    The rusted subframe issue is now covered by Mercedes. The subframe on mine, a 2010 E350 4Matic, actually broke last fall. I was quoted $2800 by a European Repair Shop locally. I did some research and found a single post about the recent decision to cover the frame because of the class action lawsuit. My local dealer, Astorg MB-Volvo-Audi-Land Rover, told me that nearly ALL MB vehicles are covered as long as they are not more than 20 years old. Mileage is UNLIMITED. Hope this helps your viewers!

      Yessir! Need to make an updated video or short on this. Weather hasn’t allowed me to do either lately :/ summer time is fun time for me up here haha.
      But yes got mine done at about 140k on the chassis. No issues went smoothly. Got a terrible c300 as a loaner that I reviewed on my channel haha

      @@mrapter7 Mine was 167k miles. Was in the garage for 5 weeks behind other subframe repairs. 5 total weeks including repairs. Got the car back, 2 days later, rear ended by Ford F350 with tow hooks. Luckily only bumper needed fixed. Still cost the guys insurance $2530 plus 2 weeks of a rental car @ $40/day! I would love to find a 2013 E550 (with Sport Package versus Luxury Package if that is offered on the E550) with low miles, regular dealer service, clean CARFAX, etc. for a fair price.

    I do put a lot of money into my S212 (that's the wagon) but I like it to drive like new. When the subframe rotted, Mercedes did the warranty and I bought all new arms. Now I'm ready to do the front (maybe myself with expert assistance at the car hobby shop). Keeping a nice E class in perfect condition is like making payments on a basic Ford Fiesta. For the subframe, clean the inside and shoot WD-40 (there is a better product but the name of it slips my mind) into it every time its raised and you'll double its life span. I have used 6 sets of tires, all top brands. Best choice so far: Goodyear Eagle Assymetric 6.

      We finally got free replacements in the states! I don’t think this engine is gonna last me another 10 years…so I think once I get the replacement I’ll be good!

Tomorrow its going in for re-seating all four injectors and tranny cooler. Needs flex pipe and stab links also. I'll soon be using the car hobby shop on the base. There is expert assistance for 1 dollar per minute if needed, like swapping strut springs while I go hide in the bunker.

    @jensz9360 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Yeah I was going to get a W212 and then I watched this video talking about all the issues on top of the rotting subframe. This is unacceptable from a "luxury" brand. I dont care if they replace the subframe at no cost. How long will that replacement last? Also its just the fact that it will be in the shop for this and that perpetually. Reminds me of BMW, constantly needing somethig so you can never enjoy the vehicle as you should, always wondering what will go wrong next. Even with warranty no one wants car in shop all the time.
    Then I read the comments and it sounds like unfortunately the W212 is a worthless money pit. Its a damn shame since the body style and interior strike that balance of sport/elegance. Thanks for the upload on his, it potentially saved me a huge headache, but also crushed my enthusiasm for getting the vehicle.

    • @mrapter7
      @mrapter7  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Aside from the subframe (which is a free fix, thankfully) these w212s have hundreds of thousands of miles on them.
      Problem is when you buy a non-maintained one. If the chassis has been, they have next to no issues, no more than any other car. The difference comes to WANTING to drive it like it’s new so yeah, I’ll get every little thing fixed as it has the potential to drive so much better than most cars.
      I know tons owners with well over 200k on m272, m276, m273 or diesel options. They generally don’t have many issues, which is the sole reason they are used still as workhorse taxis all over the world.
      Again, choose a performance engine? Gonna need some extra love. I don’t think anything I say in this video is anything out of the normal truthfully. Just buyer (and wallet) beware when getting a baby AMG, twin turbo V8 lmao.
      Get a 2010-2015 e350 or diesel, 2011 or older e550 or e63 and you’ll do nothing but change the oil.
      I’ll end by saying, if you want a cheap car, don’t get an older Mercedes. If you want a 50-70k car for a cheap cost of entry, the w212 is a great modern place to start. Do your research, buy responsibly, and for the love of god don’t go to the dealership and understand the car and chassis.

    • @jensz9360
      @jensz9360 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mrapter7 Yeah, I read the diesels are more reliable, but I dont know anything about maintaining a diesel engine. I really like the style of this gen E350.
      Yeah I stay away from the stealerships no matter what make of car it is. They know next to nothing and are just there to churn cars in and out. I may still consider buying one , since the chasis is a free fix, but is it an improved chasis without the rust issue later down the line or is it just an overstock chasis they install in there from the same batches that were defective?
      For someone who isnt really a Mercedes person what would you recommend someone look at and check before buying (Besides usual stuff) like any particular places leaks happen to watch out for, any exhaust issues or things like that, leaky sunroofs (pano roofs/ regular sunroofs) etc?

      @jensz9360 eh I disagree. Any car that pushes limits in any regard - performance, luxury, handling, a little bit of all 3 - will always require a little more attention than a basic Camry.

