
Don't know if someone mentioned this but an idea so you can use your mother's pot on induction, is to get a steel plate and place it under the pot so it transfers the heat.
the dressing mix I just sprinkle on to a salad or onto steamed veg =) I don't make it into a dressing, however it's pretty good added to sour cream for veg but kinda sour
I dry my cast iron pans on the stove with some heat (stops rust) and it's easy n fast. Could work for your big pans! I use one of the small boon Reed drying things. It looks like plastic grass and is made for bottles. It's small but I absolutely LOVE it. You can stick things of any shape or size on it anyway you want and it holds it.
The kitchen's you called small, are normal size in the Netherlands 😅. The kitchen you have right now is considerd very big! Like, a small kitchen over here has: 2 usable cabinets, a single sink, 2 hanging cabinets, a mini fridge under a floating countertop and on that countertop is the electric cooking area (forgot the name in english). Like that's it! They are found almost in every rental home/apartement.
i never bought a drying rack i just lay down a towel and stack dishes and pans against the wall so it runs down, and glasses at the end :) it dries and goes back up to the closets
My husband and I are the same! The big one we have are his jackets. We have a place for our jackets in our entryway mudroom and a set of hooks for guests, but my husband tries to use every single hook from the hook set so our guests have no where's to put there jackets. I know he sees the set of hooks as more convenient but it drives me bonkers since he definitely doesn't need 8 hooks! We're always doing the same moving back and forth shuffle.
I'm decluttering my kitchen as my husband doesn't want to renew our lease . 5 months until moving and soo much to do. My kitchen is rough spot for me. It is where my fantasy self lives.
Another great video! I wasn’t up to a full declutter today but you made me think about things I don’t use in the kitchen. I took 17 wooden spoons/utensils, a pair of plastic tongs, and a handful of other things out of one drawer! It all went into the donate box I started in the garage.
For your mother's pot, you can still use it even if you can't cook with it. You can serve salad in it or use just the bottom as a giant fruit and veggie bowl.
I love having a clean kitchen. usually I cook 2 to 3 meals at the same time or at least do some preparing. so I definitely need space and clean items. really saves a lot of money when it comes to groceries
I love a good decluttering video 😍 one great lesson I've learned with minimalism is that you can declutter/revisit an area more than once. I've done my kitchen a few times and like you declutter we my angel food cake pan. I learned I could actually make angel food cake in a loaf pan which is better as it's just me and my partner that would eat it.

I just dry dishes on a kitchen towel. Could you put all the condiments in your mom’s pot (store the lid) so it’s useful and you get to see it? I love your kitchen.
For the drying rack, I use a bamboo X rack with a pretty and thin (to dry quickly) tea towel underneath and then swap it out and wash when I have a load of towels to wash.

I am the same way with counter clutter but having a dish rack out is necessary for me since I don't have a dish washer! I found a bamboo one (I live in Canada so I found it at Walmart but I have seen them in many different places including Amazon!) and it is much prettier than any other dish rack that I have seen and also practical!
One of the commentator’s husband put out a bamboo shoe rack he found and I thought that was clever! I know what you mean, I do TONS of dish by hand even WITH a dishwasher. Bamboo always looks so nice.
Thank you so much! ❤️ Maybe once the stores open back up again after lock down I can look into making things look a little bit prettier, but my motto right now is “make it work”.
Game changer: Always empty your sink and run the dishwasher at the end of the day. Have a dryer mat for things that need further drying and put them away as soon as they dry. Fold the mat and put it away. No clutter or eyesore left 🎉
a jear later- you can buy an adapter for your moms pot, metalplate thats put on the stovetop and thre you plcethe pot,it works great. i love your kitchen specally the drawers..i live in germany too, thank you for yor videos and work
For items, I don't put on the dishwasher, I always wash and hand dry, and put right away. Love your videos. 🚪 I'm also a minimalist and I get so inspired when I watch you. Do you know that you can bye a special plate to put on your stowe so that you can use your mother's cookware? Like the extra steal you need to make it work on a induction stowe. Happy new year 🎊🎆🎋🧧. From 🇸🇪
I had NO IDEA but this could potentially make me really happy! I will go look it up and do some research, thank you so much for the tip! And happy new year!!! 🐂✨🥟✨🍊❤️✨🧧
I have a induction burner. I bought a heat diffuser to put on it to use any of my pans. Not sure if it would work for you to use your Mom's pan or not? I bought mine on Amazon.
