  • The sparkle minnow is tough to ignore; it’s full of flash and fun to fish!
In this variation of the original, Matt utilizes a brush from Montana Fly Company and some Ripple Ice Fiber from Hareline to speed things up and make a durable fly.

I tie lots of these in olive/white, gold/white, and brown/yellow. What are your favorite colors for this pattern?

Nice tutorial with great tips. I especially like what you did with the white belly and the finishing dubbing loop. Thanks.

Couple things because I'm a grouchy, know-it-all piss. 1st, people cant preen, we dont have beaks. and 2nd dont use scissors to trim wire. get some wire cutters. I'll even send you some if you want haha. I dont remember where I got mine, but they are wire cutters with a bar on the blade that prevents the chunk of snipped wire from flinging off into the carpet to stab you in the foot when you walk barefoot through your office....Anyway. love the fly, and love your channel!

Thanks for watching and the kind words. Agreed, you don't want to use your nice scissors for cutting wire which is why Matt mentions at 8:49 to "use some junk scissors." Instead of tossing scissors when they start to get dull we usually demote them to wire & whatnot. You can put some tape on the loops or even hit them with a little spray paint to help keep track.

@@TheNorthernAnglerFlyShop Your welcome. Do you have or know of an original sparkle minnow video? I noticed in the comments the belly was made with a dubbing loop, probably made and stowed away after the tail was tied in? If your familiar with the G&H Caddis (or Goddard Caddis) that has a similar technique for the "belly" or abdomen because the rest of the fly is spun and trimmed deer hair. The Feather Bender has a SBS on his web site. Very cool pattern! Just wondering if I'm on the right track. Thanks again!

Thanks for watching! That’s the Renzetti material clip/hook keeper. It’s great if you tie articulated flies as it keeps the back in line and out of your thumbs. thenorthernangler.com/products/renzetti-hook-retainer-material-clip-1?_pos=2&_psq=material-clip&_ss=e&_v=1.0
