Great list as always and slowly becoming my go to for reviews as I feel my taste in scotch is very similar to yours. So I am in New Zealand for work and had to bring a bottle for my isolation and the easy choice was one of my Bunnahabhain 12s. Since it was the only bottle I was drinking over 10 nights, I really got to know and love this bottle, so 100% agree with your choice as for the price and availability its a home run. For my 3 weeks while working here, I decided to bring a bottle of Kilkerran 12, which has become a staple of mine and will always have a bottle on deck with one in reserve. Between these 2 bottles, I had everything I needed honestly, but did miss some of my others I have open at home that are more special occasion or Friday night drams like my Springbank 10, Glen Scotia Victoriana, The Balvenie 15yr Single Barrel and Yamazaki 12yr.
Daily sipper - Glengoyne 12, best buying - Glen Scotia 15, one to impress - Highland Black 8, Friday Night pour -Ardbeg 10, occasional one - The Irishman 17
Wonderful review and recommendation, Alan! It's tough to pin down to only 5, but my 5 will be just based on affordability, accessibility and non cask strength as my daily drams: Ardbeg 10 Kilkerran 12 Clynelish 14 Arran 10 Bunnahabhain 12
Thank You for your take on this list. I shall be on the lookout for the Kilkerran 12 year and the Bunnahabhain 12 year old as well. Those are the most available. By me I hope the GlenAllachie Batch 2 came in and that is it. This batch hit my area in full force months ago and for the most part they sit on the shelves. I'm happy I can get most of these for retail.
Great list!! I agree on the Kilkerran. I have an Edrador 10 cask strength sherry maturation and Glenallachie 10 cask strength batch 2 sitting on the shelf unopened. I wish that I could’ve tried the Ardbeg Dark Cove but never saw it in stores here in California. Cheers!!
Awesome list! I really want to get ahold of an Edradour 12 cask strength. I'm struggling to get on with the KK12 though, reaching past it for the Bunna 12 more often than not.
Nice video Alan, I have Bunnahabhain 12, GlenAllachie 12 and because I'm Irish and I love my Irish I have Green Spot Château Léoville Barton coming tomorrow, because of your recommendations. Sláinte 🇮🇪☘️
Had a solid 60ml sample of the Edradour recently, and found it difficult to get 'into', adding some water brought out a lot of oak bitterness. Definitely needs more to sit with and get to know by the cozy Friday night fire ;) Look forward to getting a bottle eventually. GlenAllachie 10CS is one of the next on my list, and just about to kill both my bottles of Bunna 12 and Kilkerran 12. Cheers, Alan!
Great celebration of classy, classy malts Alan... really enjoyed this selection.Chuffed to see you squeezing Bunna 12 in... and Dark Cove is a great choice for the finale. That sample you passed on 🤤
Cool list Alan, and a great way to start looking for some new whiskies to explore and discover, I've thought about a list myself, but I'd probably come up with a different list every other week ;-)
Been wanting to try the Kilkerran 12 and Springbank 10. Both are hard to find in the states and its not cheap. KK12 is like $75 in New Jersey. SB10 is like $80
Great list Alan. I've had a sample of the KK12 and I will certainly get a bottle at some point. I always have a Bunna 12 bottle open. I have an 9 yo IB cask strength Edradour but haven't opened it yet. I don't have Blaaack, but I have many Ardbegs in the bar. No Glenallachies though. Need to get one of those 10 CS batches for sure Your short sleeve t-shirt and summer buzz cut made me cold looking at you and I had to get another sweater on! :)
Hi Alan great review thanks. The Glenallachie 10 cs batch 3 has an abv of 58.2% and priced at £58.50 on Amazon. Is this worth buying or do you think batch 4 is better? Thanks
I love my Edradours ... have about 10 in my collection ... I'm starting to notice a buzz around the distillery and it's making me worried ....... I'd prefer it stays a secret. :)
Too bad Edradour / Signatory sells only to 2-3 countries outside the UK. Never seen it on these shores and Signatory isn't interested in selling it here either. Go figure.
I think the KK12 is not as pleasing as the Glengoyne. It’s more straightforward, rough and most important it has that salty maritime flavour in combination with a little bit of smoke combined with a nice sweetness. Definitely something different than the Glengoyne, but it’s great stuff. You cannot go wrong with it. Enjoy
@@exactmat sounds great! The closest thing I've tried to your description so far is Talisker 10. If it's anything like that then I can't wait to buy a bottle of Kilkerran then!
