  • Seventeen-year-old Sophie Kloppenburg fought to rectify an injustice, 144 years after the lynching of seven Black men outside a Posey County, Indiana, courthouse. Correspondent Steve Hartman talked with the high school senior who demanded a remembrance for a terrible crime - and succeeded.

If it’s important to remember unpleasant things, then why all across the country monuments are removed? All history is important! Unpleasant monuments provoke thought , conversation & education. It isn’t whether you agree or disagree! It’s how you move forward.

One of the murdered men, Daniel Harrison, Jr. has his name misspelled on the memorial bench. It is spelled Harris, should be Harrison.
Can be googled to see the bench. Klopperman...Jewish name? Usually concerned with social justice issues.
Would love to see the name of the book, that was hidden behind a furnace, about this horrific, horrifying crime.....needs to become more well known, maybe even a movie about it. Along the lines of the Emmett Till story.
The Harrison family really took a hit that day, with three of their men being murdered.....two sons and their father....oh my.....

About Episode 44: I totally agree with history, no matter how painful, should be remembered so it will never be repeated. But why is that fact applauded for a fraction of the American people. Therefore, no statue should be torn down, no place should be renamed, no history rewritten for any reason. Sooo who is going to pay to have history replaced that has been torn down the last few years. What is right for one is right for ALL.

@@youreaquickone Exactly! The vast majority of Civil War statutes weren't erected until long after the war was over and many were put up in direct response to opposition of the Civil Rights Movement. It was also an attempt to reshape the narrative of what the Civil War was really about and push a segregationist agenda under the guise of "preserving Southern Heritage."
