Having played an int build, some of the more powerful spells take 2-3 slots, so it can be useful to have extra spell slots from a talisman for a full toolkit. Great videos! I love watching them in the background at work

Agreed, I also noticed he played ER before the other games so his perspective while imo wrong makes sense. If I played ER before BB, I'd probably feel the same. So glad I didn't as all ER showed me is how much hand holding they're willing to do for newbie players like the Jester.
I'll never forget getting literally trapped in the Catacombs of DS1 and having to fight my way out for over an hour bc I was under leveled and my wep sucked. I could have quit and just started over w/ a new fresh character but I didn't. That struggle was harsh but felt so real and I have many other experiences like that from the other older games that ER can and will NEVER match.

On my first playthrough, I missed a cave in Cave in Limgrave, 2 caves in lurinia (+ the illusory wall dungeon that had the ice rapier in it, a cave in Caelid, 2 caves in Altus, didn't finish patches quest, messed up Dung eaters, and most importantly, I missed Jarburg, and the ape tailors ending, and probably never would have found them on my own. And I looked up the Euradition churches, amongst a few more things, and 2 deathbirds. All to say, I was really trying a 100% on my first playthrough. Oh, and missed 1 or 2 bell bearing hunters.

One thing I don’t believe you mentioned in the first video & haven’t so far in this one are the littered bundles of weapons you can find stuck in the ground all across the game. Each with a main big one giving you some lore & info on Godfrey’s battles across the Land’s Between. I thought they were super interesting & provided some excellent rising tension towards meeting Godfrey & also some mention other characters like Godrick. In case my description was bad lol, there’s one set right outside that first grace before you enter the Caria Manor grounds. The first grace right past Iji. Also there’s a set somewhere outside before Castle Morne off to the left I believe. I just think they’re pretty interesting & helped deepen my appreciation for the lore of the Shattering as well as for the characters mentioned in general.

I have some gripes with the comments you bring up at the beginning and your replies to them.
Firstly, that you state the story in Elden Ring is superior to all the orevious games. I won't deny that Elden Ring has more fleshed out characters, with more defined personalities, each with their own ambitions, quirks, beliefs, flaws etc. But that isn't to say it has the best story. Compared to previous titles, especially but not exclusively to Dark Souls 1, Elden Ring uses far less environmental storytelling. Enemy placements and item placements were much more considered and placed with clear intent, enriching the worlds with mountains of lore and greater cohesion. Special enemies, like Black Knights, Hydras, NPC invaders, Wretches, Mimics etc were always placed with thought behind them. Elden Ring focuses more on its major characters at the cost of the smaller things. I too think it does these major characters better, but that's not to say the story as a whole is better. It's different. It has a different focus.
Secondly, that you discredit Dark Souls 1 and 2 for being "slow and ugly." Now the first statement only hold s any weight if you believe slower gameplay is inherently worse, which is not the case. You can prefer faster gameplay, but then that's a subjective take, not an objective one. More complexity doesn't automatically make gameplay better. Marvel VS Capcom games have more complex gameplay than Street Fighter Alpha 3, but most people wouldn't say it's better for it.
The second statement can be interpreted in two ways. Did you mean ugly in terms of graphical fidelity? Sure, you can have that one. That is an objective metric, and Elden Ring obviously has higher texture resolution and polygon counts than its predecessors. But art direction? I hope you didn't mean to say such a thing could be measured objectively ad it's probably the most subjective thing you can evaluate in a game. And seeing that I would consider a game's "bauty" to be a mix of these two things, your argument is only valid if you only mean that Elden Ring has higher graphical fidelity. And moreover, the importance of graphical fidelity to the quality of a game is debatable.

