On 1.6 that's harder to tell because of the large shield model, but on Condition Zero they made a model that makes that clear to see
There used to be this really cool map back in 1.6 called cs_highsociety where you could kill the power to the building making it pitch black. It was a very cool use of night vision goggles. I wish custom maps servers were still a thing

I also find the idea of nightvision goggles to be really cool in a dark map where you storm a building that has terrorists holding hostages in it.
using the shield doesnt actually make you full invulnerable. for some reason, you can shoot their legs and they get hurt. ofc this does make the trade where one shoots the least damage dealt while the ct could open their shield and do a headshot.
you forgot the "+duck" (when you press ctrl or your bind to crouch very quickly you do a little jump) i played a lot of pugs on 1.6 and it was very useful.
@@ivan_valerian if you had duck binded to mwheelup or down you could move around with very little noise and very fast. In Scandinavia we called it rysshopp aka Russian jumping
The glock had the same ammo as the MP5 because it is chambered in 9mm, as also the berettas. The flashlight was inherited from the original Half Life game, since CS was a mod of HL. The same goes for the Nightvision. It was a default vision mode in the Half Life Opposing Force. The shield was added only from CS 1.6. In earlier versions it was not present.
there's also a fun bug/feature with cameras - by default your movement is blocked while you're viewing into a camera, but if you change weapons you can now run around while still being in the camera view. So if you manage to make all the right movements and if the camera is not far away from where you are, you can actually see yourself on camera/in a 3rd person view!
Another thing that original had was that weapons used to stay on the ground after rounds, so you could actually leave from round start without a weapon and just find one. It was fun tbh. You could also farm weapons and leave the at spawn so other people could grab them.
It was actually a configurable flag server-side. Just by default it was off later. You could also configure starting ammo, or make everyone start empty-handed regardless of last round outcome.
01:32 on turkish keyboard, there are Ö and Ç letters. If you download cs 1.6 non-steam (so many turks playing) Ö is primary ammo buy Ç is secondary ammo buy
There used to be a glitch that let you have a primary weapon and a shield at the same time. The shield hitbox would still be off to the side when you had your rifle out, making you nearly invincible from one side.
The night vision has some uses especially back in the day when CSO was still a thing. Zombie mode in some map are super dark like the milita, italy, heck even assault was dark. Most defendable spot on these map are dark and zb have red nightvision instead. But get this, night vision used to be an exclusive drop from the supply box along with ammo refill. But nexon patch that cuz the whole picking up supply thing and getting a nv is fking bs and now u just need to pick a supply box and u automaticly got night vision
I love stuff like Night Vision goggles. Making them a purchasable item really cements that tactical ops feel for me when I was a kid. I kinda wish some more daylight maps have certain dark areas that makes them viable. 9:44
CS1.6's radar has few functions, but you need to use the radar and pay more attention to the position of your teammates at the same time. The radar function of CSGO is too powerful, and the enemy's position can be known through the radar. Basically, many players can realize tactics through the radar. Instead, it lost its original game nature.
yea i hate the feature of knowing enemys position, u cant play sneaky in csgo, cs2, even if u missed enemy on screen your teammate can told u info from diffrent part of the map, for me its broken for competetive play, but in 1.6 its balanced i mean its radar, but in cs2,go more like minimap.
Ngl I love this, but there are just some parts that I don't agree, first, the radar, is got to be the best, as how it makes the game more competitive, completely not useless at all, and idk if you're trolling in the part about assault, but shouldn't it be pretty understandable why you can't use the cameras when you destroyed their source of communication?
Nightvision was used to test some dark/night maps, the first one was alley1 iirc. You can turn off the lights in cs_estate but since the wall textures are so bright, using nightvision will make you feel like you're being flashbanged.
Я использовал ночное видение на карте с домом (вроде mansion), в котором можно было выключить свет. Я его выключал и кемперил в тёмных углах :) I used night vision on a map with a house (like mansion) in which it was possible to turn off the lights. I turned it off and camped in dark corners
I used to bind specific keys to specific load outs. I had a sniper one, an assault rifle one and a few others and it only bought things that you could access and had the money for, so I just had to press, say, F3 and got whatever I wanted and could on that side with that amount of money.
In my opinion flashlight and nv is very usefull if you like vanilla color many people do this for casual or bot play, basically they want a real graphics the way valve did in the original half life 1, the developers of the mod counter strike has a capability to tweak the brightness and gamma to the max as default removing the flashlight.
