- ENS Victim Advocate Barbara Schmidt discusses the medical science behind #ENS (or #EmptyNoseSyndrome), which is an iatrogenic disorder resulting from sinus and nasal-related surgeries in which the #turbinates are affected. In this episode, viewers will learn about the causes and impacts of ENS.

ENTs continue to do these unecessary surgeries due to the brainwashing they get in med school and within their community. There is no consensus on what is standard for these surgeries. Think about it, athletes all over the world would be getting these surgeries left and right if it was so bullet proof. If you ask these ENTs if they would get a turbinate reduction surgery they go silent.
The truth is there is not a justifiable reason aside from a tumor or cancer to alter or suction anything relating to the turbinates. Anything outside of that is a crapshoot and everyone's turbinates are unique to ones size and body. They are extremely essential yet ENTs continue to do irrational procedures (no matter how conservative) with fancy gadgets that can cause irreversible harm. Beyond incompetent.
What is also deranged is how they think everyone heals the same. They hardly ever look at underlying health issues that could further contribute the chances of having complications such as Ens/post surgical turbinate injury. All about the money.
The amount of people getting this is absolutely insane. It’s not until you join forums and Rhino/Septoplasty groups that you realise how common it is. It’s the most evil thing I have ever suffered with in my life and I didn’t even need or consent to turbinate surgery. I’m sorry to everyone else suffering with this. It’s inhumane.

If my ENT ever mentions touching my turbinates, I'll walk out of the office. I already suffer from a dry nose thanks to chronic sinusitis, no thanks! I'll stick to antibiotics.
My ENT suggested I get a turbinate reduction and of course mentioned nothing about empty nose syndrome. I would much rather have a constant stuffy nose than even a chance of ens. I feel so bad for people with ens.
Exactly, at least a stuffy nose can be opened but an opened nose can't be closed.

My ENT suggested turb reduction for allergies (like that makes any sense) and made no mention of ens or any horrible complications. I did not need turb reduction; but he hooked me when he said he had the same procedure done without issue. These docs are just out to make money.
How is that not a law suit
My ENT also recommended surgery and didn't mention a single word about ENS either and when I brought it up, she acted stupid like she had never ever heard of ENS, so dishonest!
How you can trust Doctors who dont make any additional reasearch beside what they are told in School?
You dont! Dont do surgeries unless your life depends on it.
My surgeon lied straight to my face! He told me turbinates can and will regrow and we can redo the operation ib the future now and in hindsight i understand why he said we can do it again which in english means pay me again.
I had surgery to reduce my turbinates more than 15 years ago and as of today they have grown back and unfortunately after having covid they are even bigger and will not go down. It’s been months and a long list of meds to try and help. I’m looking at another surgery.
were they reduced by coblation (submucosa burning) and then caterized at the point of wound or were they resected with a cold knife?

In Deutschland haben die meisten HNO Ärzte noch nie etwas davon gehört oder behaupten ENS wäre eine neue Erfindung...unglaublich traurig.Es wird auch nicht im Studium unterrichtet , zumindest sagen es die HNO Schwestern.
Der 1.HNO Arzt Dr.Robert Bodlay in Lichtenfels Bayern , der mit Dr.Houser in Amerika zusammenarbeitet versucht durch Implantate den Empthy nose Pat.das Leben zu erleichtern.
Ich habe Implantate ENS IT...nichts ist mehr wie es früher war.
Schmerzen , schlechter unruhiger Schlaf durch die Atemnot und Verspannungen , da der Körper nicht mehr seine Muskeln locker lassen kann.Ständige Mundatmung trockener Mund Halsschmerzen.Bei der Sommerhitze oder beheizte Räume ein Horror.
Die Nasenmuscheln sind tot im Liegen besonders stark ständig Nasenschmerzen , Verschleimung PNDS Aufwachreaktionen .Ich Kämpfe jeden Tag und Nacht , bete , daß dieser schrecklige Zustand weggeht.Geht er aber nicht!

