@Dennis Conrad Thanks for doing the maths, I was going to do it myself (glad I checked the comments first). I always work out the price per 100g/100ml when shopping, I usually check the % of fruit/veg/meat as well. That's how you find what the true value is.
These are my favourite kind of reviews, thanks Gareth! Btw, the Bramwells definitely has a bit of paprika in it and maybe a tiny bit of turmeric and cumin. It really balances the acidity.
You’re really going all out on this one, I’m excited to find out the results! Can’t believe you jus ate it by the spoonful tho, thought you’d knock up sum chips! Hope it hasn’t made you feel sick!! 🙈 Appreciate your sacrifice for the good of your red-sauce-loving audience!!!
I like the Bramwells. Never noticed the spiciness before so will look out for that now. Great content as always. Will try to catch the live stream Fri. Take care. Love from Liverpool
I like the Pudliszki Mild Tomato Ketchup 480g £1.15 (24.0p/100g) from asda polish food selection. It has just a touch of chilli which really brings out all the flavours i like in ketchup. I'll also throw in Winiary Mayonnaise Majonez 400ml £1.60 (40.0p/100ml) as my preffered mayo, it has flavour like the polish/german/dutch mayo which i like and mixed with the Pudliszki Mild Tomato Ketchup makes a great burger sauce base. Take care, God bless one and all.
Hi Gareth another great saucey challenge I think it all depends on personal taste and of course pennies we like aldi bramwells brown for dave and red for me, there bramwells pickle is tasty too both Branston and piccalilli and tartar sauce and they are not really expensive,
Love your channel, so relaxing to watch after a long day in the office. Your warmth and happiness is great. 47 year old fan here, hi from Erith in Kent. "This is, that" a good catch phrase
What I like doing is opening up the lid and putting a small spoon full of baking soda inside the Ketchup then shaking it up and closing the lid for 2 minutes. Give it a try makes the flavour so much better.
Hi Gareth. I love this vid! My fave ketchups are Co-op and Sainsburys own brands, glad you found yours. May I suggest for the future, brown sauce, mayo. and salad cream comparisons. Thanks for going this. 😋
Must say my latest 'find' and for the time being my go-to tom sauce and the bbq and brown- is from the De Luxe range from Lidl - I think it was 89p or 99p for a 280g bottle - similar in appearance to your posh brand on display. Tremendous tomato FLAVOUR. Consistency has a very slightly 'grainy' texture as though the puree has been pressed through a sieve - leaving the max amount of the tomato fruit IN the mixture. I can imagine it being made from an Italian Granny's kitchen. We also like Heinz, Daddies, Co-Op and I used to get the Adsa standard version. The rest are like coloured vinegar!
Personally I think that Bramwells is the best for tomato sauce, but they haven't been stocking it in my local Aldi's recently and they're not selling it online either. I'm starting to think they may have discontinued it. Hope not though.
You’ve sparked some nostalgia with that daddies sauce! I remember it as brown sauce tho, which I haven’t had in ages but might have a look for sum next time I’m at the shops! Remind me of the good old days haha
Yes Daddies brown sauce is No.1 in my books, tried loads of others but nothing comes close im my humble opinion, Asda sell the large one for £1.50 but B&M sell it for £1 so I always buy at least 3 each time 😊
I used to be a brand snob until a few years ago and would always go for Heinz but since trying Tescos Stockwell I've switched because the difference is minimal and for the price it wins hands down, I can buy nearly 5x Stockwell for the price of 1x Heinz and I can't tell the difference unless they are side by side.
I can also recommend the cheap M&S tommy sauce! Heinz did used to do a "posh" sauce, but sadly was discontinued around 2008. I remember when I worked at ASDA HQ, it was reduced to 50p in store, so I did stock up. I will be giving the Co-op and the Sauce Shop a try too! Thanks for this Gareth, best wishes from Yorkshire!!
Cheers Gareth great review mate, We have the Bramwells at home usually, Seems to be nice whatever it goes with.you commented on the spice in it , That’s funny because I know a lot of Indian takeaways use tomato sauce as an ingredient to make chicken tikka masala. The one you mentioned when you was a kid reminds me of those yellow hot dog vans years ago after the pub , Hot dog or Burger with cheese , Fried onions, and those big tomato sauce bottles, just like the sauce you had . Ps I don’t think you will need to buy any sauce for a while lol 🍅🍅🍅see you on the next one ☝️👍👍🍻🍻🍻👍👍🍻
Bramwells ketchup is good, but their mayo is excellent - easily as good as Hellman's. Hoping you do a test of those too. I didn't like Asda's own mayo at all.
