Thanks Martin! I just got my 87V today! This video and part 1 helped me decide on which meter to get. It's my first "grownup" multimeter, and I'm definitely glad that I made the purchase. Your in-depth reviews are on-point. Keep it up!
Since I own a regular Fluke 87 without the V, I have learned that your video works for this meter as well! Thanks mate, all the way from Texas!
I have the Fluke 83 III and just out of curiosity I tried the procedures you were doing and a couple of them worked. This is a great video, Thank you!
I've had this fluke for 1 year and i didnt have anyone to teach me those hide functions. really thank you for teaching those functions!
Martin, your reviews are amazing.
It's really cool to get a critical evaluation from someone who is such a serious gearhead.
My pleasure, thanks for the feedback.
Fantastic features considering that this meter has been quite some time. Amazing. value on this meter. Very good video explanations indeed. Thank you very much.
My pleasure Roberto, thanks for watching and the feedback.
Thanks Martin. That was very informative. I tried to check my fuses and it kept beeping "lead". Now I know how. Also,it was nice to learn how to check how many times it's been calibrated. Thanks for the help
My pleasure, I'm sure you'll be very happy with the 87-V, it's a great meter. I hope they approve the discount for you. Cheers, Martin.
Thanks for the feedback...I'm happy it was of value.
I just bought my 87-V and thank so much for your video.
Very good video with many unknown features. Good job on that one! Thanks
My pleasure, thanks for the feedback.
@Robbyinwesthouston Yes...very good point, I had not thought about that. Thanks for watching and posting.
Thanks! When i tested my MM F28IIEx firts value was correct 1.001
Second value a little scared me because it shows 0.3 constant, sometimes moved for a second to 0.4
Great explanation! Well done
Hi,just received my 87v Max( identical to 28ll according to Fluke)for $25.00 less? Thanks for your excellent tutorial. 👌
Great explanation in the video I have downloaded it. By the way, you are the best in this field wish you the best luck. Thanks.
Great job as always, Martin. I got a kick out of "POff... that's very polite. :)".
Thank you for the very informative video. I'm hoping to getting a new 87-V soon as long as Fluke approves my student discount.
A bit late to the party, and this might have been mentioned before in the comments, but you can have the meter display its firmware version (the latest being 3.03 as of 2018) by holding the Hold knob and turning the selector to the DC Volts range. The same thing with turning the selector to the mV DC range instead will show the model number (F87).
Muchas gracias por la aportación.

Eres muy bienvenido.
Excellent video and great explanations and demonstration. Thanks.
Thanks...I do open them now...see the later reviews. Cheers, Martin.
Thanks for your input. Cheers, Martin.
Great video. Just run through all the procedures on mine, cheers!
Awesome Video Dude. Keep up the great work. Nick.
That "LEAD" with the beeping is actually the test mode for the fuses. If you have the meter in a non-current mode and plug a lead into a current jack it beeps and shows "LEAD" if the fuse associated with that terminal is good. The way that you tested it is a Fluke recommended way to make sure that the fuse is within its resistance spec for sensitive current measurements, but for non-critical measurements, the test mode is quick and easy.
Great, I'm glad it helped with your choice. Cheers, Martin.
Great video. I'm buying this meter because of you
That was an interesting, cool video. Thanks for posting it.
Thanks to the great tutorials.
great info, thanks for posting it !
Great video!
Thank you so much for your helpful tips
THANK YOU, very instructive
Thanks for this video, great information. even for an 'ol timer'. thanks again.
My pleasure.
That 87v has only been calibrated once when it was originally produced at the Fluke factory. It could have been checked on the 06/09/2012 and still been within factory tolerance and not needed calibration.A calibration check would mean the tolerance / accuracy values are compared to the Fluke quoted values. If they are outside of the Fluke quoted values then the meter needs to have actual adjustments made to the readings through a calibration process, that adds to the calibration (n001) counter.
i LIKE YOUR VIDEOS
@managarm1349 Indeed...not sure why they don't....
Awesome video
Thank you for sharing
Fluke 87v... I give you five star
thx for the video, this is very helping, keep up the good work, I have this multimetter and it's great
Khaled Hariss Thanks very much for the feedback.
Plz help
Great video, thank you!
Thanks M8 I just bought a brand new 87-5 and I Love it!!! This vid was fantastic because like you said, Fluke doesn't have it imprinted on the DMM itself. I'm also going to watch the vid on Advanced measurements.
