Thank you both for being so frank and sharing all your information…… very interesting and I guess your spreadsheet helped you keep on track. I bet there’ll be a lot of your viewers (including us) going over your facts and figures and wondering if it would work for them/us. Congratulations 👏 🎉 You deserve another weekend away!
I see you have both decided to take a break from more TH-cam videos and dedicate more time to each other and just enjoying your life in Sanur, which is awesome. This video is enlightening, a full cost breakdown, but obviously including a lot of one off expenses which wont come year on year. I say good on you, and how lucky you both are to have got to this point where you can enjoy this amazing experience in your lives. Enjoy the beautiful villa surrounds you have created (damn, less than $100 at the garden centre, in NZ you would be lucky to get a single ornamental plant for that). I was not a subscriber however did love your TH-cam posts. All the best.
Another wonderful vlog, thanks for being so transparent with costs. Love watching all your videos and look forward to the next one! Keep enjoying living your best life in beautiful Sanur 💖
Thank you for sharing information about your costs. It's personal information but it's really interesting and very helpful. Keep enjoying beautiful Sanur :)
Hi guys, found you just after Christmas and we’re getting through and 👍 your videos and information. The more we watch, the more interested we are to living your life. We come to Bali 2-3 times a year in the Kuta area and we’ll have to explore Sanur in August. Thanks again and you’ll never know 😊
I’ve just stumbled across you guys. Loved the thoughtful breakdown of all your costs. You two work so well together 😊 Definitely given me some new ideas about my retirement.
You guys have really done your research and saved so much per year . It’s a wonderful set up that you have there and really has paid off . Well done to you 😊😊
Sweet video! I love how you two did this together. I think it will really be helpful to people who are looking for this kind of info. No way two people could live this lifestyle in Australia on a budget like that…
So very interesting and I have to say, I was intrigued at how well you two have set up such a good life for yourselves. You appear to be well advised and because you are both so very confident you have carved out such a beautiful and brilliant lifestyle….. even annual 40,000 is in my estimation very very reasonable when you look at the big picture… I now have a ballpark number to estimate what it would cost nowadays to have a leap of faith… yes it may cost less for me for this and that, but it may cost more for other “incidentals” that I never considered….. Spread sheet “control” gives peace of mind that’s for sure…. May I thank you so much for sharing such valuable real insight into persistent Bali “wannabe’s” dreamer like myself
Thank you both so much for not only sharing all this information, but for taking the time to keep such detailed records. So interesting and also gives many of us so much more idea of what to consider if we are having any thoughts of making the move. 😊. Definitely get rid of the cricket though...that's another few coffees 😂. 😉
€ 24,000 per yr!! someone slap me up the head and shake me. What am I doing here in the cold. Patience is a virtue... I'll keep planning. I'm glad you're so happy with your new life. Enjoy, you both deserve it.🎉❤🎉
Thanks for the video and openness. My wife and I love Bali and are starting to look into potentially living in Bali for 3-6 months a year and are gathering as much info as possible. We are actually coming to Sanur in Late December for a holiday and are going to check out the area and get some insights into living in Bali. Would love to catchup for a drink and chat
We’re pleased our video could help you in your info gathering! Touch base in December… we’re happy to share any knowledge we’ve gained from our few years of being in Sanur
Hey folks, thanks for the informative video. I'm also looking at retiring in Bali, but before I go and study you're spreadsheets, let me just say I think you are both well better off than most of us, and it's not going to matter where you live. They way you look and connect with each other is worth more than any Rupiah or Aussie dollar savings that I know of. All the best for the future for you two, and look forward to having a Bintang on the beach with you one day.
Thanks for sharing guys, very informative. After visiting Bali over 30 times I stayed in Sanur for the first time in November and absolutely LOVED it ❤ Can’t wait to stay again next month.
Thanks for sharing so much of your life, I’m sure many people must appreciate your efforts. I’m back in Sanur in 5 weeks & 1 day. Hopefully bump into you in grand lucky maybe. Baz
What a wonderful life to live, your videos are so enjoyable. My wife and I watched all of them before arriving on holiday here on the 8th Jan. We stayed in Seminyak with family for 10 days and explored from there before arriving in Sanur on the 18th. We are here for 5 nights but thinking of spending our last 4 nights here too as we love Sanur. We are staying south Sanur and might head up north for the last 4 days. Beach day today watching live music which is staged near Genius Cafe and get some sea swimming in, can't believe we've only swam in pools so far apart from a snorkel trip in Nusa Dua. Anyway, keep up the awesome videos, they are informative, humorous and inspiring.