Haha! You can make homemade BBQ sauce, use it I'm recipes like on meatloaf and goulash and sloppy Joe's, hold a community BBQ hotdogs and burgers for your neighbors....the possibilities are endless lol
I grew up on Heinz tomato ketchup, but having watched the "Eat well for less" programmes on the BBC I gave the Sainsbury's equivalent a go to see how it compared. I was pleasantly surprised considering it costs considerably less than the Heinz, so now I only buy the Sainsbury's. I've tried their own label brown sauce and salad cream too and now buy those exclusively.
Yeah, I haven't bought Heinz tomato ketchup for years. I do buy Heinz Curry Sauce, though. It's far better than Tesco's version for making a Currywurst German-style. The Heinz one, however, is only available at Sainsbury's near me. Get genuine (made in Germany) Bratwurst from Lidl if you've got one.
Same here I think pre own brand days we all grew up on Heinz tomato ketchup, but its not cheap at more than double the price of supermarket own brand. Personally i prefer Daddies red sauce too Heinz, and its cheaper.
@@SuperLittleTyke yeh the Lidl Bratwurst are beautiful. Like you said with Tesco curry sauce for currywurst is lovely. Like in Germany i sprinkle a bit of curry powder over the sauce as well.
@@SuperLittleTyke agree 100%. the aldi/lidl bratwursts are fantastic. I think aldi and lidl designed their ketchups for the german pallatte to go with these...german sausage has a lot more meat and slightly different seasoning.
because we both from Cumbria we can't try waitrose but I never knew to you done this video that daddies make tomato sauce I got their brown sauce which I've eaten since I was a kid so keep up the good work and thanks for information cheers mate
Hi Gareth. Thanks for another informative review. Plenty of ketchup for your chips now mate. Lol. Going by price, size of bottle and taste and of course your facial reaction, I'd say the Aldi one is the best value. I've been buying the Bramwell one for a while now and it's great. . In terms of value.. the Aldi one is cheapest on that list because you get 650g. So with the cost of living crisis that's the best sauce to get on a budget.
Hi Gareth, as always yet another brilliant vid, as several times recently, you have shown that expensive is not always best, will be trying the branwells in the next couple of days on your recommendation, as i have just done with the cheapo beans and sausage that frankly, tasted no different to the Newgate in LIDL, and no different to Heinz 👍👍👍👍

We refill our Bramwells bottle, the same as our Salad cream and use it on burgers, sausage, hot dogs, pizza and chips. More good wishes to you, we tried Tesco and NO ONE RATED IT. It was thrown out. All the best Don, Phannee and the boys
I love your comparison videos, please do a video for soups as my wife recently tricked me into eating Aldi’s tomato soup and I honestly thought it was my favourite brand Heinz. We are now switching. Would love to know your opinion on soups. Dean
@@Facts4Fun1 I bought Aldi's tomato soup on the strength of Gareth's video and it's really good! In fact I'm just off to Aldi's so I'll get some for lunch!
Love the video ! , Gotta a question where did you buy the Daddies tomato sauce from ? - as can't seem to find it where i live in South Gloucestershire.
Vinegary I can't stand! The brands we usually have are Lidl & Tesco. Heinz is a brand I avoid regardless of the product, they are massively overpriced (in my opinion) but, as you say, it depends on the individual's taste and perhaps on their ability not to worry how much things cost! Good video.
I find it's an eternal quest finding the best ketchup! I did always buy Co Op at one stage but my local Co Op closed. I bought Bramwell's last week. Not bad but a bit thin. My main criticism is that most ketchups are too sweet and not tangy enough for me. The sweetest I ever tasted was Tiptree's. Tiptree are known for their jam and that's what it was like! Tomato jam!! So sweet even my niece (who was 3 at the time) didn't like it! My favourite ever was Branston's which used to be sold in Poundstretcher but I haven't seen for years. I'd be interested to hear if anyone's seen Branston's recently.
I used to love Branston ketchup but it was as rare as hens teeth. I think they've actually discontinued it now, so I tend to buy Bramwells. It's not quite as nice as Heinz but it's about 1/4 of the price, and I'm more of a mayo person anyway
@@PotatoPirate123 Yes, me too with the mayo! That's the other eternal quest and then I found it. Sainsbury's French style mayonnaise! Then guess what? They don't seem to sell it anymore! I even tried making my own mayo and....not worth the effort!