TY Again,
JJ......How do you flip the desk over in the vid? Which Prog are you using, .Camtasia?
Great video thanks.
GREAT VIDEO....THANKS MAN....
Came here to turn off sleep mode and learned much more. Thanks! Now is there a way to activate the low pass mode on my 88v? Lol
can you make another video on how to use the mulitmeter on the fluke 87V?
as I just picked one up. I wanted to know how to use a mulitmeter but more over on a fluke 87V.
thanks
ok cheers from macedonia!
Thanks for the video, just picked up a 85V for $99 USD on ebay by pure luck, it's like new, but this helps since it had no manual.
My pleasure.
very lucky
+Starfire Technology I got mine Fluke II 28 Ex for 70$
One organisation completed their jobs & released their equipments for lower price
+Starfire Technology Congratulations!! I just picked up mine Brand new in a box sealed for $200.00 from someone who got it as a gift but was waaaay too much for him.
This is where you can get the manuals if you want them. en-us.fluke.com/products/digital-multimeters/fluke-87v-digital-multimeter.html#resources
in my industry (telecommunication) I've gone through a few meters. the 87v and the 117 have been my go to meters after tha the meters have been more speializes HST3000 for example.
Yes...it does seem to be a cost they cut out and a silly one at that.
👍🏼 you always Rock......
thanks, was awesome
Can the smoothing feature be used when measuring ohms as well?
Interesting...if it came in original unopened packaging I would say it must have been done twice in the factory. If you did not get it in original unopened packaging I would question if it is brand new or not...
I figured that was the case. on my 87 and 87-3 its engraved on the back case. Maybe it was a cost they cut out.
Great video. Hey do you think getting a 28II for $280.00 used in mint condition is a good deal? Not sure if I want to get a 28II or 85V. I currently am using a 117 so not real sure.
Hello.
Could you please tell me if this model, the 87V, is the best multimeter for electricians??
Amigo gracias por kompartir si compartes un video en la práctica p ver sus ventajas PRESICION exactitud y rapudes kon una tarjeta electronika sería mejor
My fluke 28ii is flashing lead when in dial is turned to any of the voltages or ohms. Even when the leads aren't plugged in. Any suggestions
Some these "hidden" features have been present since the first time a used a fluke 87 in 1988-89 while in high school. Some are embossed into the rear panel of the meter. They used to be printed on a quick reference card that came the meter. I still have mine i keep under the yellow rubber holder. This stuff in the owner's manual which people don't read very often these days...
Is there any way to get these settings to stick through power on/off?
Good game Martin
Hello, I hope someone can help me with this. At work we have a Fluke 189 and a 87V. Now, since I sometimes work with mV, I need 3 to 4 decimal points. Unfortunately, the Fluke 87V only has two decimal points. Can someone please tell me how I can add more decimal points so it can be like the 189.
Thank You,
When a fluke 87v is powered on without probe leads is it supposed to show numbers on the display? or just zeros? I want to bid on a used one and the picture shows numbers on the display and the seller says it works. but he did not answer my question about the number on the display. Hope someone here can tell me.
Thank you
thank you..i didnt get mine for $99 haha....£299..but worth it..great video thanks again..
Thanks Martin, I got my 87V (second hand) and I checked for 10A fuse and get reading about 1.2 Ohms. is this indication of a blown fuse? is anything I need to check to make sure the meter is not having any issues?
I wish you could save some of these settings!
yellow button , I call it the "shift key".
I hope Fluke calls to thank you and if they do, ask them to install a 9v dc input.
i have question .i put the leads to connect 9v battery positive to positive negative to negative is no reading.i reverse leads have .554reading on the diode setting test.is normal or short circuit ?
JUST IN YOUR HONEST OPION AND YOUR KNOWLEDGE WAHT U SAY BETWEEN THE TWO. FLUKE 287 OR THE FLUKE 87V? THANKS W9DES
Oh...ok, sorry but I no longer have that Fluke...it was on loan. I hope to get my own and will post another video then.
I might be barking up the wrong tree since the video is so "old" but so is my meter. I have a second hand Fluke 87, not anything following the 87. I got it without a manual but I found one on line. Anyone know how to disable automatic power off on it? The method use in this video on the 87V does not work, I get no Poff display. The manual is not helpful unless the only way is with the MIN MAX option.
