I switched as soon as fiber was available. When Comcast was the only optionin my aria. It was a never ending price increase company for no benefits. My fiber bill is 45 a month 500 down and 500 up. There 1 gig is 75.00. All in. Thats the bill. No caps. No bs fees. Hopefully it stays that way.

The FCC needs to force Comcast to implement roll over data or at least account for the number of days in each month when calculating data caps. I've used up both of my curtesy overages on the last day of months with 31 days. 90% of months I'm only using 800GB or less of data but sometimes I need to use more. Windows has a couple of network settings that help with data caps. Mark your internet as a 'metered' connection. Data usage can be seen in Advanced network settings under Network & internet. You can set a data cap and Windows will warn you when you approach the limit. This doesn't account data usage on your other devices. Some, maybe most(?) routers have Traffic Analyzers that will show you data usage and by which device and site or application.
I said at the beginning of the cord cutting era. In the end if we watch 10+ TV programs weekly you will very likely pay more to watch your programs. I think we are there.
If you did that, ISPs have no motivation to upgrade or expand. Plus, the 70 year old with low usage shouldn't be subsidizing the high use gamer next door.
They had already put a data cap on my service over a year ago. When I got the service I had unlimited data. I switched service providers as soon as we got a new service provider in the area a few months ago.
They will only get away with that in areas where nothing else is available. I get excellent fiber service from ATT for $30 a month. But that's only using the TV 4 hours a day.
This is another way to scam customers out of money. Fun fact, if you pay that extra $25 a month... you pay it whether or not you exceed the cap, also, you dont get a discount rate when the network goes down. ISP's are getting stupid with their rates and trying to close the price gap between individual family users and SOHO business class without offering dedicated Service Level Agreements (SLA's). Another fun fact, you don't need to lease the ISP's equipment to implement the data plan.
Comcast isn't enforcing the data cap in certain states because they got sued over it. From their website: "The 1.2 TB data plan is currently not applicable in our Northeast markets. For the states of CT, DE, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, PA, VA, VT, WV, the District of Columbia, and parts of NC and OH." -- Although, who knows how long it will stay that way.
@mathewcat86 Yes, FIOS is the reason. If they ever tried that cap with me I'd switch since the previous owners had FIOS so I have the fiber already run. Only reason I haven't switched is 1 gig fiber is still a little more a month than 1 gig coax, and 100 Mbps upload is fine for me.
In many areas of the US, including where I live, Comcast cable is the only broadband internet option. I am so tired of arguing with them and their BS just to have a basic broadband connection.
I have Comcast Triple Play (Ultimate TV, Voice, & Gigabit X2). My bill is about $325. Note that includes $25 per month for xFi Complete. It doesn't seem that long ago when it was less than $200. I am not very happy that the bill is so high. However, my wife says no to changing providers no matter what. I have several options for Internet where I live. I have two cable providers (Comcast & WOW!) and two fiber providers (Google & AT&T). Note only the cable providers have traditional TV. The fiber ones have streaming TV only. BWW, Comcast's Gigabit Extra tier was renamed to Gigabit x2. The speeds was increased from up to 1200/200 Mbps to up to 2000/300 Mbps.
They tried to push data caps in Canada and many switched to smaller companies with unlimited, although there are a still few plans with data caps. I could see Internet companies forcing people into taking TV service along with the Internet access.
I expect either Comcast to either raise the cap limit, or drop the cap altogether. They are already bleeding Comcast Internet subscribers to 5G plans from T-Mobile and AT&T, which have unlimited data caps. Not to mention that the Comcast Now plan has no data cap. So why should their other customers pay more?
What pisses me off about American internet providers is the unbalanced nature of the service, with download speeds usually enormously different to the upload speeds. In Europe, the plans offered (which are a fraction of the price of U.S.) are symetrical, with upload and download speeds the same. The American model presupposes that you are a "consumer" of the internet, rather than a participant in it. In the U.S., I pay Comcast $126 a month for internet-only service with 1.2G dowload and 35 mbps up, although I RARELY get anywhere near those speeds. In Spain, we pay less than 80 euros (about $87) for fibre optic 2Gig internet, two mobile phone lines, and 40+ channels of TV, equipment all included.
In the USA they claim that they don't offer higher speed uploads to help reduce pirating. They see every house with a younger person who would be uploading and sharing music, movies and games. That's their excuse.
@@a9ball1joke's on them, I still do it on their 50mb/s upload here in Québec (we have the same asymmetrical download/upload on many providers in Canada)