@@nickhirst999 if you buy Dijon mustard and mayo from Aldi (or wherever) you just need to stir in a bit of Dijon. That's all french mayo is. You can mix it together on the bread if you want to save on pots.
Great video as always Gareth. For me it's got to be the Aldi / bramwells. { although I must admit, I haven't tried a lot on your list, including the most expensive } all I know is the Aldi is awesome when it comes to cutting slightly burnt Asda extra special pork sausage up and dipping the pieces into the sauce, and then scooping up a bit of mashed potatoe and a tiny bit of Apple sauce { made with Bramley apples Yum Yum). When it comes to brown sauce it's always always always got to be daddies. Only problem is I don't seem to be able to source any at the moment. No pun intended of - sauce, I mean of - course 😂. See what I did there? 😂
My favorite is Tesco Stockwell tomato sauce. It`s very cheap, but has a great taste. It`s like the ketchup you get at the fair ground burger van, or the old style golden egg , greasy spoon. Has a higher vinegar taste.
Gareth obviously everyone loves Heinz especially my other half. She was brought up with a silver spoon 😂 your videos are slowly working in her. Keep it going. What makes me laugh when we are abroad the other half will eat anything especially if it’s of sunbathing temperatures
Great vlog Gareth your vlogs are so useful and interesting love them. As new I am watching all your oldies. I usually buy Heinz ketchup but its getting so expensive lately so I tried Marks and Spencer a lot cheaper and really nice. Lots of the well known brands are getting far to expensive. You doing the taste tests are really great.
Another great vid, thanks. My Wife will have nothing but Heinz ketchup....Ive tried! Will you have a look/taste of custard tarts? Tesco, Morrisons, Co-op & M & S. They are all made by Park Cakes on the same machine! All the best.....
Aldi puts Dill in the ketchup - which is a continental trick. Personal opinion Aldi/Lidl/Coop are all good. Heinz is ok, as is one you didn't test Hellmans - the rest you can keep because they are either silly price or not particularly nice. Taking into account the price I'd take the Aldi.
May I suggest you try Hellman's ketchup if you have not already. I too had tried so many own brands but none lived up to heinz until I found the Hellman's. It's also a third of the price of heinz too in Tesco.
There sure are a lot of brands out there. Most taste roughly the same but some stand out a bit more from the crowd. I have Daddies in the cupboard and I wondered if you would comment on the vinegary flavour. You did, so I know it wasn't just me. Going by the brands you've just tasted I would probably go for the Co-op. It's not too big a bottle and is reasonably priced. Anyway, that was entertaining. Nice one Gareth 👍
Got to admit I was a stickler for Heinz for a long time, trying to find offers as it is always pricier, but eventually resorted to Aldi's own brand which isn't far off taste-wise (at least the kids don't care and cheaper!) - I used to think non-Heinz tasted really sour like the nasty stuff that caterers have, but it seems the budget brands have caught up...
I went from heinz to asda smart price and couldn't tell the difference. I sometimes buy the bramwells aswell. I find that you don't have to shake the cheap ones before use unlike heinz.
Cor, what a marathon! I only buy Aldi Bramwells. If not available, then Tesco Stockwells. Today Aldi had more gaps on the shelves. No squeezy mayonnaise, just jars. I was actually looking for the garlic mayonnaise you like. They didn't have it. Also no sunflower or rapeseed oil, only olive oil.
Probably daddies from your selection but have you ever tried MAYOR TOMATO KETCHUP 🍅? It was sold in asda and I really can't stop using it on everything. 😆
Interesting and informative video Gareth, as usual. Heinz for me every time. Not sure if you realise what the connotation of exclaiming "We have a squirter!" is. Google it, but it's very saucy 🤣
I really like the COOP one, but as it wasn't available I tried Sainsbury. I don't like much from Sainsbury but the sauce is really good. Its dark, thick strong & NOT sweet. So either are good to me but if you want sweet, go elsewhere are these two are not.
Was the spice cumin and maybe celery salt! I use Heinz I have very sharp tastebuds and this makes me fussy. Also it’s sweetness helps in a lot of recipes I put it in cottage pie as well as brown sauce and a dash of Worcester Sauce and it comes out a treat!
'Pudliszki' ketchup is worth having a try, several of the supermarkets are now stocking it. Less 'sugary' than the others, with a celery/spicy/tang, depending on which one you buy. Different form ordinary red-stuff, it has more flavour.
