I had a senior relative that got scammed by the gift card scammers. He was on the phone with them, trying to buy gift cards at Walmart in his small town. The cashier had actually received training on the issue, and asked him who he was buying them for. My uncle responded with 'the guy on the phone'. She told him 'I'm sorry honey, but I can't sell these to you. That's a scam. You should hang up now'. The issue with Roku adding a “sports hub” is that you’d still need to pay for whatever streaming service has the game you want. Unless you’re planning to subscribe to every major streaming service, this Roku sports hub will be of little practical use.
Roku already has a Sports category on the left side of their homepage. When you click on it, it lists all the available games and the streaming services that they are on.
My wife and I are new to cord cutting. We still have trouble finding shows we want to watch. We can't remember where they are. If Roku does groupings, it would help find content quickly.
We did too at first. We wrote down what shows we liked to watch, found most were mainly on Philo ($28.00/mo). Free apps are: Pluto, Tubi, Roku, Freevee. Found our local news & weather on Roku & added (downloaded) it to list of channels (apps). Found sports on Peacock so we subscribed to watch then cancelled when they were over. Max (HBO) for special movies. Hope this helps you. He's right, we only go to the original sites to subscribe &/or cancel.
Yeah it can be a pain. I switched to streaming a year ago and it’s frustrating as there is so many services ( paid or free). I try to keep the main ones at the top of my list. Easier accessible
Luke, sending you get well vibes….I was watching a video the other day and noticed that you were under the weather. Feel better! Keep up the great content.
Now, I always wonder how effective it is, but I always send these spam emails to the company that is targeted, using their report phishing email address. And, as I continuously dumped these emails into my spam folder, over time, I now receive fewer spam attacks than before.
People need to LEARN to use their mail app better. Almost every app that allows LINKS, shows the ACTUAL target on the status bar. Never click a link that is obscured (by using a shortened link ) Even that is not proof against look-a-like domains
Also about Star Trek on Paramount +, I am somewhat a fan of Star Trek, but 20 channels of Star Trek is over Kill. And now Pluto TV has a least 5 channels of Star Trek. Why? There is so much more content they could offer.
Hi Luke the one problem with the advice you gave about not clicking the email and going directly to the site. The issue is most promotional deals are not on the sites. They are only offered via the email to previous customers they are trying to woo back. So it's a double edged sword. Even if you contact customer service they may not recognize the offer. However usually is real but private info. Just to the intended customers.
I purchased two Roku TVs, (at different times) both were capable of receiving OTA antenna digital broad casts. This was important to me because I live in an area that has lost Wi-Fi after severe storms. After one storm the shared Wi-Fi system was down for over a month and the main safety information available was OTA. Roku has since STOLEN the TVs capable to detect and decode OTA signals and have made the sets useless during an emergency. I personally will never buy a Roku product again and suggest that you refrain from purchasing from them as they have no compunction against STEALING back products that they have sold you.
@SmallHappyOtter how 🤔 are they going to lose money 💰? If you just want sports and not food network/nickelodeon/ Paraguay bass fishing with Emanuel Jones. You probably aren't going to pay $80 a month for the rest of the fluff channels. It's like wwf @ $9.95 a month with a $60 ppv for free every month. Not everyone is gonna pay for wrestlemania but if 6 people @$10. Do you made profits 📈.
@@luvdady girl… that’s not how the industry works. if they didn’t charge a ridiculous amnt for the fluff channels they wouldn’t make nearly as much money and they get away with charging a ton bc they wont get the h ch annela anywhere else
What about streaming deals via Facebook ads, are they scams too. Seen a few months ago a bunch of ads for REALLY cheap AMC for a year or for 6mo. I never bothered…now I’m glad I resisted it
Just about any sales pitch is a scam in one form or another. If you curate your own content and believe nothing anyone sends you in an email, letter, or phone call, you'll never be scammed. Oh, you also need to have your BS detector set to HIGH at all times.
I think we need to start asking why Paramount and NBC didn't join the Venu group. Maybe it's just me but I'm highly suspicious because from the outside looking in it would seem like a win, win for both of them because they are struggling to maintain subscribers. Part of the legal process once Fubo filed its lawsuit would be having the Venu group turnover all communications related to this proposed streaming app. I'm sure that part of those communications have to be conversations with Paramount and NBC. It could be that neither liked the terms but I have a feeling that they knew this would be an antitrust issue and did want to be part of any potential payout.