Bei mir fing alles mit einer dentogenen Sinusitis an , was über 10 Monate nicht erkannt wurde , von Haus aus alles zu eng ...kranke polypöse Schleimhaut hat sich entwickelt. Die kranken Zähne schick überkront( Wurzelgranulome)dann gezogen , die Nasenscheidewand gerichtet , PansinusOp und das Schlimmte die Dezimierung der mittleren und vorallem unteren Nasenmuscheln .
Die Entscheidung für eine OP hatte ich lange hinausgezögert aber es mußte sein , hoffte auf Besserung und dann das!
ENS...jetzt bin ich EU Rentnerin und kann nicht mehr als Krankenschwester arbeiten.
Depressionen , Atemnot/ Panik und jeden Tag weiterhin pulsierende Schmerzen ...und u.a.Trigeminusschmerzen mittlerer AST.
Das Leben ist jeden Tag ein neuer Kampf.
Keiner kann es nachempfinden wie man leidet nicht einmal die eigenen Fam.Mitglieder.
Äußerlich ist ja nichts zu sehen.
Ich bete jeden Tag , auch für euch , ihr die das gl.Schicksal habt.

Holy shit, my ent doctor told me I need surgery on my turbinates because they are swollen. I got home and started looking at post surgery videos and saw some dude (Mellow Mike) warning people on most videos about ENS. After some lengthy observation on my nasal cavity I can see that the upper part of my left nostril collapses as I breathe in. By simply lifting my valve I can breathe a lot better. I think I'm going to avoid the surgery all together and just buy some high quality nasal dilators. Thanks for the awareness. Side effects of not being able to breathe properly through my nose already have me in a great depression, I can't imagine ENS symptoms. Turbinate reduction should be criminal.

Routine turbinate reductions are a crime.
I read some nasal steroids can also cause ENS. But a couple people said that fasting helped their symptoms.

I have ENS after a Septoplasty and partial turbinate removal operation. They never wil acept ENS (bad for bussiness). Hugs from Norway
So what a person do if he had Deviated Septum and difficulty in breathing at some time in a day.
He should always avoid Septoplasty and Rinoplasty ? And live with less breathing nose ?

I had a deviated septum, I could barely breathe through my nose and after the surgery I can breathe PERFECT through my nose, I don't even open my mouth anymore unless I talk or eat.

Wish I know this be fore u got my surgery done. I have bad crust now. At first I can breathe way better but lately my nose is always stuff just like when I didn't do the surgery.

Jesus, Ive been suffering so bad since last surgery. So many things went wrong. I think this is what I have, of course there wouldn't be anyone here to diagnose this. My sinuses are dry as a bone now and bleed.

My right Inferior turbinate was completely removed without any reason during surgery. No wonder I have not been feeling well at all...Now I feel out of it and cant think straight. My right sinus and near the eye is always dry and I wake up gasping for air sometimes... I also sometimes feel like Im out of breath and my chest feels heavy and my stomach sinks in...My right eyelid is always swollen now...I hate this feeling. An Ent at Mayo recommended an oil to use inside. Im scared to try it because it says it might cause side effects. I dont want to feel worse than what I already do. Its not fair...Thank you for sharing this information!! I feel lm not alone anymore
Was the oil your Doctor recommended called PONARIS? That is a Natural Botanical oil blend of eucalyptus oil, Pine oil, Peppermint, and Cajeput, in cottonseed oil, with 0.4 percent iodine. I just started using it so, I am not really familiar with how well it works, but so far, it is okay.

It is very simple. Never do turbinate reduction.

@@ryanbrets7695 this has less risk on ENS, but not impossible. The problem with Septoplasty is, surgeons often peform a turbinate reduction as well, combined with the septoplasty.

I recently went to another ENT doctor about dealing with my symptoms of ENS. I asked him if he knew about the nerves located at the back of sinuses. He had no clue....

I've found ENT's to be absolutely clueless and helpless... They obviously need to hit the books more if it's their job to be in the know. Ffs.

To be honest it's the ENT surgeons to blame for all of the suffering. I've met some of the most humble humane non surgeon ENTs and one of them i recall plead me not to undergo a revision surgery but i didn't listen and went to the surgeons again. Goin to a surgeon and asking him to operate on your nose is literally like walking into hell with your own two feet.

@@Nenad-ICXC-Shuput-GFAMMA You should. Know what helped me. Nasal valve collapse surgery opened my nasal cavity so I get good flow through myy nose. Hard to get the surgery and it's a bitch of healing. But at least I can now breathe!

I'm getting anxious because i'm afraid i'm going to need surgery. My nasals are too dry & i can only breathe from one nostril & afraid this will make it worse 😓
I have the same problem and what's worse I live in a desert and high elevation. My nasals are already dry
If your nose is to dry try using a humidifier and drink lots of water and avoid anything your allergic to.