Ok…time of writing at approx 2 mins in… curious to know if the Bramwells is close to the Heinz taste?…if so… I’ll be making a detour to Aldi…. It’s nearly twice as far to walk for me…that may take me an extra hour and an extra three hours to walk back… is it worth the time spent on my delicate feet?…
Like a couple of other posters have said I am a little surprised that you didn't treat yourself to some chips, I quite like the Wimpy ketchup and you can buy it from Wimpy restaurants. We mostly buy a ketchup that has reduced sugar and salts and they're fine.

I love your comparison videos, please do a video for soups as my wife recently tricked me into eating Aldi’s tomato soup and I honestly thought it was my favourite brand Heinz. We are now switching. Would love to know your opinion on soups. Dean
I've done soups look in my playlist comparison
My bad, I forgot about the soup one, I watched it a while ago. Memory must be going. Cheers mate.
@@Facts4Fun1 I bought Aldi's tomato soup on the strength of Gareth's video and it's really good! In fact I'm just off to Aldi's so I'll get some for lunch!
Wow.
Love the video ! , Gotta a question where did you buy the Daddies tomato sauce from ? - as can't seem to find it where i live in South Gloucestershire.
Iceland Andy
@@BaldFoodieGuy thank you.
Vinegary I can't stand! The brands we usually have are Lidl & Tesco. Heinz is a brand I avoid regardless of the product, they are massively overpriced (in my opinion) but, as you say, it depends on the individual's taste and perhaps on their ability not to worry how much things cost! Good video.
Cheers
If you like tangy you’ll love the M&S one. 👍
@@racingspoon That's one I've never tried. I'll give it a go, thanks!
Thank you you're welcome
A few weeks ago lidls had reduced they're deluxe ketchup to 53p it's not bad. I don't eat a lot of ketchup, so the smaller bottle is ok for me
My favorite is Tesco Stockwell tomato sauce. It`s very cheap, but has a great taste. It`s like the ketchup you get at the fair ground burger van, or the old style golden egg , greasy spoon. Has a higher vinegar taste.
Cheers pal 👍👍
The sauce shop one is one of my faves. Also try the Rubies in the Rubble ketchup if you haven’t already. It’s available in Morrison’s 🍅
cheers pal
Gareth obviously everyone loves Heinz especially my other half. She was brought up with a silver spoon 😂 your videos are slowly working in her. Keep it going. What makes me laugh when we are abroad the other half will eat anything especially if it’s of sunbathing temperatures
haha yes we were all brought up on them, all the best, both
Are there all from the uk
A ketchup marathon if I ever saw one.
Pucker up!
Great video.
I love the comparison videos,useful!
thanks 😊
The cheapest one in any of the supermarkets is what I buy as it is silly paying several times more. I would've felt a bit sick trying all those.
Glad you like them!
Thanks for doing this. Been wondering what the best is for a while.
thanks 😊
Another great vid, thanks. My Wife will have nothing but Heinz ketchup....Ive tried! Will you have a look/taste of custard tarts? Tesco, Morrisons, Co-op & M & S. They are all made by Park Cakes on the same machine! All the best.....
Great suggestion! thanks Michael.
Co-Op is my nearest shop so I've had their sauce numerous times. It always goes everywhere, everytime you use it. Great vid as always 👍
Co-op's own brand is very good quite pricey but not quite as expensive as M/S but their food is top notch
Aldi puts Dill in the ketchup - which is a continental trick. Personal opinion Aldi/Lidl/Coop are all good. Heinz is ok, as is one you didn't test Hellmans - the rest you can keep because they are either silly price or not particularly nice. Taking into account the price I'd take the Aldi.
heinz went right down hill when they started reducing the sugar and salt. Lidl bang on.
Lidl bang on for most stuff especially their pizzas and knock off cornetto
Fantastic review 🙌 I’ve tried so many, but always come back to Heinz. It’s a very personal choice, none are wrong. All down to individual choice.
Cheers Mick
Still trying to catch up😟 Jesus, how many posts have you done? I’m about 120k behind.🤪
May I suggest you try Hellman's ketchup if you have not already. I too had tried so many own brands but none lived up to heinz until I found the Hellman's. It's also a third of the price of heinz too in Tesco.
Great review mate B&M 50p best ketchup I've had
Nice one!
Love these comparisons. Anyone remember the Goodies bun fight at the Ok tea rooms 😁
haha goodies class series.