Originally separate ammo purchase could be done during game as well (by returning to base). Later there was a deadline timer for that. There was unusued code which changed _speed_ of running depending on loadout - in Original mod only equipped weapon and armor counted, but that definitely was the plan. Whoever convrted CS into "commercical" product had ditched all those intricate features.
hey with all these features like cameras at the end even if you said its useless i think its nice to have that feature as it might have some use to people who can use it, never say it useless, but i do agree to most people its useless coz they dont play it but it is not 100% ly useless and even if its useless to me i know its good just to have the feature, whats wrong with some decorations? if i dont use it well atleast it gives immersions that makes me feel oh this mission is for real, counter or terrorist arent really playing around, its a serious battle, everything seems so real like i was in a scene of hostage rescue or anything. i dont find anything wrong about that and if you dont like it just leave it be, no one asking you to bother with it haha
In one of the betas, they had a command you could enable as a spectator which would show the floating-camera "ghosts" of the other dead players, I think they used the orange and green-rimmed teleporter sprite from the HL single player campaign
Fun fact: In the Xbox port of Counter-Strike (yes, Counter-Strike did show up on the original Xbox), there's only one pistol you can use, and it's the Five-Seven.
I remebmer people with no microphone have used flashlights to communicate with teammates. Like you could make signals with it as it had sound or point where to go/seat.
Regarding cameras, in earlier versions of CS (at least 1.5) there was a bug which allowed you to get your character free from the camera while still using it. This was heavily used in maps like cs_mansion where spawns were close and camera view could give an advantage. You could use it while running to see where your opponent was while still moving. I believe this was fixed when CS 1.6 (Steam) was released.
Thanks to a friend's frugal nature, I never buy secondary ammo except for the pistol round. Even then it's only 12/60 for the USP and 20/100 for the Glock. IIRC he also used to only buy two mags for the rifles i.e. 30/60, but I never did that myself. Another case would be the Scout where one magazine was sufficient i.e. 10/30
2:04 Depending on the Glock model, yeah the MP5 can share the same rounds as the Glock, both of them are a 9mm weapon system Also I say depending on the Glock model sonce the Glock 40 is 10mm or .40 cal. Honestly I'm not too sure
LOL @Dezolance, Deagle with 2 clips was economically better than 3/max clips. same with an AK 2nd round. Also you need to realise the AWP costs around 125 per magazine so 30 bullets cost $250 It was huge difference in Economy for esports.
CS:GO used to have shared ammo. Valve realised this when they nerfed Tec-9 and it's ammo capacity. The feature was removed in the patch April 28, 2015.
Speaking of night vision My computer had some issues with brightness, so I always had to purchase night vision goggles irrespective of map, weather it was dust, italy, prodigy, etc So yeah, it helped me alot
As a former highly competitive 1.6 player, the radar is anything but useless. To this day you cant see if a teammate is above or below you in CSGO/CS2, something 1.6 always had. You dont need a full 2D map of the actual map on the radar for it to work. As you play, you learn how to benefit from it
cs_mansion. Ancient ass map. Also has cameras for CT, albeit not very useful ones. Also. Has light switches. If you flip em and buy NVGs, you can get advantage over those who haven't bought them and is stuck using shitty gold source flashlight because some corners will be #000000 dark. Gimmicky? Yeah. But personally I prefer game with experimental gimmicks over one that's been reduced to extremely optimized no jank, no fun allowed competitive rinse repeat arena that also hosts a dress up your gun for real money minigame. Also. Trains and on-the-rail cars that you could drive yourself existed. A carry over from original half life.
I still want the function on the CS: GO radar to see whats above and below you. Maps like Nuke can get confusing at times. I hope they add that from the old games.

The night vision goggles made sense in zombie mode back in the days of 1.6
using the shield doesnt actually make you full invulnerable. for some reason, you can shoot their legs and they get hurt. ofc this does make the trade where one shoots the least damage dealt while the ct could open their shield and do a headshot.
Cameras would be totally op if people communicated well and played as a team
2:08 Its mainly because they use the same ammo so they share it
3:10 nightvision is for using in dark, not in bright daylight.
Tbh, buying ammo for that sound is worth it.
Flashlight and nightvision are actually very good for community zombie mode because it's dark af.
you forgot the "+duck" (when you press ctrl or your bind to crouch very quickly you do a little jump) i played a lot of pugs on 1.6 and it was very useful.
oh yeah my god that was considered 'pro movement' in my area. I mean I still cant do it consistently till this day lol
@@ivan_valerian if you had duck binded to mwheelup or down you could move around with very little noise and very fast. In Scandinavia we called it rysshopp aka Russian jumping
Duke Nukem 3D also had functional security cameras back in 1996!
CS 1.6 was a mod designed as fun and community centric. While the new CSGO is simply competitive centric.
Which is how things should be
@@driskan6945 which one?
iirc USP and UMP share ammo as well.
And there were maps that where so dark that the night vision was a must buy.
My man, showing me cs 1.6 and playing Yu-Gi-Oh! music in the background really won you a sub.
Didnt know the T radar thing. So many rounds lost on nuke!
there's also a fun bug/feature with cameras - by default your movement is blocked while you're viewing into a camera, but if you change weapons you can now run around while still being in the camera view.