I use my own modem, and I switched to uncapped over a year ago. There was one or two months before I went over and I couldn't figure out why but I thought it was just a temporary thing. When I saw it wasn't, I decided that it was worth it to switch to uncapped. I think I might have just been tormenting more than usual but I'm not sure.
So it's a good thing that I cut out Comcast entirely a long time ago and signed up for permanently priced unlimited broadband internet from a different vendor years ago. It's not the fastest internet on Earth but it's as fast as I need in order to do everything I need. I've never bought a streaming service and don't do TV outside of an antenna although I mostly don't bother with shows and movies at all as most of them suck. I don't put crap apps (just more things to expose my private data) on my phone and don't do fast food very much at all nowadays unless I'm on a road trip. It's always been cheaper just to make my own meals and buy better food from grocery stores anyway.
I got hit with data cap. I phoned them and my options were to pay the fines, or a $30/month increase in my Comcast bill. There are no other options, where we live, so I'm 'stuck like chuck."
Comcast does NOT have a data cap in some northeast states, such as New Jersey. And they have no plans to have one, any time soon. They have way too many competitors in that region, that would be more than happy to provide service to their disgruntled customers.
Big corporations have people in their grips. You are a slave and they will take you hook line and sinker! We finally got a local service provider in our apartment complex and I dumped Spectrum which they were charging me 89.00 a month and went to 40.00 a month with our local service provider. I’m happy to say I’m no longer a slave to any big corporation. My rate of 40.00 will never go up because of the low income complex I live in,
This plan has slower download speeds than most Xfinity plans, with options of 100 Mbps for $30 or 200 Mbps for $45. It also includes a free Wi-Fi modem and no hardware fees.
I just got 500 mbps for 65 a month and no 15 monthly router fee for 24 months contract…and if you pay by autopay thru a checking account they give you 10 more off…so 55 a month out the door for 24months and free router rental for same.was paying 77 or 87 without autopay.
I don't need really high internet so I use download speed of 25. I only pay AT&T U-verse $30 a month with no cap and not charged for use of their router.
Xfinity does have their NOW Internet plan. 100/10Mbps for $30 a month. Includes all taxes and fees and the Modem/Router. Unlimited data and No Contract!!!
A few years ago I bought a new Motorola modem and paid the extra fee for unlimited data. Then back in Jan of this year I upgraded my speed from 100 Mbps up to 800 Mbps and then because my 2 year old modem wasn't compatible with the unlimited data I had to switch over to their modem. I currently pay $113 a month. I did search around for a different option, but unfortunately in my area we're stuck with Comcast! I would love to switch to fiber since the upload is the same speed as downloads, but it hasn't expanded to my area. I'll keep looking and may have to inquire about when I may expect fiber in my neighborhood.
I dropped Xfinity for Frontier after the price went over $80 for slower Internet. Frontier is way faster and cheaper but the website and customer service is terrible. Trade offs I guess.
I like the idea of viewing lines as public highways that are privately managed. Not my fault my road maintainer waited a decade too long to upgrade my highway. That should have been foreseen in the costs I was paying. These charged are insanity
Right now I have a two-year deal with Xfinity for $35 that includes 300 Mbps (formerly 200 Mbps). It includes the modem so I get unlimited DLs which I need as I stream -- everything -- and at 4K when I can. I use between 1 and 1.3+ Tb/month and my plan allows up to 1.2 Tb so some months I do go over. The plan I have was a 2-year promotional and expires next March so, unless I can something decent from Xfinity, I will probably switch to fiber -- especially since they put an access panel on my front lawn. Or I might switch to Xfinity's Now Internet which a prepaid service that include modem and no data cap for $30 for 100 Mbps dl or $45 for 200 Mbps. As far as computers, I have a Beelink mini-computer hooked up to the HDMI-in port on my Fire Cube 3rd Gen for when I need to web browse. The computer has 4k output and was relatively inexpensive. I know the Fire TV has a browser but it is kind of clunky to navigate.
I'm sticking with sling. As I have free localas. The roku aps. I looked at the other live app. Who would pay $80 -$100 a month for the same channels as sling.and some don't have history or other great channels..am I just cheap ? No more money for groceries 😂
Dont use cameras that are constantly streaming to the cloud. I have 16 at my home and that is 300mbit/s of video. Yea I have plenty of bandwidth from ziply but I still require control over my own data.
Well they have been taking advantage of us for some time, I think we are all over paying for commercials, I wonder if they understand how close to the end it is...
The internet has become a necessity like electric, gas, and the telephone and it is time to reclassify the ISP's as utility companies so we can regulate them. Also, how is Amazon and Spacex doing with their Close Altitude Satelites?
You do not need internet to survive. It is a WANT, not a NEED. You can always use a phone to get basic information and services. No more need for government to get more involved in our life.