Not gonna happen, it is like thinking that if cable offered a la carte pricing it would be cheaper, it wouldn't be. Put it this way, the peacock game cost them 130m. The NFL tv rights are worth 11b a year. Leaving out playoffs just to be easy, it would work out to 20 million a game. To break even, that means like 10 bucks for an audience of 2 million to break even ( lets assume ad revenue is profit,).. You get the idea. It is highly unlikely at 2 a game they would make money on it, it depends on the typical side audience.. Sunday night football gets like 20m viewers, so some national games it would work, but how many would watch Carolina and Jacksonville as a regular Sunday game?
“Cord cutting” isn’t really “cord cutting”. The internet signal comes through the same wire that ran cable TV. I wound up paying almost as much for apps as I did for cable. In my opinion, it remains six of one and half a dozen of the other.
Roku was the trailblazer, but their UX is not great, and they're share of the market has been taken over by things like Apple TV and Google OS for smart TVs. Presumably Fox's Sports offering will support all the platforms. You mentioned Fubu, and I like their offering, but as it turns out, Verizon Cable is actually *cheaper* than Fubu if you want the sports packages. I'm not seeing the financial benefits of cord cutting at the moment. And probably for the reasons you mention... all the channels do better via cable than streaming. At some point there will have to be a flip in the economics, or else the cable guys will be stuck in a universe where they have to support both. Some bright MBA will figure out if they drop the price of streaming, they can save operating costs maintaining multiple viewing channels.
NBC and CBS don't need to participate. They have Peacock and Paramount + respectively. FUBO is soooooo expensive now, I would like to see stand alone channels😊
So exactly how would Roku's proposal result in increased costs? It sounds like a central hub that simply directs you to a sports stream that would be available only if you have a subscription.
@@dalewiley9208 no, what I meant was that the market is saturated enough that they'd have a difficult time turning a profit unless they have a drastically reduced pricing policy, and I'm pretty sure that would be nearly impossible with all the franchise fees & other costs imposed by the various sports agencies. They would need a ton of people to abandon their current service(s) & join theirs, and as the OP stated the only way they'll do that is if they can save money.
I get these emails constantly. Some offer deals others threaten that my service is about to terminate. I have gotten the same email claiming to be Paramount + then get a duplicate email claiming to be Peacock (which always raises red flags as why would two separate companies send rte same email. No matter who emails or calls my I have a long standing belief to call the company directly (looking up the contact info on my own) to verify the legitimacy of the email or call).
Roku would make it easier, the real problem is that sports are on x diff streaming services in the first place. It is like streaming in general, they are pricing themselves out. The NFL realizes by slicing and dicing, they make more money, peacock paid 140m for the brazil game alone. To give you an idea, the NFL makes 11b a yr from tv rights. What pisses me off is the ppl most defending what the nfl is doing wre the same ppl whining about the cost of cable and live streaming, it is the same source. Eventually like the nba and baseball, playoffs and championship games will be on streaming only. The NFL can renogotiate the current deal as soon as 2030. My bet is broadcast will only be for local home market games. The only thing that may stop this is if the NFL gets hit with an anti trust lawsuit ( it is why for example, in the auto imdustry each car maker has to make a deal with the uaw, they cannot negotiate together). Consolidation with streaming has to happen. The problem is at what price point? It is almost certain that the price will be much higher than today, lets say 20 a month, so you still might be paying 100 a month...and likely for less content.
I keep getting a scamming email saying there’s a problem with my Netflix subscription and my payment wouldn’t go through please input your information so your subscription will not be suspended sorry but I’m not that dumb but I wanna put that out there for everybody to know. And if you have an iPhone a lot of times you could subscribe to the subscriptions through your iPhone and it is more secure and very doubtful. You would get scammed this way. You can also control your subscription through your subscriptions setting on your iPhone much better than doing it through the app itself.
Roku one-Click -> ***YES*** They have had 16 YEARS to create an ecosystem that collects all of your streaming services into a voice-command / one-click launch and have failed miserably. Why do I need to dive into each of my streaming services and navigate to the show I want to watch? 16 years of technology should have gotten me to the point where a single voice command and a single click brings up my chosen program.
The problem I see is you click on a game, but it's on a streaming service you don't subscribe to. So you subscribe. Then you click on another game and you don't subscribe to that service. So you subscribe. And so on and so on. If you're not careful you'll find yourself subscribed to a couple hundred dollars worth of services.
$70 a month with Venu,CBS and NBC app. Where's the deal? Nope Sling TV and OTA i feel is best way until ESPN leaves sling. I'm sure it's coming in near future. Then I'll drop sling.

$ 42.99 for 16 channels doesn't seem like very much of a good deal to me if you are trying to cut the cord if you really stop and think about it cheaper is pretty much better
Question for Luck: why is it that you can watch the big 4 networks for free with an antenna, but in today days and age they don’t have them streaming for free. CBS and NBC have them Pracock and paramount for a fee and No ABC or FOX
If you are a cord cutter, why are you subscribing to any of those sites online? That is still wasting money and is not actually being a cord cutter! you just moved your money from one thing to another!
