My cousin knows I am into all things vintage and he gave me a Petri FT camera. Using DSLRs all my life I had no intent of getting into film photography until this came into my possession. My Petri looks like it is in good shape, I just bought film and batteries for it and I hope it actually works.
Bought my Petri FT whilst serving at RAF Muharraq in 1969 and it's still in my camera collection. My first SLR camera and it still works well although not used a great deal!
I have a perti TTL slr and I have to say, I love it. Not just because it was my first film camera but I also love the ergonomics of the shutter button as well as the durability(i couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve dropped mine)
Great Video!! I have An FT ee (Same Lens Mount) and I want to buy more lenses than the 50mm it came with, But I'm unsure of the name of the Lens Mount... Obviously it's not M42.. So what Lenses should I be searching for??
With all due respect, this camera did not exist during the Korean war (1950-1953). It could well have been around during the Vietnam war. One could say it had been through the "Korean War" only in the sense that there was never a treaty signed and technically a state of war still exists between North and South Korea. Very nice review on a camera with a very interesting history, so thank you for that.
There is a possibility that the slides may have come from the Kodak retina that was owned by the grandfather as well. Sadly, the slides are not labeled with which camera it was taken by so I could have made the mistake in thinking the Petri was used at that time. I will work on making sure my facts line up for future reviews
I once owned a Petri FT. I liked the ergonomics of the camera, and the breachmount lens mount was a good design. Unfortunately, it was not a particularly successful camera commercially speaking and had only a limited range of lenses available. Also, it has a poor reputation for reliability.
Im about to get a Petri FT, cause my spotmatic doesnt have an everyday lens, the petri is cheaper than a pentax lens. I have to get use to that shutter, or mod that petri to an m42 mount. Great review, thanks for not alienating the camera.
I am using the MTL 5B and it is nice. The shutter is very loud and the viewfinder is very dark but i like it because I was born in the city it was produced in:D I also have the Praktica IV but it is without lightmeter. I love the MTL series and I think it is iconic for Praktica:)
Petri had horrible reliability issues ! - The worst being the early serial number Petri FT models like the one in this video. Among other things, these had a 'camshaft' advance system - Really wacky and generally regarded as a dumb design...

That's awesome! That's a nice piece of history right there

“i think people should see photos”. damn that’s deep.
I liked your slideshow...you should do more "drunk slideshow review" videos :-)
Once I start shooting more slide film I will!
Cool...im looking forward to it! Cheers!
Where can I get a battery replacement for this : )
You should be able to find one online or at your local Walgreens
Took mine to a camera store and he put a battery in it v625u

The Petri uses a proprietary breech lock mount so you have to find other Petri lenses to use with it