Today John and I had lunch in the Hunter Valley Wine Region near where we live $220 for the 2 of us! A few of beers at $15 each 2 mains and 2 desserts.
Awesome vlog guys .... many thanks for the extensive detail that you provided. This is perfectly timed as well as we will be in your neck of the woods in a couple of months "house hunting" for our retirement .... and our plan is pretty much exactly along the lines of how your life in Bali has unfolded so far. Hopefully we can meet up when we get there .... but we will contact you separately about that as the date gets closer. Again .... many thanks and Cheers 😎.
Well done guys, such an informative video, makes us all think about a life change in beautiful Sanur, thanks again for sharing, best regards Denise and Wayne
Ive had about 5 skin cancers removed surgically in bali and only paid 2 million each op . I also had a new top denture and bottom bridge 5 tooth cost 5 million for denture n 2 million for bridge I also only pay 50.000 for a massage. The cost of living in Bali IS ALL ABOUT WHERE YOU LIVE: .

groceries are still 50 % cheaper than uk. Me, I'm calculating that rent monthly! OMG my rent in UK for a tiny 1.5 bed flat is £850 no garden or pool. And it goes up yearly. Freezing weather a lot so we have to pay gas heating as well as electricty. My combined bill last month was £180 GBP. Internet is £50 per month. Council tax £120 monthly. Gym £29 per month. Trouble is, I don't think us Brits can get our state pension in Bali
You saved a lot of money getting the long lease. I was just watching another Australian retired couple looking at 2 and 3 bedroom villas around Sanur and they were saying you wouldn’t get anything under 28,000 per year! That seems a lot to me and Banjar fees, wifi, etc is often on top of that price. So we’ll done you!
If you have 10 billion IDR (AU$ 977,293.22) Then you use it to buy government bonds with interest of 6.4% per year. Then in a month you will get interest of IDR 47,435,465.75 (IDR 569,189,589.00 per year)) The interest income is greater than your expenses in a month or a year.
A great breakdown, it costs me on average for the last 2 years about $1k AUD per week with most meals fast food, staff, rent, etc, its about $12/day to run 3-5 air cons in the south too, still cheaper than $750/week rent in Australia :D
Yes haha, I was a bit too quick there, but $174,000 outlay at one go is eye watering, so keep well, lay off the sugary stuff for a long life. Brilliant presentation guys.
that was great, i Love a good spread sheet 😄, Im relocating to Thailand later this year and while i have a budget planned, nothing like this sort of detail, but i think i will do so as not only will it give me something to do, i love the idea of looking back at what ive spent and than budgeting going forward. That's average expenses in Bali, however, as a local, I think, with those list; I can cut half of the amount, sooner or later, you'll learn how to do that
Geeez lapping it up🤣🤣, that's why I like west jawa cost would be less than half. I purchased 2000sqm for 12KAUS in a stunning area. Congratulations living the dream, I will make my move soon also.
I see from video you visited Good Stuff Cafe in Amed! That’s my haunt, where I bicycle from Kubu for morning coffee and breaky! I’m also often in Kesiman Kertalangu near Sanur! Would love to meet you two!
Definitely! I love Amed, but also Sanur! I have renters at my villa presently in Kubu, so I’m in Kesiman this week, 15 minutes to Sanur🙏 I go to a gym in Renon just next to Sanur, I’m often around Tamblingan too! Hope we cross paths some day🙏
$144.23 a week rent. Yes, I already had the calculator out before you mentioned it, Berg. I'm on Bergs side again Kim, cricket on Kayo is paramount. I think it balances out with the lashes, etc. Great insight to your budget, and I think $40,000 is very reasonable considering what you spent it on. You didn't go without much, either.
We looked around at accomodation in that area and the closest we could find to the same standard and size to here in Perth WA was around $20-30K. Sanur would be our pick if we moved there but it seems so expensive at the moment. Bali seems to be on an upward spiral with lots of people moving in from OS. Thanks for the breakdown, very interesting.
Interesting feedback! What we’ve discovered over the last 5-6 years is that we don’t actually need the big house that we thought we wanted 🤷♀️ For us, living in Bali is simple & compact. It’s convenient and easy and comfortable 🤩🌴 Aussie houses are so big! And then you need stuff to fill them 😋
Good point about the house size, I guess like everything else, you adapt to your surroundings. Again, thank you for the great breakdown of costs @@bergsinbali
It’s easy and hard 😉 It can be hard to decide what to do, whether to sell up everything, where you want to live, how you’ll support yourself. But we think it’s totally worth the headache that can come with setting up! Moving to another country requires planning! Living in Bali is not like a long holiday… unless you have unlimited funds 🤣🤣
Great vid, I really enjoy them all. Wow that was a surprise the budget total was, but still very good considering what we are planning on retiring on in Australia next year. What do you think the rents are close to now and are they still good value if you take a very long term lease? We love Bali been many times will be there again in a week can't wait.