This was an enjoyable video, although there are two things I disagree with. The first is with the Royal Revenants which to me feel like they were intentionally designed to be an unfair enemy to make them more terrifying and add more variety to the combat, e.i a dash of bullshit if done in tasteful amounts makes a combat encounter more memorable, and I have found memories of exploring dungeons only to realise there is a revenant and immediately becoming more tense. They are similar to the Shark giants in fishing hamlet serving as a way to spice up combat encounters.
The second is with the overall boss design in comparison to Dark Souls 3. As someone who recently finished DS3 I think Elden Rings boss roster has lower lows but higher highs. Some of the side dungeon bosses are pretty terrible but I consider fights like Morgott, Mohg, Maliketh, Malenia, Godfrey, Radagon, Rykard and Radhan to probably be the best bosses FromSoft have ever made (although I am yet to play Sekiro which I hear has amazing bosses). On topic of Elden Rings boss design I would be curious to know what your thoughts are on some of the boss critique videos made by people like VG Matthew and Joseph Anderson. Personally, I think their videos are terrible and just spread misinformation but I’d be curious to know your thoughts on them.
    Good luck with part 3.

Honestly my only two main complaints with Elden ring is 1: Sometimes I do feel like the world has a little to much empty land where there's really not a whole lot going on. 2: In my opinion the armor selection is very lacking plus having most of the armor in the game being locked behind having to grind out mobs.
DS3 Had so many great armor sets yet Elden ring has the same armor set 6 times just with slight alterations or just various sets of dingy robes, but other then that I do like elden ring more. I do wish we could put ashes on talismans and staves or have weapons that could also act as casting weapons.

I had the same thoughts as you with regards to Moon of Nokstella. But then I started preparing my NG+7 character for the DLC, and found myself using utility talismans like this one so I can equip all the chunky powerful spells like Scarlet Aeonia, Greyoll's Roar, and Founding Rain of Stars.
I find in further cycles, you have less of a need for standard talismans, like defense protection and damage buffs, and instead favor the ones that increase your utility like the Moon and Great Jar Arsenal.

I would like to see a video with the objective take that Elden Ring is the best. I don't plan to harass you in this comment, so I apologize if my word come off as insulting.
Objective means that something is a fact. Elden Ring has objectively sold the most units of any fromsoft game and objectively has high player counts on steam. Videogames are art, so I don't see how you can objectify art. Even a game like Starfield, which you claim to enjoy, I would not say is objectively bad.
My subjective opinion is that Sekiro is the best fromsoft game because I would say it has the last amount of flaws, but BB is my favorite.
Anyway, I think you should make that video. GL on content creation

    • @jesterofjuice5132
      @jesterofjuice5132  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

There's a quote people use when someone talks down the merit of modern art being lazy and lacking substance, such as the banana taped to the wall which sold for $120,000, which goes, "You could have done that, but you didn't." It implies that the value of the art comes purely down to the subjective, no matter how easy the art was to make, and how simple the concept is.
Personally, I find the idea to be nothing but cope.
A banana taped to the wall is objectively stupid and if it makes you feel something, then you should probably get your head checked out.
Videogames are on the opposite side of the art spectrum from bananas taped to walls, in that they require a foundation of cold hard code and thoughtful design direction to even stand a chance of presenting the artistic side of the game in any meaningful way.
When I say that Elden Ring is objectively better, its a lot like saying the canvas, paint, and brushes used are higher quality in just about every single way. Which doesn't mean you're going to like what they painted, but it does have objective qualities that can be appreciated for the effort required in their creation.
I'll think about making a video focusing purely on the objective metrics that make Elden Ring the highest quality game that From has ever created, but at the same time, like I said, it would probably be dry and boring, and wouldn't have much potential for jokes.

thx for exploring allt he wodners of eldenring, lets me appreciate this world a little more, bc imma be honestthe bosses kinda kill eldenring for me, if I was given the choice between ds3 and ER every day of the weeks I'd pick ds3. the epic bossfights are my main focus in soulsgames and with a few exceptions ers bosses just aren't that fun, i'm rarely excited to play against any boss, margit/morgott and godfrey/hora loux being a bit of an exception. as a consequence of that focus open worlds are really mid for me, so much missable stuff, that is potentially broken (which is another thing, yes there are a lot of ashes of war, but some just straight up suck and some are so op that it makes the game into a spammfest, which is very notable in pvp) and I hate having to look through guides to find it, but that's all just a me thing, so as said thx for giving me a way to appreciate the stuff I don't find enjoyable to play ^^

  • @BBQcheese

I never meant to insult you I'm sorry if I came off that way. Honestly, just read my comment again and I don't see anything that could even remotely be interpreted as an insult, let alone 5 of them.
My point was that objective is being misused. You say here you can back up your statement with tons of metrics ect. Which I'm sure you can however someone does not need to value those metrics themselves as people play games for different reasons.
There is no such thing as objectively better, or worse this is a misuse of language. If you're using your judgement, which you must do in order to evaluate the quality of a thing, it isn't objective.
I'd hate to see people dismiss your videos because because of this. People constantly do the same thing to Mauler. His DS2 videos are very well made for the most part. However people dismiss 10 hours worth of evidence based on a faulty conclusion.
Anyway, I meant no offense and you can obviously do whatever you want.