Don't let the surgeons get through your head "i think im going to need the surgery" that doesn't sound like your idea. Yes it will make you 10 times worse and after you've done the surgery you can't blame anyone but yourself. Your nose is your life, don't ruin your life. (Unfortunately i did)
i do not recommend a smd submucous reduction.or any method of turbinate reduction. my inferior turbinates where reduced by diathermy and debrider.it was the smd method i had done submucous reduction.i constantly suffer from empty nose syndrome because of this.2 ents said both my inferior turbinates where reduced overall between 25% and 30 % .
How is your nose and breathing now? I did it on both my turbinates because they were enlarged, and I did it 1 month ago, but for the past 2 weeks my sleep has been disturbed and I often wake up 4-5 times a night and my mouth is always dry like I breathe through my mouth.. But I did not feel any blockage in the nose, I have never felt sleep disturbances like this before, this happened after the operation was finished... I am very afraid of the risks of ENS... Most by now know what ENS is but do not understand into detail the complexity of how turbinates work and how it is interconnected to other organ systems. This is the embarassing part on their end. Even worse when a handful know the severity of injuring the turbinates and continue to overly operate.

I had my last surgery more than 2 years ago. They did submucosal resection. I was fine for 2 years. Is it possible that I developed ENS 2 years after surgery? I have the feeling that I don't sence the air anymore and I feel like I'm suffocating a lot. I also feel like my automatic breathing doesn't work well anymore. Is it possible that the nerves are somehow damaged 2 years after the surgery?
PS, I still get real nasal congestion, which means my turbinates can expand enough to block my nasal passages, however even when my nose is opened the breathing just doesn't feel right

Yes, you can develop the syndrome even after many years. Mostly it happens right after the turbinate reduction but in some cases it develops more slow.

A year ago I had a turbinate reduction surgery and I was left with a lot of nerve pain. I have been prescribed tegretol but have not taken it yet. Someone has tried? If you have any recommendations, I'd appreciate it.

The best method of use is with a microdebrider with a cold tool also how come there are many vhildren around the world wmthat has a turbanets reductions and also have improved quality of life reducing the turbinates does not always mean that airflow is bad do you k ow that if your turbanets are completely blocked you will experience the same symptoms as ens trouble sleeping not enough air due to blockage again heating the tissues always causes damage but a slight reduction how can this cause ens turbenctomy yes thats removing the whole turbinates

Hello my name is Guillermo I had a right turbinate reduction 5 months ago and I developed symptoms of ENS what kind of treatment do you recommend or what are the first steps to have somewhat of a normal life please advised I’m so lost and afraid on what the future looks like
It's about managing dryness. I would suggest a humidifier in your room at night. I found that saline rinses help, but using them every day makes me worst off. I also found that after about 1 year I seem to be getting more sensation back and am able to manage dryness more effectively. I use nasal oil when my turbinates get too dry which helps a lot, neil med make a good one (dry nose spray)
My son did it today without discussing it with me, I hope he will not have any complication

I have done inferior turbinate reduction 3 days ago and i can't feel the sensation of air flow, seems like the nerve is damage. How long normally it tooks to heal again before i can say this is a Empty Nose Syndrome?

Similar situation here... was about to have 3rd turb surgery but cancelled last minute. I dont have dryness, but my main problem is obstruction, mainly on right side, sometimes it's okay then it gets bad, always fluctuates, have allergies apparently

You can't get it that way, it doesn't work like that. Inhaling steam is not harmful.
Only few People suffer a ENS?! how come others dont?? I think there is No such thing like ENS, i had removed most of my nose turbines, because all my life i couldnt breath, so with an Laser, myturbines were removed, and i can now breathe

The ENT who performed the turbinate reduction on my nose told me afterwards that I have a great nose. Do you think he was BSing me? I had my turbinate reduction and balloon sinuplasty done seven weeks ago.

@@timcepin3386 this is a mystery. It is not to be predicted who will develop ENS and when. I got it 1,5 month after radio ablation, wich is the newest and most often used technique. But WHY and when it develops, is unknown. I have the idea the most people who get it, it more or less develops right after the surgery. But why in some people it develops after 2 years, is not easily answerd.
Then what can I do to breath out of my nose? Any alternatives that won't cause ENS? I've been on allergy shots for over a year. Hasn't helped.My sinuses are fine and I don't get sinus infections. Just can't breathe out of my nose. I have a diverged septum, swollen turbinates and collapse when I breathe in. I'm on two medication and two nasal sprays and wear Breathe Right Strips at night to help some.