    I heard w211 Mercedes Benz E500 is very reliable, naturally aspirated with excellent interior, the wood doesn’t fade and the seats are all genuine leather , not Faux leather like w212. What do you think? Can you make a video about w211 models?

    • @mrapter7

      I don’t have access to a w211 right now but I will try to get my hands on one. I’ve had time behind the wheel in one and they are very solid cars, great dynamics. Not as sporty as the 212s, the interior hasn’t aged as well, but I’d buy a 211 350 in a heartbeat as a second car.
      The 500 is great. The m113 engine is ultra solid - but so is the m273 in the w212 early years. Ideally the 2010-2011 w212 550 gets you a great modern car with no real engine problems.
      I’ll see what I can do about getting behind the wheel of one!

    • @mrapter7
      @mrapter7  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The same as the sedan - like anything get one with a good history and they’re very solid cars, especially the ones without the twin turbo V8. Keep in mind these need to be maintained - you should expect 1-3k a year minimum for basic maintenance.
      Some repairs can be 2-3k at a time. Not crazy, but it’s still a $70k+ car and you should expect repairs and maintenance that fits.
      If you are not willing to give it the love it needs as you own it, things will break and cost $$$$.

    These are minor things compared to what i'm going thru with my 2012 E350 with the M276 engine, CURRENTLY. I'm talking about Cam sensor needs to be replaced (4) because they are throwing oil to the harness and in the ECU, Oil cooler gasket is leaking oil.....This issue is a growing problem on the m276 i have heard from a few mechanics. Also, the Crankshaft Seal Cover with Seal is leaking too. I don't think they (MB) wants most of these cars to last more 10 years.

    • @mrapter7
      @mrapter7  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      No, that’s not true. To be fair, at I’m guessing close to 100k miles and 10 years (time especially) gaskets may be due for replacement, and service is needed.
      It’s also how it was treated the first 50k or so in its life. If it was a lease and beat on, you’re gonna have some issues down the line for sure. Nothing crazy, but more wear on items.
      The cam sensors are super easy to do, and are known to leak oil up on the pigtails and eventually I to the ECU. But that’s a very very slow process.
      I wish you luck on the repairs, these seem fairly straight forward, aside from the Crankshaft seal. They aren’t cheap to fix, but they’re worth it to fix, imo!

      @mrapter7  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I wish you were right, and my subframe didn’t have rust! The aluminum chassis of the 211 were rust free. They went back to a steel subframe for the 212. It’s all over the internet and I’ve seen about 6 this year that we’re finally due!

    • @jensz9360
      @jensz9360 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is a recall of sorts for it and MErcedes will replace the entire subframe free of charge and if you already did prior to the notice they will reimburse you for the cost. The fact is this should not have happened with a luxury vehicle brand like this. Its pitiful.
      Seems like the W212 isnt worth it. A real shame considering it looks great, iinterior is nice and everything.

    • @mrapter7
      @mrapter7  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      After 2014 they did make adjustments and changes from what we have seen. They are not “safe” but simply too new to have issues. In a poll online, nearly all issues were found within 2009-2013 pre facelift.
      It’s typically a 10-12 year issue from new is what I’ve seen, but depends on the life of the car and where it was driven!
      I wouldn’t let it deter you especially after 2014!

    You paid 15k for the car and another 10k to make it run great, you could have rented the best luxury car for that much money. I got crazy about 2014 E350 and did test drive few of them but I couldn’t get convinced that it could compare to my 1999 Lexus ES300 or my previously owned mercedes 300E w124 that I owned 20 years ago. My Lexus has 256 K and the worst thing I faced with it is a knock sensor which is nothing compared to MB or worse BMW and Audi. I think German are smart in making beautiful furniture called vehicles. While the Japanese make reliable cars but unfortunately they recently started to make ugly cars with stupid looking grill and geometrically uneven exhausts. The thing I loved in the MB 2013 to 2016 is that the exhaust is hidden. That’s a nice thing but airmatic, timing chain and cheap interior makes me look to find a 1980 or 1990s w124 or w126.

      Yeah back in the day there were two plugs per cylinder to make sure it had a very clean burn. With DI engines this isn’t needed as everything is so granular.
      8 plugs. $30 at the dealer for Benz, or the same part by Bosch for $8. Make sure they’re indexed and gapped correctly. Even the OEM plugs don’t come indexed correctly all the time.

    • @mrapter7
      @mrapter7  14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hmmm it’s really an engine reliability issue. I didn’t mention any other real major issues (subframe covered, and is still a fixable issue, all brands have air suspension issues etc) the chassis is solid.
      At 160k miles the biggest chassis issue I have? Wheel bearings. And that’s kinda predictable with this many miles with a heavy engine. Front end suspension worn out and needs to be refreshed.
      This in a normal m272 v6 e350 easily goes 200k without much fuss. Diesels are regularly hitting 500k - see them all the time in our group!
