Chiang Mai fairly cheap here in Thailand. Lot cheaper than UK. I heard that back home even Warwick Davis is struggling to put food on the table. Joking apart 4 bed 3 bathroom £289 per month rent £100 utilities, scrambled egg in the morning and cottage pie every night with baked beans
What I like about Bali is big lush villas, everything done for you, top notch grub out and Gojek for home, and a beer or two at a bar a few times a day . I think this would cost me a bit more 😊

Go elsewhere my mate who lived in Sanur passed away because of a bungled synopsis and treatment, go to Singapore, Thailand or Australia. He thought he’d be ok in Bali as he’d previously had a hip operation there and it went ok. But It’s too late when you find out it’s not.
We have had some serious medical issues while in Bali, we have been coming here for 40 years, and I can guarantee you that the service we received from BIMC and the local doctors in Kuta was a 1000% better than Modbury Hospital!

Yes you are very right ! I am in shock 😮 you will have to go to open markets in Denpasar where the locals buy. Our supermarkets in Melbourne are cheaper. $3.50 for a kilo of drumsticks which is nice, But Council Rates, Water Rates, electricity & gas are killing peoples budget
I love staying in Sanur. Golden syrup is just sugar and water, if you can get the brown sugar with molasses, heat in a pan with small splash of water, any sugar will work but brown sugar will get the closest taste to the golden syrup you know. If you can't make it let me know and I will post some to you. I wish we still had hardware stores like that.

If you shop at a western supermarket and eat food Indonesians don’t normally eat, the prices will be high because wastage will be high and freight will be higher as demand is lower. Go eat a Nasi Goreng and you will pay $0.50, eat a steak and potatoes and you will pay through the rook. Simple

A few points You can stay at an executive homestay ( which is similar to what Al has) for half the price and it will include WiFi and water . You can buy a huge range of slow cookers in Bali. It is illogical to bring one from Oz as the power voltage is different. Smart expats shop at pande putri supermarket. One very close to Al.
A consideration should be the July change in the retirement visa laws. You now must show you have an income or in the bank AUD 4,400 for every month of your visa term.

There are a lot of bad motorbike crashes in Thailand. When I was in Bali I never seen any crashes. They just know how to drive in congested bike traffic.

The local system is good, if it was major it is only a few hundred dollars to get to Perth
