    Thanks for the review. I ordered this pack after watching your video. One thought about the roll down top. Here in the desert SW (central AZ) we are not always able to hang a pack to keep it off the ground. While going through a bag the other day (draw string closure) I found a scorpion had made his way into my pack. Fortunately he was already dead but that was an eye opener. The roll down top will certainly deny future invaders access to the main compartment, although a properly secured draw string could also do that given some effort. I have been looking for a small pack sans straps to use on a pack frame. This should work nicely.

      Randy Anglin being from the Eastern Woodlands, denying access to scorpions and such wasn't something I had thought about. That's a really good point! Thanks for bringing it up!

      That and thats just how an Ass Pack has always been since WW2 so you can since your gear tight, loose is bad noise discipline because things shake so in the military we used to sinch it down real hard....same with the alice pack and this version of an ass pack is essentially a mini alice pack

    • @whatabouttheearth
      @whatabouttheearth 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wait did you mean the dry bag part? We used to just have a draw string, same reasons, noise discipline, dryness and bugs (we keep a spare field stripped MRE or two in ass packs among other things, extra magazines, extra skivvy rolls which are socks/shirt/underwear rolled up, lol, or shoved in)

    Nice review. I have one made by phenix gear that's pretty much the same thing, even looks the same except mine is multicam (the only color the Ranger Joe's catalog had ($20). Very great invention and a bargain at twice as much I often MOLLE it towards the bottom of my rucks near where I carry the compression sack for my sleep gear, which often causes it to push up; it doesn't bother me and lets me carry more gear (as if I don't have enough with the extensive use of MOLLE on my rucks, compression sacks and MOLLE pouches on my ruck and tac vest, Molle pouches MOLLEd together and put into compression sacks inside the ruck, and I pack meds heavy, trauma kit, gear heavy, weapons, mags, and ammo heavy, etc...... which is great for my fucked up knee and chronic pain, lol. I use the outside compartments for, you guessed it, extra mags, top zipper compartment for an extra pistol and ammo and/or extra meds (which I carry tons of, as I suffer from chronic pain and panic disorder, so real meds [no OTC shit], as well as another, larger IFAK called a MAFK, which is a lot bigger and carries a lot more than the IFAK I have on my tac vest/plate carrier and they are set up as trauma kits. Have you noticed the outer compartments make the back look much like an A.L.I.C.E. pack? I'm guessing that's what inspired it. Your putting that hatchet behind the compartment gives me an idea where to carry my Vietnam Ranger Tomahawk (great piece of gear for melee, as you can use the tomahawk blade as well as the bladed, arrow head shaped spike thing on the back; I'll have to figure a good way to draw it quickly right handed or use it left handed if needed in a hurry since I keep my dump pouch on the right side MOLLE on my vest). I carry a fiberglass handled camp hatchet for chopping (to keep the Ranger Tomahawk sharp for combat) and that can also be carried between a compartment and main storage while training with my gear in the wooded mountains around my house (we live in BFE, so I can shoot guns all day, hunt and not worry about seasons and tags, be in camos and full combat load while "loaded" :), etc...... since our land is private and neighbors and cops are miles away). Thanks for the idea. I can also use it as a car bag to carry an extra gun, extra ammo, extra pain and panic meds, a bigger knife than the tactical folder I clip to my hip pocket, and other useful stuff. IDK why I didn't think of it before I watched your video. And remember, there's no such thing as too much paracord ;)

    So is it designed to be compatible with an ALICE LC2 belt and harness at the same time as your wearing a large (with metal from or medium without metal frame) ALICE rucksack?
    Or should only be won with belt and harness without rucksack?

      That's a valid question. I guess you'd have to take the whole system off in order to do that. Or what you could do is hang it off the Molle webbing in a pouch on the front of your belt like I do in reality. :-) I pretty much just stuck it there to show what the bag can hold

Leave those side pass-throughs for your machete and saw if you can attach them at the top, or skis if wearing high on your back like a small ruck on a MOLLE panel with pack straps or hydration vest etc.

    Will a pistol belt work with the pack or do You need a suspender setup?

    • @BudgetGunsandGearReviews
      @BudgetGunsandGearReviews  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Robert Richardson
      You could probably use a pistol belt, but it would support a lot better if you had some kind of suspenders setup. of course, it would really depend on how much stuff you planned to carry.

    • @cthulhu6697
      @cthulhu6697 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BudgetGunsandGearReviews I've used it on my pistol belts successfully. I now use the U.S.GI MOLLE type waist duffel in the same place on my pistol belt : at the small of my back. Where I could see this butt pack really shine is when you're carrying light ( maybe because you have to grab your stuff and run and you aren't able to strap on that big military ruck, you're doing recon, doing combat patrol, and you just need a patrol bag, use it as an assault pack, etc....... ). You could mount this on a belt and harness system like the old LC-2/Deuce gear with this on top of your back harness and something like a surplus gas mask bag or the newer GI waist duffel on your belt. That would give you enough capacity to live for a day or even two if you pack smart. It wouldn't be comfortable, but it would sustain you until you got back to your main camp with your big combat ruck full of gear