I'm new to your channel and I find your minimalistic videos inspiring. I'm about two years into the decluttering prosess.. It takes time! 😂.. Just because I'm selling about 99,9% of everything I own, and it takes time to sell every little thing. 😅😇 ..i love the style of your videos, makes it even more fun to watch 😊👍. Also.. The very reason I wanted to hi was because of you t-shirt: "the wand chooses the wizard". I'm a huge fan of HP, so just had to say hi 🤓⚡
I know what you mean, I actually sold most of my clutter as well, and it takes so much more time versus just donating in bulk! Always glad to meet another Harry Potter fan, I actually shared another Harry Potter shirt in my latest video in this series - it’s a Gryffindor shirt I thrifted in the 90s for $0.50, so maybe original??? 😂
Hehehe, thank you! I was working on my German with my boys yesterday, and they are getting very frustrated with my pronunciation. 🤪 Scolded by 6 and 8 year olds, oi oi oi.
Ok... I don’t have a dishwasher, and HATED in sink dryers/drip into sink dryers/mats because they’d get moldy, are unsightly and take up counter space. I did invest (because I counted how many times I’ve been through dish drying racks etc just to toss that $$ away) in a beautiful compact over the sink drying rack from Yamazaki. In LOVE..we are talking about a drying rack here people. My dishes air dry to almost bone dry and I’m left with an aesthetically pleasing drying rack that is functional, doesn’t take up counter space and literally fits any sink because it’s adjustable. Totally Worth the $$ for us. I cook from scratch and have to clean from scratch. Every. Single. Meal. Worth looking into, it fit a lot more dishes than I ever expected.
Hey there, I don’t have any social media accounts. And I apologize, I don’t know how to check reply’s here, I just love rewatching the kitchen decluttering since I love to cook/create in my kitchen and just saw your reply..If you are on their website yamazaki, under “kitchen” it is the Tosca over the sink expandable dish drying rack steel and wood. I hope that helps since they have a lot of options. It is pricey, but money well spent. I wish I had this years ago, as we are a dishwasher free family.
I saw an eco friendly dish rack on tiktok that has a quick drying bottom that I think it made of some kind of mineral. that way, the bacteria doesn't build up
I have an umbra dish mat with a removable rack so we can throw the mat in the laundry! Also have a roll up over the sink drying rack. Takes up less counter space and easy to store! Also realizing this video is over a year old so… I’m sure you have something else now 🤣❤️
There are 4 adults and a teen in my house. My mom, husband, myself, adult daughter and teen son. So, I can only clear out so much. Everyone has there their own routines, ways of doing things. Not everyone is interested in clearing out stuff. I keep it neat and clean as I can , clear out my own stuff and deal with everyone else's stuff. 🤷🏼♀️
Yes snow is so beautiful and fluffy when you see it. It's like a good nor'easter in the Northeast United States. It's beautiful for two days. Then you have to go outside and try to get to work. And the snow is all nasty and black and icky and ugh and you say to yourself why on earth was I thinking it was so beautiful. And then it snows again. And then you remember again.
I also use induction mostly but I have purchased single ceramic hob and I keep it beside the induction hob which is my main cooker. I use the ceramic cooktop for clay or ethnic pots. However I have to tell you the pot you are holding is aluminium pot and it's linked to Alzheimer disease later in life. However you could also purchase a induction top converter or a cast iron driddle or even piece of metal mesh so you could use it on the induction top
Love your kitchen! If you don't have a slow cooker, you can use the metal Dutch oven to make stews etc in the oven. Check out Joseph Joseph brand, they have expandable dish rack and unique designs.