No what are you living on have you both got a good retirement fund each .looks great and good luck . Would do the same but can't stand the heat in Bali . Love Bali but the heat is a killer
The warmth is one of the drawcards for us!! We kept moving north until we landed here in Bali 🤩🌴 We’re a looong way from Aussie retirement but we’re good savers & good investors 😄
Thank you what a great informative video. We are thinking about retiring to Bali and it would seem we could live like lords over there on 50% less than it costs us a year to live in Oz. My only concern is that I am just finishing treatment for breast cancer and the annual check ups I would need but I guess we could do that when we return to Oz which we would do annually. Before you extended your lease what were you paying for the rental?
Awesome summary , 🤔 Inflation will add 😭 Own a home in Sydney the rent will cover it + extra 2mil IDR bonus pw Me & Mrs, Will hang 3 months during the dry season at my favourite hotel in Kuta The other 9months on the Goldy Nice compromise 🙏🏻 Just need to organise the extended Indo Visa 🌊🇮🇩
Hello, I want to go to Bali and stay in Sanur. Where do you recommend? What are the beaches like around Sanur? I was there in 1980 and things looked to have changed, slightly. Thanks.
Hi Michael, Lots has changed in the last 40 years, I’m sure!! There are plenty of beachfront hotels from which to choose. Check out the booking sites for all the info. Enjoy your holiday 🌴
We used a company called MrFixit to buy & install them. They quoted pretty much the same price for fans alone as if we bought ourselves. Brand is Mt Edma
Hi Bergs, I live on the Gold Coast and have visited Sanur a few times and when there stay at the Belle Maison at Wata Jimbar. Whereabouts is your lovely villa from this hotel ??
Not a bad amount! Can’t remember what your original budget was, so not sure how much over you were but take out the furniture etc that aren’t ongoing and it’s pretty good 😊
Great info..thanks so much for all of your hard work. Glad you are so well set up now & I bet you are really happy that you took the plunge & extended your lease for so long. Enjoy, 🌺
Thanks for the info guys I am doing the same in Thailand at 65 so interesting to compare, Australia is just a joke unless you want to work the rest of your life! Just a quick question I noticed you have a few vpns is there one you prefer over the other I am with express but trying to watch Kayo consistently is hit and miss and I've got to have my Moto GP and Formula One. Cheers Neil from Sydney
Thanks for the great, super helpful video! I’d like to know more about your transportation… Do you ever take public transportation? (Do they have good public transportation there?) Or do you just take scooters everywhere? Do you rent one scooter to share? Or one for each of you? Are these long term rentals? How much is your scooter rental per month?
Hi Donny 👋 Sometimes we need a taxi if we’ve bought something too big to fit on our scooters. There’s a bus line between main areas in the southern part of the island but we haven’t used it bc we each bought a scooter
Hi guys. Just tripped over your vlog. Great that you didnt pull any punches regarding your spending. Im a coffee fiend too. Do you reckon that your rent (circa 7-8k aud) per annum woukd be similar if your lease was say 10 years instead of 23 or is it more of a sliding scale.
Thanks for ur transparent vdo and putting urselves out there. Its def inspiring to live the dream in Bali with the breakdown of the costs. My partner and I were there last week, love coco bistro! Out of curiosity how did u find out abt ur villa? Are there any fb groups u recommend for renting villas? Terima Kasih Banyak 🙏🏽
Thanks for your kind comment! We appreciate it 🤩 We joined all the SANUR COMMUNITY type fb groups & posted on there stating we are looking for villa etc. , sifted through the replies & inspected about 10 villas to find this one!
Thanks I was looking forward to seeing this video. Your budget (without the extras and one offs) would be about half what you spent, or pretty close? We retired in Thailand and can live off about $20,000aud per year. The electricity seems about the same price but I don't cook dinner ever in Thailand as it's inexpensive to eat out.
😂 interesting that , and somewhat ironic , expats working and paying off aussie mortgages for aussie expats living in bali ... its the same the world over ... Great vid BTW and very informative as an expat living and working in Oz I've decided oz is too expensive and leaving and I know a lot of people of the same mindset , lots of vacant properties in oz just no affordable ones so its off to indo I go to live the lifestyle of aussie expats and no more paying someone else's mortgage...