The cs 1.6 radar is the most simple yet the best of all cs games
I love stuff like Night Vision goggles. Making them a purchasable item
really cements that tactical ops feel for me when I was a kid.
1:09
props for using Yu-Gi-Oh music lol
The editing and the script of your videos are well done. Good job man!
Я использовал ночное видение на карте с домом (вроде mansion), в котором можно было выключить свет. Я его выключал и кемперил в тёмных углах :)
I used night vision on a map with a house (like mansion) in which it was possible to turn off the lights. I turned it off and camped in dark corners
The Night Vision was made for dark maps like cs_747 because even with the brightness turned up, some of the old maps are still very dark.
I used to bind specific keys to specific load outs. I had a sniper one, an assault rifle one and a few others and it only bought things that you could access and had the money for, so I just had to press, say, F3 and got whatever I wanted and could on that side with that amount of money.
well it's radar not minimap... and i remember it was pretty useful to me back then, i mean way better having it than not.
This video will blow up, mark my words.
U wizard or something
@@itdobelikedattho8112 250k views, seems i was right :)
In my opinion flashlight and nv is very usefull if you like vanilla color many people do this for casual or bot play, basically they want a real graphics the way valve did in the original half life 1, the developers of the mod counter strike has a capability to tweak the brightness and gamma to the max as default removing the flashlight.
Mans using Joey the Passion OST in a CS video, nostalgia overload
In one of the betas, they had a command you could enable as a spectator which would show the floating-camera "ghosts" of the other dead players, I think they used the orange and green-rimmed teleporter sprite from the HL single player campaign
you could defuse with flashlight & defuse bind, so when u press e it would turn the flashlight on and no other sound, pretty good tactic imo
If I'm not wrong u can use night vision against smoke grenade
I played cs 1.6 religiously back when I was a kid. I NEVER KNEW CCTV CAMERAS WERE A THING!!!
man I'm old.. this is so nostalgia for me. I rmb cs 1.2 was the first one we use to share one HL cd key and then 1.3 required us to buy our own HL key
"new bad, old good" this but unironically
Except not pfffpbhlulululul
Wrong
Fun fact: In the Xbox port of Counter-Strike (yes, Counter-Strike did show up on the original Xbox), there's only one pistol you can use, and it's the Five-Seven.
CS removing cameras is kinda funny when you consider how important cameras turned out to be in R6: Siege.
2:04
Depending on the Glock model, yeah the MP5 can share the same rounds as the Glock, both of them are a 9mm weapon system
Also I say depending on the Glock model sonce the Glock 40 is 10mm or .40 cal. Honestly I'm not too sure
LOL @Dezolance,
Deagle with 2 clips was economically better than 3/max clips.
same with an AK 2nd round. Also you need to realise the AWP costs around 125 per magazine so 30 bullets cost $250
It was huge difference in Economy for esports.
CS:GO used to have shared ammo. Valve realised this when they nerfed Tec-9 and it's ammo capacity. The feature was removed in the patch April 28, 2015.
Flashlight and night vision were sometimes used on zombie maps
I would imagine that the USP defaults to the unsilenced version since you can't put one on or take one off with the riot shield equipped.
Speaking of night vision
My computer had some issues with brightness, so I always had to purchase night vision goggles irrespective of map, weather it was dust, italy, prodigy, etc
So yeah, it helped me alot
lol strange
Wait, new counter strike don't have night googles vision? Why?
Joking apart, night vision was seen as top tech back in the 90's.
it reminds me of GTA San Andreas
The purpose of the flashlight was to issue a formal challange to a knife duel by spamming it.
I don't think riot shield is used to storm a group of enemy alone though.
I don't know why you ask what the flashlight or the nightgoogles are for, is self explanatory, you even answered the first one by yourself.
Well, I see the rest of the video didn't get better...
As a former highly competitive 1.6 player, the radar is anything but useless. To this day you cant see if a teammate is above or below you in CSGO/CS2, something 1.6 always had. You dont need a full 2D map of the actual map on the radar for it to work. As you play, you learn how to benefit from it
I wish Counter-Strike Source was still like this. It was just a remake after all, could've kept the tactical aspects of it.
Bro the soundtrack! Is that Yu-Gi-Oh: Joey the passionate!?
"Why does night vision even exist ??" Because it's so fucking cool man
Bind your flashlight on backspace in 1.6 and hold the key, you'll end up turning on/off your flashlight rapidly annoying the whole server
It took you two years to figure out the 2 elements of the radar? Lol
5:03 "that doesn't tell me what the map is" - it's literally written in the upper right corner of your screen lmao
A carry over from original half life.
holy shit, never knew the truck antenna on cs_assault could be destroyed
I still want the function on the CS: GO radar to see whats above and below you. Maps like Nuke can get confusing at times. I hope they add that from the old games.
Counter Strike 1.6 has the history of it being a mod for Half Life 1 so the flashlight is something left behind from HL1