Great ideas, thanks Vicki! I don’t have a slow cooker, so I will have to look into that for sure - someone else said there is a particular pan that can go on your induction cooker that allows you to cook on the stove, too! Mom’s pot is SAFE! 🤗
I know this is about decluttering, but if you REALLY wanted to cook in mom's pot, you can buy a single gas burner (like a camp stove but for indoor use). Would also be handy if you ever lose power, but then again, German engineering probably doesn't leave you in the dark as often as we are in some aging areas of the crumbling US infrastructure 🤷🏻♀️
I can not believe it never occurred to me to keep the condiments OUT 😭 That's why I'm so lazy to make things from scratch, I don't even keep my condiments all in one place
Are you still a minimalist? Sorry for asking but I’m going back to all of your decluttering videos because I’m trying to get my stuff organized and out of my house 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻
Probably too late, but when you have food, you don't like, just spend it over foodsharing :) There is a website, where you can upload it. Then people text you and can come to pick it up. :) Prevents food waste!
I have so much work to do I think I already mentioned to you that my significant other died well it's become extremely difficult to go through the rest of our things cuz I feel like now I have to start all over and put at a halt because now I'm afraid to get rid of anything.
Hi Marissa, just found your channel and I am really loving it. You can buy and Induction adapter on line so you can use your moms pot (love it by the way) in your oven. I've done with a similar pot and it worked. As for the dish rack, I would use on that goes in the sink, they usually have quite a minimalistic look and take no counter space. On a funny note the lobster glasses are from a brasilian cachaça brand, Pitu, which is the name for the "lobster", they are probably for caipirinha : )
Seriously? There is a product that is an induction adapter? Oh my goodness I didn't know that. Is that what it is called? I'm in Central Florida and I have some things that, well actually truth to tell, I have three sets of cookware. I don't know how the hell that happened. But two are induction. And one is not. So I was going to donate both of the others and keep one set for myself but there's a couple pans that are smaller but they aren't induction available, so to speak. What are your thoughts. Thanks so much. Gail in Central Florida Thursday, April 8, 2021. Peace.

One of the commentator’s husband put out a bamboo shoe rack he found and I thought that was clever! I know what you mean, I do TONS of dish by hand even WITH a dishwasher. Bamboo always looks so nice.
@@AtoZenLife agreed!!
Your kitchen did look very organised already before the decluttering 😍, beautiful kids!!!, you could put a drying rack inside a cupboard
Thank you so much! ❤️ Maybe once the stores open back up again after lock down I can look into making things look a little bit prettier, but my motto right now is “make it work”.
You have a beautiful kitchen!!!
Game changer: Always empty your sink and run the dishwasher at the end of the day. Have a dryer mat for things that need further drying and put them away as soon as they dry. Fold the mat and put it away. No clutter or eyesore left 🎉
When I heard 45 I panicked into silence but then realized you meant you and your family combined LOL.
Yes! That’s between my husband and myself, combined over our entire lives - still feels like A LOT. 😂
a jear later- you can buy an adapter for your moms pot, metalplate thats put on the stovetop and thre you plcethe pot,it works great. i love your kitchen specally the drawers..i live in germany too, thank you for yor videos and work
The room echoing would be a deal-breaker for me. Use a terry-cloth small towel for air-drying dishes. Easy to wash.
For items, I don't put on the dishwasher, I always wash and hand dry, and put right away.
Not sure if you a dishwasher, but we empty the clean dishes first thing in the morning, and we keep rinse dishes in the dishwasher until we are ready to run them at night.
I also have an awesome over-the-sink rack that I love, just in case.

I have the same zwilling knife. They are the best!
I was like, is that really what it’s called? So I pull it out to look and it’s a Zwilling and JA Henkels 😂 I was remembering the Henkels part and not the Zwilling. 🤣
@@AtoZenLife 😃 zwilling means twins in german. New word learned 😄
@@ivonafiri9269 Awesome!!! My five-year-old does this all the time, asks me words and then asks me what they mean 👏 love it!