Us the villa beachside or bypass? The 23 year lease did you include all legals in the $7500 p/a are you up for maintance costs or is that included in tge complex? Thanks for sharing your info is very relevant to us contemplaters we have been to sanur 7+ times and like the mertasari end

I see from video you visited Good Stuff Cafe in Amed! That’s my haunt, where I bicycle from Kubu for morning coffee and breaky! I’m also often in Kesiman Kertalangu near Sanur! Would love to meet you two!
We MUST get back to Amed soon & love Good Stuff cafe! Happy to meet up then 🤩
Definitely! I love Amed, but also Sanur! I have renters at my villa presently in Kubu, so I’m in Kesiman this week, 15 minutes to Sanur🙏 I go to a gym in Renon just next to Sanur, I’m often around Tamblingan too! Hope we cross paths some day🙏
That would be great 👍
That's what i'm talking about! I knew I didn't miss it! 🤩🤩
A-ha… but you said the villa update… 😉 Now we all get it 🤣

$144.23 a week rent. Yes, I already had the calculator out before you mentioned it, Berg. I'm on Bergs side again Kim, cricket on Kayo is paramount. I think it balances out with the lashes, etc. Great insight to your budget, and I think $40,000 is very reasonable considering what you spent it on. You didn't go without much, either.
Well… Kayo is DOUBLE what my lashes cost 😋 and I definitely couldn’t go without the cricket 🏏
We went without nothing that we wanted 🤩
And love it that you were calculating along with us!
It is soooo cheap ...Love the video . Cheers from Brisbane.
Thanks for watching! 🤩
Well ya cant take it with ya so enjoy and keep spending👍
Thanks, we might cut back on the spending this year though 😂
Fantastic for breaking it all down, what do you both do for income. Thanks so much for your transparency ❤️🇦🇺
Glad you enjoyed it! We no longer work (yay)! Now we live off excellent goal setting and planning for the last 15 years 😉
We looked around at accomodation in that area and the closest we could find to the same standard and size to here in Perth WA was around $20-30K. Sanur would be our pick if we moved there but it seems so expensive at the moment. Bali seems to be on an upward spiral with lots of people moving in from OS. Thanks for the breakdown, very interesting.
Interesting feedback! What we’ve discovered over the last 5-6 years is that we don’t actually need the big house that we thought we wanted 🤷♀️
For us, living in Bali is simple & compact. It’s convenient and easy and comfortable 🤩🌴 Aussie houses are so big! And then you need stuff to fill them 😋
Good point about the house size, I guess like everything else, you adapt to your surroundings. Again, thank you for the great breakdown of costs

We want to do it ,but a bit nervous , been to Bali many times & love it. Is it easy to do? We are Aussies .
We absolutely encourage you to do it if it’s what you want!! For us, there’s nothing better than our fabulous Sanur lifestyle 🌴🤩
Thank you for your video
Thanks for watching 🤩
Great vid, I really enjoy them all. Wow that was a surprise the budget total was, but still very good considering what we are planning on retiring on in Australia next year. What do you think the rents are close to now and are they still good value if you take a very long term lease? We love Bali been many times will be there again in a week can't wait.
You can still get a good price for long term lease like ours! Shorter term (yearly) around Sanur look to be in excess of $20.000aud 🫣
No what are you living on have you both got a good retirement fund each .looks great and good luck . Would do the same but can't stand the heat in Bali . Love Bali but the heat is a killer
The warmth is one of the drawcards for us!! We kept moving north until we landed here in Bali 🤩🌴
We’re a looong way from Aussie retirement but we’re good savers & good investors 😄
Awesome summary , 🤔 Inflation will add 😭
Own a home in Sydney the rent will cover it + extra 2mil IDR bonus pw
Me & Mrs, Will hang 3 months during the dry season at my favourite hotel in Kuta
The other 9months on the Goldy Nice compromise 🙏🏻
Just need to organise the extended Indo Visa 🌊🇮🇩
Sounds like a great plan 🤩🌴

No way!! 🫣
Well done to you both 🎉
Thanks
Great job! Congrats!❤❤❤
Thanks! 😊
Fantastic. Thanks for sharing. 20k per person not bad.🌞
Our pleasure! 🤩
Hi Can you tell me what devices etc you use to watch Australian TV in Bali.
Thanks
Thanks for watching Margaret, we’ve been using Nord VPN for 2 1/2 years without a problem.