Heinz will always be the best. Red sauce and beans, the two things they are the best at and always will be.
Nice one Gareth 👍
cheers Steve yes quite liked it took me back to chips on the prom at morcambe lol
Got to admit I do like daddies, Iceland seems to be the only place that sells it these days.
This was great! Could you do a mass mushy pea comparison please?
Can't beat making your own though. Tastes so much better.
thanks 😊
Got to admit I was a stickler for Heinz for a long time, trying to find offers as it is always pricier, but eventually resorted to Aldi's own brand which isn't far off taste-wise (at least the kids don't care and cheaper!) - I used to think non-Heinz tasted really sour like the nasty stuff that caterers have, but it seems the budget brands have caught up...
cheers pal
I went from heinz to asda smart price and couldn't tell the difference. I sometimes buy the bramwells aswell. I find that you don't have to shake the cheap ones before use unlike heinz.
yes fair point pal
Cor, what a marathon! I only buy Aldi Bramwells. If not available, then Tesco Stockwells. Today Aldi had more gaps on the shelves. No squeezy mayonnaise, just jars. I was actually looking for the garlic mayonnaise you like. They didn't have it. Also no sunflower or rapeseed oil, only olive oil.
The Essentials Waitrose would surprise you, only 80p but tastes just like Heinz, not vinegary like the cheap stuff.
You liked the consistency of that a little too much for my tastes 😂 6:50 but in seriousness another great video.
Glad you enjoyed
Probably daddies from your selection but have you ever tried MAYOR TOMATO KETCHUP 🍅? It was sold in asda and I really can't stop using it on everything. 😆
We've changed to Aldi a couple of years ago and won't go back to Heinz.
Wife & I love your videos!
Have you tried Aldi's Salmon Wellington (salmon en croute)? In our opinion the best ready meal ever!
cheers will look at that one
Personal preference at the end of t’day, I am by no means a big brand snob but do always seem to come back to Heinz red and HP brown.
Yep
Bramwells in my favorite at the mo, it is slightly spicy and really tangy.
i have tried the Aldi Bramwells, its great and its now kicked the Heinz out, so thanks for that :)
Lidl used to do a Kania Brand tomato sauce and it was gorgeous. Haven't tried what they sell now.
Interesting and informative video Gareth, as usual. Heinz for me every time. Not sure if you realise what the connotation of exclaiming "We have a squirter!" is. Google it, but it's very saucy 🤣
haha yes mate 🤣
@@BaldFoodieGuy 🤣🤣🤣
I really like the COOP one, but as it wasn't available I tried Sainsbury. I don't like much from Sainsbury but the sauce is really good. Its dark, thick strong & NOT sweet. So either are good to me but if you want sweet, go elsewhere are these two are not.
Was the spice cumin and maybe celery salt! I use Heinz I have very sharp tastebuds and this makes me fussy. Also it’s sweetness helps in a lot of recipes I put it in cottage pie as well as brown sauce and a dash of Worcester Sauce and it comes out a treat!
Can't remember now sorry.
@@BaldFoodieGuy no matter they do sneak cumin in all sorts of things it is that spice in most shop bought curries that makes it taste slightly bitter.
'Pudliszki' ketchup is worth having a try, several of the supermarkets are now stocking it. Less 'sugary' than the others, with a celery/spicy/tang, depending on which one you buy. Different form ordinary red-stuff, it has more flavour.
Cheers yes I've got some, I feature it in my latest video 👍👍
Can you do a brown brown sauce taste test sometime next
Ok…time of writing at approx 2 mins in… curious to know if the Bramwells is close to the Heinz taste?…if so… I’ll be making a detour to Aldi…. It’s nearly twice as far to walk for me…that may take me an extra hour and an extra three hours to walk back… is it worth the time spent on my delicate feet?…
Also curious to know, coming from another, which of the Heinz tastes better…out of the glass bottle or out of the plastic bottle?
easy to get out of a plastic bottle
@@BaldFoodieGuy … good point!
Like a couple of other posters have said I am a little surprised that you didn't treat yourself to some chips, I quite like the Wimpy ketchup and you can buy it from Wimpy restaurants. We mostly buy a ketchup that has reduced sugar and salts and they're fine.
Yep, that is great advice, the reduced sugar/salt have more tomato content.
Did you wash the spoon to prevent contamination?
I get the Tesco no added sugar one. Not everyone's cup of tea, but I like it.
Aldi without a doubt 🇬🇧
Thanks 😋👌
What about brown sauce for men?
