Excellent tutorial. I have, along with a lot of friends, have just started making our own bread. This will be a great gift for me to make them. Thanks for sharing this post.
I bake all of our bread and would love to try this! I assume they would need to be kind of sanitized, with no scented soap. What do you suggest to wash them in? Thank you! That's a very good tutorial.
Thank you so much! I wash my fabric prior to sewing, and then of course after use, in my homemade laundry soap, but you could use unscented soap or even hand wash them in Castile soap. Please let me know if you have any other questions :)
Should the linen or cotton materials be organic? Ive had people ask me to make these, (both bread bags & beeswax bags) and all the research I find is conflicting. Any input or advice is greatly appreciated Thanks ;)
It's really a matter of preference. I don't use organic simply because it's too expensive, but if it's something you're really passionate about, you could. The way I view it is that it's still better than using plastic. And to take it an extra step, I like to wrap my bread in a beeswax wrap, which helps keep the bread even longer and adds that layer of protection.
So after you've sewn your sides and flipped it right side out, there should be a natural fold where it's not sewn. You can see this at timestamp 00:06:53. Then you fold down the top 1/2" then down to that 2" mark. Then you sew the channel and the ends where you feed the tie into will be finished. Sometimes I've had it where the inner seam pushes out and I just push it back in with a blunt object. I hope that makes sense but please let me know if you have any other questions!
The best way I've found to keep my bread from getting hard is to wrap it in a beeswax wrap first, then place it in either a linen bread bag or a plastic bread bag. The beeswax wraps makes a HUGE difference I've noticed.
@@thesimplehomeplace I’ll try this tx… just disappointed that demonstrator didn’t say this after showing how to make linen bag…just said great way to store bread was in linen bag
I'd create the channel before hand. Turn down the tops and then sew the side seams. Can you coat this bag with bees wax and avoid having to wrap and insert. Thank you!
That's a great idea; I never thought to make them that way! You can coat the bag in beeswax if you'd like, although I haven't tried it yet. I'd probably do that after you sew it though.
@@flgirl250 I don't know for sure since I haven't tried it, but I'd probably turn it inside out then apply the beeswax mixture. I have a tutorial on how to make your own beeswax wraps so you could use that recipe on the bag. Again, I've never tried it, but I'm sure there are tutorials out there to do it. thesimplehomeplace.com/how-to-make-reusable-beeswax-food-wraps/
I haven't tried it yet, but would like to try sometime soon! I just use a beeswax wrap to wrap my homemade bread before adding it to the bag right now :)

Great instructions, thank,you
You're welcome! I'm glad they were helpful :)
simple and beautiful. ❤❤❤❤
thank you so much!
what are the measurements of the bag once cut, before any sewing being done? I know 13" wide but how long? Thank you!
13" wide by 30" long, then once it's folded in half the measurements will be 13" wide by 15" long. Hope that makes sense!
@@thesimplehomeplace absolutely!! Thank you!!

what did I miss? I just sewed the top channel but both ends where the tie goes in are unfinished. How did you just get the one solid channel?

Ive heard that linen bags still dont keep bread from being hard…is there something i am missing to help keep bread soft and fresh???

Will this fit a boule?
Yes 100% with extra room!

Have you ever turned your bags into beeswax bags

Your Amazon link for linen fabric is NOT linen fabric. It is cotton fabric. So, you are not making linen bags, you ate making cotton bags.
@@lindahammond249 I’ll have to fix it then because the bags in the video are made of linen I purchased from Hobby Lobby. Thanks for letting me know!
This comment seems unnecessarily aggressive lol