Sorry...please explain a little more....what do you want me to do more of? Cheers Martin.
Great Job !!! I did not about those special functions even exist, I never heard before about the nano Siemens, well you always learn something, are thos function are available for fluke 83?
Siemens used to be called Mho's (reverse of Ohm). It's the unit of conductance.
Hi friends I got a 87v multimeter it's giving some problem I want some advice from your experience. the problem is when I switch it on the beep noise is coming and display showing "LEAD" what
could be the problem battery already replaced. please help.
My multimeter has the message ''CAL ERR'' on the screen. Do you know if I can solve it myself, and how?
Thank you
Hola me puedes ayudar en mi multimetro aparece en el Displey
Calle Err y no lo puedo setear que le hago por fabor
Espero respuestas por fabor en español muchas gracias
thanks man just got my 87 today! got a deal $40!
lol probe and fluke nok box
The fluke 87 multimeter.. Are the specs similar????
question can I use 9v rechargeable battery to power this meter sir ?
I just wondered, what to do if you want more than 1 power on options to be activated? For example, you want the zoom-in bar graph (with center zero) and don't want the meter to auto power off after 30 minutes. So you should disable the auto power off function and activate the zoom-in bar graph.
But after you activated one power on option, you need to switch off the meter to activate the second one, but you'll loose the first power on option by doing so...
You can hold both buttons down at the same time, then turn it on, and it should work for both power on options. This works for both my fluke 87 and 115. If I want to disable the beeper, and the auto power off, I can just hold down the continuity button, and the yellow button, then turn it on, and it seems to work just fine.
I just checked, it does! Tx ;)
wow thanks
I have issue in my fluke 87, it’s giving (CAL ERROR) please help me to fix this issue
How do you check temperature
Do you have one explaining the range function? I am measuring current with an AC clamp. When I set the Fluke to milliamp, I get a reading of 7.82 but the range is auto and shows 60 on the bottom. So is that 7.82milliamps or amps?
+Jim Avila What current clamp are you using? Most current clamps output a voltage based on the measured current so you measure voltage coming out of the clamp on the multimeter not (milli)amps.
mV ,es lo que sale de una Pinza .
can you do more please
I have a problem of "CAL ERR" in my fluke 87 series multimeter. Please say the way to solve it
I have two pcs same error please help
First time to see your face!
good day sir i have a fluke multimeter just as yours... when switching it on it will show f87 then show error and you cant do nothing else after that.... what do you think is the problem???
+A Raphael) Have you Googled Fluke 87v f87 error? That would be a start!
Hi Martin, You forgot the option for light.
👍👍
Hello mjlorton. Sir, respectfully, could you recommend a power supply of 500 - 600 watt range, variable power, one that is not too expensive, however, reliable. Now I really don't need a power supply that high in wattage, but, I don't want to buy "something more powerful" as I progress in this hobby.
Thank you, Sir.
You will never need a 600 watt power supply, if your project is this big then believe me you will be getting another power supply or designing a power supply for the project. A 180Watt power supply is more than enough.
I recently bought a used fluke 87v from ebay i choose this over an agilent u1272a for a similar price but brand new. The seller said it was calibrated 06/09/2012 with certificates great. When i got the meter and did the cal test it shows n001. Would it be possible to explain the difference between calibration and calibration check?
My 87V is calibrated every year against a lab grade Fluke meter. Since it measures within tolerance of the higher accuracy meter used for calibration, no calibration adjustment is necessary. Hence, my 87V calibration number stays at n001.
Una cosa el Calibrar ,y otra es Ajustar.
I hope there's not format c: option. Otherwise bye bye my fluke. Too complex for me
What video is the next one we're you tell something about nano Siemens. Let's say part 2.
I bouth mine from 2nd hand and it were CALibrated 3 times. Is it OK?
Thats good. Because then the previous owner have been sending it in for service regularly.
I bet this guy could fix my flashlight.
Sir my multimeter continues beeping problem show lead alarm...how to remove this fault
bad fuse gotta get it replaced
Try to clean out your 10 Amp and 400 milliamp plug jacks out with a Q-tip, you probably have some dirt or debris in one of the ports. Try blowing the ports out first and then use the Q-tip to remove what's left, you can use a little 70% isopropyl rubbing alcohol on the Q-tip as well. This will most likely fix your issue.