@@ultraviolettp3446 go live under a rock and never talk to anyone. The rest of us will continue to use the internet. If you want to be a functional member of society in 2024, you NEED the internet.
@@ultraviolettp3446 If you want to make modern life 10 times as hard, then sure you don't need 24/7 internet access, but if you truly want to be part of the modern world you need at least basic internet of 25Mbps/5Mbps for home, or a mobile plan with 3Mbps/3Mbps, as a lot of business is done by email like banking for verification codes, 2 factor authentication apps, online shopping if you live in a more rural area, zoom style meetings for work, paying bills, etc..
I can’t get out from under Comcast because they have a deal with the HOA. Is there terms that if I get their modem for $25, do I actually have to use it? I’d prefer to use my hardware.
Wi-Fi cameras don't use internet unless you login to them remotely or you have cloud storage -- they just use the wireless net in your home. You don't even have to have internet to use WiFi cameras.
This is old news except for the sheer number of customers affected. Comcast has had the data cap in place since 2016 for most of the footprint and has had an unlimited data option that was offered the whole time. That unlimited option was $50 in 2016, dropped to $30 and added the service where if you rent their modem you get unlimited data and the modem for $25 in 2020. The reason the data cap was even implemented was (at least in 2016) that less than 5% of the customer base was responsible for over 40% of the data cost that Comcast paid to their transport partners (L3 and Akamai). These days the idea of having a data cap seems like an anachronistic idea because so many of the markets Comcast operates has a fiber option that doesn't use a data cap (the cost of data xfer is baked into the cost of the service)
No some of us have truly unlimited and already pay for that but thanks for warning others. Damn when you said 25$ I thought I am not paying that much but I am getting a 15$ discount on that right now. Also you need a minimum of 800 Mbps plan or higher for free equipment rental.
There's only one choice where I live and thats comcast. Verizon is coming in in the next year or so in the rural community where I live. I'm all for free market and competition but if there's only one then there is no competition. They don't offer military, senior or disability discounts and find that disappointing. My next best option and hope others follow as well, file a complaint with FCC. Doing nothing means you're ok with it.
Just more justification to have a NAS with Plex or Jellyfin or what-have-you and to sail the seas for your shows instead of streaming over the internet. Yes there are extra things to consider and the initial cost is steep, but in the long run you save a lot of money and aggravation.
I know I signed up for "Unlimited " internet, but while watching this I looked and see that they show I am using close to 600g/1.2 tb in the past few months.
I rent one of Comcast's modems for my Xfinity service but I still have the 1.2TB data cap, although I usually don't exceed it. I was thinking about buying my own modem and getting rid of the $25 fee, but maybe I won't if I can get Comcast to give me unlimited data.
I think I remember that paying $25 to get rid of the data cap is only true if you rent one of their Gateways. I think that is wrong for them to do that.
I won't. I don't have Comcast. My service is solid, and the only 'extra cost' is $30 IF I go over 1 TB in a month. Something I've not done but one time in 10 years.
I don't eat bk or any fast food anymore. Not even if it's supposedly free. I say supposedly because we all know the cost is factored in somehow already.
The electric power companies were termed “extortionists” by Franklin D. Roosevelt for their gouging of rate payers. In the New Deal era non profit electric cooperatives were established to provide their own electric service. Public utility districts were also established in many states. If internet rates become unaffordable people will form non-profits and establish their own fiber and satellite cable connections.
The only time we had limited data on our 5G was after derecho a year and a half ago and cable Internet was out. It was annoying, but we still got 480p streaming video. I actually use a Linux desktop computer instead of a Roku. It ticked me off when I found out the Peacock didn't support Internet browsers and was app only. Some sites do try to encourage me to use their app, but that's so inconvenient. My eyesight isn't as it used to be, so I want to use my TV. I also work with multimedia and stuff, so an Android box wouldn't cut it.
I think my comment instantly disappeared There's Android emulators for Linux, Waydroid and Genymotion You could also maybe use a Samsung phone or tablet with DeX, there's also a way to control it from a PC on Windows but I'm not sure for Linux
Luke - Optimum is one of the few data providers that still has no official data cap. Theirs is "reasonable and customary" or what they see as "regular data usage" across their network. Which is a reasonable way of managing data usage. So if you don't abuse it more than everyone else you are good to go (For now.).
This may change if Spectrum buys Optimun. As a former Spectrum customer, your bill will go up 2 to 3 times a year. Their service is decent, but the TV side is terrible. MANY repeat channels. How many shopping channels are needed, as if 16 are not enough. Many channels repeated.