    • @jesterofjuice5132
      @jesterofjuice5132  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

I appreciate and accept your apology but I deeply disagree with the idea you have that there is no such thing as objectively better.
For example, nobody will even flinch when I said Starfield is objectively a terrible game which shouldn't cost $70, within this very video, because it is provably true.
The game lacks content in major areas and should have been classified as an early access title, having a price point that reflects that.
For a more extreme example, it is a fact that The Day Before, is a terrible game. No one would argue against that. And even if they did, we would write that person off as delusional.
Subjective opinions don't change reality, however, even within your world view of people valuing different things differently, you still have to admit that Elden Ring casts a wider net of gameplay, weapons, world, and everything else, which isn't arguable, it is a fact.
Which means, your argument isn't just against all the metrics of quality I could list including improved combat, less tedium, more bosses, etcetera, but also against the idea that EldenRing offers more, which will appeal to a larger amount players than every other game.
Elden Ring beats all others within the realm of subjectivity by nature of popular opinion, but also beats all others objectively by nature of its improved mechanics in just about every facet of the game.
And again, this doesn't mean you can't simply like any other game best for various other reasons.
At the end of the day, I appreciate that you're looking out for my best interest, however, Mauler is pretty popular, and I imagine got that way through voicing his strong opinions despite criticism, and if I'm following in his footsteps, that doesn't sound all that bad

I get that grey souls 3 is supposed to be depressing, but for me it comes off as ugly instead, just look at BB it has a depressing but very beautiful atmosphere/world.
The only good looking area in ds3 is Irithyll, the rest of the area’s are summed up in 3 colours, which make all of them blend together and make the overall experience very forgettable.

Did you really say ER is objectively the best souls game? I am a fromsoft fan boy and every fromsoft fanboy I know and almost all of my favorite ytubers also made videos calling ER out for being the worst soulsborne game. There is some decent content in ER, the capital, is imo probably the best designed level in a souls game. The lack of actual 1v1 invasions, the fact the open world breaks the souls formula and absolutely doesn't compliment it. Fighting the same bosses over and over, the stupid caves. The fact you can barely fight most big enemies in the overworld because they disappear while you're fighting them, the story - lore sucks, I could go on but I think there is a character limit. Maybe I heard you wrong or misunderstood you but did you actually say something to the effect of, if you played all the content and didn't like it, that's your fault for not skipping the bad content? Then you said ER is so great because you intentionally skipped stuff focusing on boss fights and once you played it again and did the content you skipped you realized how good the game is because content you skipped was still waiting on you when you booted the game up. Wtf? So if a game has only one hour of good content out of a 20-hour game if you just play the one hour of good content over and over that means it's a 10 out of 10 game? As long as you don't play any the bad content? And you're also saying that Elden ring is special because you didn't go to certain places in the game because you chose to go somewhere else and then when you came back those places were still there, isn't that like every video game ever made pretty much? Yes it's very empty and repetitive of a world and it was such a waste of time they could have made two great souls games in the time and money and assets that they made this one jumbled incohesive mess. And just the fact that you spoke the words "find three turtles mini game" in a dark souls game is proof right there that Elden ring is a joke and after the dlc let's all pray that from realized that ER was only a financially good game and they can take the money they made and give from fans what we actually want, like everything before Elden Ring. Skipping content is never an answer. In every from soft game I would have to see 100 percent of the content because it was all top notch, unique and I knew I wouldn't walk in a boss fog and see a boss I've fought 4 times already with another boss I've fought 5 times already. Bloodbornes combat is way better. At least bloodborne and all the previous dark souls games had some form of balance while Elden ring just absolutely has no balance whatsoever, another reason why open world souls breaks the game.
