    Yes! The Minolta Hi-Matic AF2! That's the camera that my mom used from when I was 5 to in my 20s. I ended up buying one in 2022 and love it.

    Solid list, entertaining content as usual! I can't give the Nikon L35AF series enough praise, my L35AF2 comes with me on every trip (regardless of the other gear I bring). So many memories created already in the past couple of years with it!

    The Nikkormat (especially the silver one, which appears to be cheaper) is a great low-price SLR with extremely good build quality, and the best ergonomics I've personally ever see on an SLR styled camera. The lenses might pull someone a little over budget but there are lots of options.

      Excellent suggestion. If I go to a camera swap I can usually get one for $10-$15 and then go find an aftermarket 28-80mm zoom for $20.
      If you go to the wrong part of town and leave a Nikkor 50mm on your seat with the window down a little, you’ll come back a few hours later and there will be 3 Nikkormats on the seat next to the lens.

    Plastic fantastic 90s to 00s autofocus film SLRs that resemble their digital counterparts Nikon N80, Minolta Maxxum5, various Canon EOS are really good deals for what you can get out of them. Bonus points if you already have the lenses, its a cheap accompanying film body to compliment them.

    Funny you mention the Canon FTb! I just picked up one (well, an FTb QL) to have a 100% mechanical alternative to my AE-1 Program using the same glass. Great machine, just had to put new light seals on mine, and I also added a diode to the light meter so I can use 1.5 volt batteries

    • @danieljimenez1989
      @danieljimenez1989 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I also have the FTb QL, do you have a link for the diode mod?

    • @Ybalrid
      @Ybalrid หลายเดือนก่อน

      There’s a video on TH-cam where it is done to a Canon TX. It’s similar on the FTb. The wire you want to insert a diode into is the one on the bottom lug on the left of the camera near the battery compartment. I used a 1N34A. Before the mod the meter would want to under expose by around 2.5 stops when using an LR44 battery in a little adapter. Now it is very close to the reading of my Sekonic, just slightly off. Good enough for me. It’s not the most precise match needle meter ever in all cases

    Just got to the Minolta Hi-Matic AF2 and shed a tear. This was my mother-in-law's camera, which she used both for family snapshots and when sightseeing and photographing with us ... for at least 20 years. Now she's passed away, and we have the camera, which is suffering from an intermittent contact in the power circuit somewhere (probably around that pop-up flash). To get it fixed, I'd have to send it away, and I'm not sure my wife would allow that.

    Didn’t even talk about the plastic fantastic 90s consumer SLRs like Canon EOS 3000 or Pentax mx/mz50? Come on these are fantastic cameras for dirt cheap easy to use pretty decent looking gear.

    My wife has a canon sure shot zoom 85. Running a roll of film through it to see if it still functions properly. Might be a little more than $50 but I like it’s form/function of shooting it.

    A good month ago I bought the Sigma Mark 1 including a zoom lens and leather photo bag for 30€ including shipping. The camera works perfectly. If you don't know the camera, it's the first Sigma camera ever and a direct copy of the Ricoh Singlex TLS. Another camera that is basically a relabelled Ricoh Singlex TLS for the American market would be the Sears T-L-S. The Sigma is normally found between 30 and 70€ and is purely mechanical except for the TTL light meter and is a real metal tank.
    Praktica and Revue / Revueflex, or Zenit have already been suggested to you, then there would be Porst, Chinon or Topcon, where you can definitely get one or the other model under 50 € or even under 50 $. It's definitely worth looking.
    Greetings from Germany

    Some that I feel really could make the list are the canon rebel 2000 and some of the minolta maxxum line... I see them quite often with at least one lens for under $50
    Also electro 35s are hard to find working... Most being sold under $50 are completely untested because it's someone who found one in the attic and they aren't gonna spend money getting a battery or battery adapter... I have three and two are electrically dead and the one with working electronics was broken in shipping

    Most of these cameras I haven't used but I will vouch for the ME super, I own better featured film cameras but I have one of the MEs in silver and I love the way it feels in hand and shoots. It's not fully manual, though you can use manual mode, however I'd say it's better than the K1000, since the secret is getting out on those while the ME super remains reasonable. It's a teriffic feeling compact 35 with an immensely big and bright viewfinder and the more basic pentax lenses are plenty cheap.

    Normally as an alternative to the Pentax 1000 I would recommend the Olympus alarm 2000 which is actually made by Cosina but it can use the Owen Mount lenses. The cheapest ones I found on eBay were $49. It can function without the battery but it lacks a PC sync port for flash. Considering it's not a true Olympus I don't think that camera is really worth what people are selling it for. There were other versions under other brand names that would use those companies respective lenses.

      I've got two of them, the L35AF2 and L35AF3, I paid $10 for the first one, and $30 for the AF3. If you look hard enough, deals come up locally. I've seen people thrift them too. I highly recommend this, or the Canon counterpart, the AF35M & AF35ML!