Thank you Cord Cutters News.
I moved a few months ago and lost Comcast. It was definitely a happy move, their customer service truly sucks, and that’s being polite.
I’ve never really had a problem other than screaming at my phone to get a human operator on…the robot just keeps asking more and more questions about your account before they will transfer you to a human..and they all sound like they are in India…I just keep hitting 000000000000 when I call in then I start swearing into the phone bad ….shouldn’t have to do any of that
I dropped Comcast internet when Fiber became available a little over a year ago. It was a wonderful feeling.😀
Dumped Xfinity. Went with G Fiber and Sling. Now saving over $100/month.

Can't we get data caps outlawed?😮
If you did that, ISPs have no motivation to upgrade or expand.
Plus, the 70 year old with low usage shouldn't be subsidizing the high use gamer next door.
They had already put a data cap on my service over a year ago. When I got the service I had unlimited data. I switched service providers as soon as we got a new service provider in the area a few months ago.
I switched from Xfinity to Fiber a couple months ago. I get most of my TV from an antenna.
Thank you SLING for not raising your price......
For now.
They will only get away with that in areas where nothing else is available. I get excellent fiber service from ATT for $30 a month. But that's only using the TV 4 hours a day.
That's me in a rural area. No choice. Comcast is the only internet service.
I used to have Dish I let them go about 5 years ago. I currently have Sling.
i have a outdoor antenna picks up most Houston stations 60miles away and starlink because nothing else good is available in my rural area
That is due to being sued and congress lives in DC and MD so can’t piss them off.
I wish illinois was one of the states. Chicago is luckily getting att fiber in many places.