I love your kitchen. Where ist it from?
I am looking exactly for a kitchen like yours. Love your authenticity. Many hugs 🤗, Monika (also from Germany)
Hi Monika. ☺️ I don’t know if you can find the same kitchen, but we went to Mobel Hoffner! Good luck with your kitchen 👍
your "Pfeffer" sounds native :D -PERFECT
Can you message me on Instagram about this??? I am so intrigued...let me know if you have IG. 😅
Hey there,
I don’t have any social media accounts.
Great purge, organize and declutter tips! ❤️
Thanks Jo! 🤗
@@AtoZenLife Welcome marissa!
I just found your channel today and I’m obsessed! I love how real you are about your decisions.
Side note.. I need your shirt!!! Where did you get it?
Woohoo, welcome! I think I got this Harry Potter shirt years ago from Target - they usually have good HP, band, and other graphic shirts. :)
Good clean. It’s motivating. Watching from Australia 🇦🇺
There are plates you can get to make that aluminum pot compatible with induction
Yes, someone else mentioned that too! I’m excited to look into this. 👀
I just put my meatballs to the oven. Next time in muffin tray😉🌷
Your snow looks so fluffy❄️
Thank you! ❄️
💖 Its late now, but in the morning Im going to do the same🙂 kitchen drowers here I come😁
Late! 🌚 Where in the world are you, Milda my friend?
@@AtoZenLife wellll not that late 18:00 in the evening, and not that far away from Germany - Lithuania. But its friday....😁

You might be able to find the manuals online and then translate them to English that way with just a few clicks
You have a huge kitchen and great drawers.
I'm so glad it worked out! :)
My mother always laid a dish towel over her drying dishes.
I can not believe it never occurred to me to keep the condiments OUT 😭 That's why I'm so lazy to make things from scratch, I don't even keep my condiments all in one place
Time to make the switch? A tray or box helps it stay tidy!
put all them together! it helps a lot :)
I keep all user manuals in pdf .. usually very easy to find them by product # and trash paper ones same day
I do that too and save the PDFs in iBooks. I’m trying to stop piling paper (I have a huge problem with paper piles), so anything helps
Iam wondering: How did you collect new clutter, when you did minimize so extreme before coming to Germany?
You can see more about my story here: th-cam.com/video/VeLg5rDNs-8/w-d-xo.html. It’s been a long road, this journey to where I am now.
Are you still a minimalist? Sorry for asking but I’m going back to all of your decluttering videos because I’m trying to get my stuff organized and out of my house 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻
Sure am! Welcome to the fam ❤️
Probably too late, but when you have food, you don't like, just spend it over foodsharing :) There is a website, where you can upload it. Then people text you and can come to pick it up. :) Prevents food waste!
Hahahahha so funny to imagine your family drinking water in the cachaça glasses calling it “lobster water”.
😅
😂
Buy some plastic page protectors and bind those instruction books.
I love Nathalie’s channel too!
Right on! 👊
About your cofee machine, try vinegar to clean it! ;)
Yes I’ve been waiting for this! 🚪
Thanks so much! ✨🙌✨
Have you looked online to see if the manuals are on there in English?
Not yet, but it's on the list! I have a bunch of people asking me to do a paper declutter and I hope to share this then!
i think that pot is solid aluminum, which is bad to cook in. hopefully its solid stainless steal so no need to worry.
I will check, thank you!
I have so much work to do I think I already mentioned to you that my significant other died well it's become extremely difficult to go through the rest of our things cuz I feel like now I have to start all over and put at a halt because now I'm afraid to get rid of anything.
Love your videos.
Thanks so much, Denise! ✨❤️✨
Peace.
Just curious, since you moved to Germany with 8 suitcases, did you buy all those kitchen items new when you got there? Ship from home? Pack in those 8 suitcases?
I’m thinking the same??
Hi Marissa, du hast auch Deutsche Fans. Ich wollte nur Mal los werden, das deine Videos Klasse sind !!!!