I subscribed to Peacock and was pleasantly surprised to see OLYMPICS on the menu. Going there gave me a menu to select a specific sport to watch. If ROKU can do this for special events/sports/award shows, and add to their menu, I would love that
They're hoping that cust will find channels that need to be subscribed to and you'll choose to subscribe to them through Roku, instead of Apple, Amazon or directly to the channel itself.
Do you know what I’m very sorry that you’re sick well, you know that drill take pain, fluids and get a lot of rest and I hope you can speak again by tomorrow that could happen
Not so sure about Roku’s sports direction - one by one, pro sports have increasingly alienated their traditional core audience by embracing the popular marxist gender and race politics. They may find the revenue from sports is down in streaming, same as it’s gone down elsewhere. We’ll see…

💯 to that! There are already numerous other options anyway, so I can't see much traffic moving to them.
So exactly how would Roku's proposal result in increased costs? It sounds like a central hub that simply directs you to a sports stream that would be available only if you have a subscription.
@@MAGA_Patriot2024 So they shouldn't try it because there are other options? Geesus.
@@dalewiley9208 Reading his user name pretty much tells you all you need to know about him.
Is Disney World moving to Nashville Is it true
I get these emails constantly. Some offer deals others threaten that my service is about to terminate. I have gotten the same email claiming to be Paramount + then get a duplicate email claiming to be Peacock (which always raises red flags as why would two separate companies send rte same email.
No matter who emails or calls my I have a long standing belief to call the company directly (looking up the contact info on my own) to verify the legitimacy of the email or call).
The streaming market today: as with Netflix, now that they have the “flock”, it’s time to fleece it.
LUKE---Do you think that NBC Sports Philadelphia is in trouble after this Chicago news?
So glad your feeling better....get rest
Do veterans get NFL Sunday Ticket for $200 a season on TH-camTV?
i diddnt know you were doing Q&A again i dont get notified please help me with this thanks

Scamming deals have been going on for quite awhile. Just check the URL and you can see where it was sent from. Stay vigilant of these scammers. There are a lot of miserable people out there who have nothing to do but scam money out of you.
If cord cutting overwhelms the current cable providers because of streaming, they'll just begin buying up streaming providers.
All ads received in my e- mail go directly into the garbage and then get thrown out on my local garbage day pickup.😉
The scammers are taking advantage of gullible people...mainly older gullible people that didn't grow up with all this stuff and don't know any better.
Roku can kiss it!
I hate their TVs
$ 42.99 for 16 channels doesn't seem like very much of a good deal to me if you are trying to cut the cord if you really stop and think about it cheaper is pretty much better
LOVE Roku. Hope this becomes a reality.
Cut the cord and get the free tv with antennae!
You say I'm likely to fall victim to the email scam? Only if im stupid.
That is a great idea that Roku has. I have missed alot not knowing where to find the sports i am interested in or even knowing it is/was on.
This is Nothing new. NEVER click on Any links sent to you no matter who sent you the link.
Sounds like a great idea I hate going online to find will a sports or shows it’s on.
Question for Luck: why is it that you can watch the big 4 networks for free with an antenna, but in today days and age they don’t have them streaming for free. CBS and NBC have them Pracock and paramount for a fee and No ABC or FOX
And Roku has disabled the antenna functionality on their sets.
@@july8xx also I have a streaming stick and don’t have it. I have to use the Tablo app
"Sports" AGAIN??? Oh well, clicking off now.
If ROKU can do this for special events/sports/award shows, and add to their menu, I would love that
Bread and circuses for the brain dead.
I would NEVER do any deal from txt or email NEVER YOUR ASKING TO BE SCREWED
I don’t watch sports anymore so I don’t care.
nwo scaming is here
Netflix content is terrible.
It's a waste I want my channels back etc
You apparently didn't listen. No channels are added or taken away. It's a hub to show you where the sports channels can be found.
They're hoping that cust will find channels that need to be subscribed to and you'll choose to subscribe to them through Roku, instead of Apple, Amazon or directly to the channel itself.
Not interested in sports
If it looks good then run from it.
Why do people bitch about any subscription just don’t buy it
Do you know what I’m very sorry that you’re sick well, you know that drill take pain, fluids and get a lot of rest and I hope you can speak again by tomorrow that could happen
fox
Stop doing the ads
Not so sure about Roku’s sports direction - one by one, pro sports have increasingly alienated their traditional core audience by embracing the popular marxist gender and race politics. They may find the revenue from sports is down in streaming, same as it’s gone down elsewhere. We’ll see…