Starlink?
I had internet-only service with Comcast for $85. The bumped my rate to $140. Dropped them and went with Fidium (fiber) at $40/month.
Sounds like you need to upgrade the wife first
Time to start boycotting. These companies get away with this because not enough consumers unite to stop it.
But.. then I have to give up my couch potato time to protest.. cant have my cake and eat it too..
My bill was just under $200. Right now I have internet for $50, an antenna, Roku (lots free) and the Weather Channel $3 a month.
They tried to push data caps in Canada and many switched to smaller companies with unlimited, although there are a still few plans with data caps.
I could see Internet companies forcing people into taking TV service along with the Internet access.
Who has data caps here? I've never heard of a single one with data caps in Québec

Ran into data caps with Cox in To Tucson and Sparklight in Bisbee. Sparklight mostly dropped caps, but for a while I was paying $30 extra a month.
I would stop any service that went up $100.00. Believe me you will survive, I did it before and I'll do it again,,,,,,,,,,,
My Dish Bill has never gone up since I’ve been Subscribed (4+ Years and Counting) … Weird to hear that, maybe for New Customers
I have Dish, and the only reason I keep it is because of the option to record programming. If not for that, I would ditch Dish.
I definitely wouldn't be telling the whole world your security system layout.
Starlink?
Comcast does NOT have a data cap in some northeast states, such as New Jersey. And they have no plans to have one, any time soon. They have way too many competitors in that region, that would be more than happy to provide service to their disgruntled customers.
Inflation plays a major role on cord cutting with any service you wanna have
Big corporations have people in their grips. You are a slave and they will take you hook line and sinker! We finally got a local service provider in our apartment complex and I dumped Spectrum which they were charging me 89.00 a month and went to 40.00 a month with our local service provider.
Spectrum/Charter internet is already at $90/mn in our area.
I dropped Xfinity for Frontier after the price went over $80 for slower Internet. Frontier is way faster and cheaper but the website and customer service is terrible. Trade offs I guess.
Here is your car. Now for $75 a month you can go up 50mph and go up to 25 miles. For every 5 miles over 25 we will charge you $20.

Hey Luke--in your everyday life at home, what streaming player does your family use on a day to day basis?
they don't enforce the cap in NJ or much of the NorthEast region, so theres some benefit to being here... dont worry
Optimum in New York is already $90 plus tax.

T-Mobile fibre has just moved into the neighborhood. We’ll see if CC still wants to raise their prices.
Yes X finity mobile data capped me. Extra 75 bucks.

This is why I will never, ever, ever get Comcast, and stick with my non-Comcast fiber ISP.. ffs
Comcast doesn't enforce their data cap (or as they put it "is not applicable") in all markets, including my address
I won't. I don't have Comcast. My service is solid, and the only 'extra cost' is $30 IF I go over 1 TB in a month. Something I've not done but one time in 10 years.
It's not just Comcast, Spectrum is doing it too.
I don't eat bk or any fast food anymore. Not even if it's supposedly free. I say supposedly because we all know the cost is factored in somehow already.
If prices keep going up, Congress will step in and nothing online will be safe.
Yes I had Hugh net only 30 g a month. That way I went to Starlink
Just had that conversation with wife. We are about done, with all services not just comcast.
I'll go T mobile tomorrow.
I am sure that there is something going on with Comcast's modems.
Limiting bandwidth is effectively a data cap, since you can only transfer X amount of data per month. This is just another greed fee.
Dumped Comcast after 15 years, and cut my bill for the same service to 1/3 of what they were charging.
I pay $70/month for 800mb/s and not data cap. got this plan just because of no data cap. thats on comcast
Jokes on them - I still use ADSL and our provider is still shocked that we pay regularly.

There's Android emulators for Linux, Waydroid and Genymotion
You could also maybe use a Samsung phone or tablet with DeX, there's also a way to control it from a PC on Windows but I'm not sure for Linux
I will never again have a cable subscription, and I will do everything in my power to avoid doing any business with Comcast.