You just need to download the apps on your TV
Hello, I want to go to Bali and stay in Sanur. Where do you recommend? What are the beaches like around Sanur? I was there in 1980 and things looked to have changed, slightly. Thanks.
Hi Michael, Lots has changed in the last 40 years, I’m sure!!
There are plenty of beachfront hotels from which to choose. Check out the booking sites for all the info.
Enjoy your holiday 🌴
Good morning, great information. Can you please tell me where you brought the fibreglass ceiling fans from. A big thank you
We used a company called MrFixit to buy & install them. They quoted pretty much the same price for fans alone as if we bought ourselves. Brand is Mt Edma
Hello Can you please tell me where you brought the fibreglass ceiling fans from. A big thank you
See the comment above 🤩
It costsme 25k per annum in Au and that includes a lot of travelling, hobbies etc.
Awesome 😎
Hi Bergs,
I live on the Gold Coast and have visited Sanur a few times and when there stay at the Belle Maison at Wata Jimbar. Whereabouts is your lovely villa from this hotel ??
Sorry got the hotel wrong , Swissbel hotel, watu jimbar
We’re nearby the night markets in Sindhu area … north of Swissbel 🤩
Not a bad amount! Can’t remember what your original budget was, so not sure how much over you were but take out the furniture etc that aren’t ongoing and it’s pretty good 😊
Originally was 30k… soooo oops 😬
Little ooops 🤣
Awesome xx
Thank you 🤗
Love your videos coming to Bali Feb perhaps we can meet up x
Sounds lovely 🤩 Thanks for watching!
Very informative as usual 🙏🏻✨ p.s. you're eye surgery looks amazing 😍
Thank you & THANK YOU 🤩😉
Totally enjoyed watching Thank You Both 💖💙
Have you ever thought of getting a really good coffee machine? 😂😂
I love my Nespresso machine!! Definitely can’t be bothered grinding beans etc for 1 cup of coffee a day 🫣
Great info..thanks so much for all of your hard work. Glad you are so well set up now & I bet you are really happy that you took the plunge & extended your lease for so long. Enjoy, 🌺
Thanks Kerry 🤩🌴
Thanks for the info guys I am doing the same in Thailand at 65 so interesting to compare, Australia is just a joke unless you want to work the rest of your life! Just a quick question I noticed you have a few vpns is there one you prefer over the other I am with express but trying to watch Kayo consistently is hit and miss and I've got to have my Moto GP and Formula One.
Cheers
Neil from Sydney
Thanks Neil, I was having the same issues with Express, I changed to Nord VPN and have had no trouble watching Kayo since.
Awesome Berg thanks for the quick reply, with the new seasons coming up I will give Nord a go.
Thanks again
Neil
A house at Arundel or Currumbin cost $1k a week to rent. So that's $52,000 a year. Nothing else .
🫣 jeepers!!
Definitely a sliding scale scenario! Longer lease before prices skyrocketed when tourism reopened helped us! Thanks for watching 🤗
We appreciate it 🤩
We joined all the SANUR COMMUNITY type fb groups & posted on there stating we are looking for villa etc. , sifted through the replies & inspected about 10 villas to find this one!
@@bergsinbali thx for responding! Take care and enjoy ur day 😊
Great video 🤙🏼🤙🏼
The Kayo $692 is still better then the $1626 for 💇♀️ 💆♀️ 💅
😂😂😜😜
Still both worth it 🤙🏼🤙🏼
You got that right! 🤩
Thanks for watching! It’s not the cost of food that drives us to eat at home more often… it’s the laziness of us 🤣🤣
I'd say a huge number of aussies are renting out their homes and cashing in the Bali dream
The local bride picture in Bali is so Ezy
Thanks for sharing your thoughts 🌴
😂 interesting that , and somewhat ironic , expats working and paying off aussie mortgages for aussie expats living in bali ... its the same the world over ... Great vid BTW and very informative as an expat living and working in Oz I've decided oz is too expensive and leaving and I know a lot of people of the same mindset , lots of vacant properties in oz just no affordable ones so its off to indo I go to live the lifestyle of aussie expats and no more paying someone else's mortgage...
@JohnLong-el3ec enjoy the change of lifestyle 🌴
Good clear commentary
Thanks!🙏
Us the villa beachside or bypass? The 23 year lease did you include all legals in the $7500 p/a are you up for maintance costs or is that included in tge complex? Thanks for sharing your info is very relevant to us contemplaters we have been to sanur 7+ times and like the mertasari end
Beachside! 🌴 We included everything that we pay in our yearly expenses. Happy contemplating 🤩 We also love Mertasari end of town!
