  • Hello and welcome back to the channel and……yes it’s another kit bashing video! I said I wasn’t planning any more work on my Bolt Action Germans but the urge for plastic, suplerglue and green stuff was just too strong!
    Last year I made a video where I kitbashed a veteran Fallschirmjager section that was kitted out with bits and pieces of allied equipment. Having noticed that my German army doesn’t actually include a single Grenadier unit, I have decided to rectify this and build a similar veteran unit but using the Grenadier box rather than Fallschirmjager.
    In the video, I’ll outline the finished section and the various bits and pieces that I used to put it together. Overall, I used a host of bits from six plastic kits and I’m really very happy with the way it has turned out - a very unique looking section full of character, poses and captured weapons that befits their veteran status.
    When these will get painted is another matter altogether!
    If you have any comments or questions, just pop them below and I will certainly respond to all questions and comments. If you enjoyed the video, please give it a like and consider subscribing to the channel for more gaming goodness!

      That's awesome, thank you! Kit bashing is by far and away one of my favourite parts of the hobby so whenever I can get the 400 sprues and superglue out, I'll be a happy chap :)

    The loops on the arms and helmets of the SS guys are for adding forage to their uniform to create a natural camo.

      That's awesome, thanks William! Hopefully this shows just how versatile the plastic kits are and with a bit of imagination and some glue, you can create some really pretty unique and individual miniatures. Kitbashing remains one of my favourite parts of the hobby! Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment, much appreciated 😀

      I think he has most definitely earned his veteran status and is certainly seen his fair share of action 😅

      Cheers Justin! I thought it had been a bit long since I did any German kit bashing so it was out with the glue and the mountain of plastic sprues that currently live on my shelves :D

      Niiiiice! My painting music normally shifts between metal and ambient electronic with a smattering of jazz in between. It's always interesting to know what people are listening to while they paint 😀

      Hey dude, greetings from Cheshire, England! Glad you enjoy the kit bashing videos, I always have great fun in both the actual kit bashing and making the videos. I've said many times before that converting and making my own individual and unique looking units is one of the best parts of the hobby :)

    Another great video Ste! I think some people, myself included, are intimidated by kit bashing. I always envision kit bashing as completely tearing apart a model and doing a complete Dr Frankenstein job but it can really be quite subtle. Just by using an arm or head from a different box can make a quite unique figure. Thanks for showing us just how versatile the Warlord kits can be. How about some more battle reports....

    • @OnPointHQ
      @OnPointHQ  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers Sam! I definitely think a lot of people are like this and, to be fair, the Warlord kits themselves are fantastic as they are. But I like my figures to be as unique as possible so always look for the 'quick wins' when kit bashing. If I am having to carve, cut and green stuff a figure, I'm probably not doing it right or will not like the results. The SAS that I completed recently are a good example - all changes were largely just arms and heads but they made a big difference.
      Ahhh yes....I was toying with the idea of filming a few solo games of Firefight to build up a small narrative. Still planning but it might work :)

      Cheers buddy! That is exactly the look that I always aim for, mixing and matching but keeping them realistic and full of character. Its a simple way of putting together really unique looking figures/sections that stand out from others :)

      Thanks Sean, much appreciated mate. I think of all the kit basing that I've done, I think the late war German ones really work best as there its lots of scope to make the figures individual and unique. There are probably more planned :)

      Thanks Lucian! Kit bashing and converting different squads is definitely one of my favourite parts of the hobby. I'd much prefer to have a squad or weapons team that is unique to me rather than just made from the box 😊

      Oh yes, you really can't go wrong with a bit of kitbashing! My late war German army has so many kit bashed units and figures which is why it was so much fun to put together. As I said, my view is to keep it simple and not to force something so that it either looks bad or forced. For me, its having the eye to identify where pieces will look organic and go together :)

    Some great poses there buddy......the only one I’m not keen on is the guy with the Lee Enfield if I’m honest.
    I used to think you put too many captured weapons on them but if they had a back story like them running low on ammo after an extended firefight (lasting a few days), no resupply is imminent so they pool their remaining ammo for say half the men and the other half pick up weapons taken from the captured or fallen enemy and they utilise the remaining captured ammo it now makes perfect sense why so many would be using captured weapons at the same time, especially at that stage of the war.
    Keep up the great work can’t wait to see them finished and based 👍

    • @OnPointHQ
      @OnPointHQ  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers Guy and absolutely agree with your theory for the looted weapons. With my Normandy based Germans, I have an ethos that they are a cobbled together kampfgruppe, in constant combat, struggling with supplies and they've been looting and foraging to acquire what weapons they can find. I think having a background like that makes a Bolt Action army that bit more interesting ☺

      On Point HQ - I didn’t like the guy with the Lee Enfield before - I thought there was a weight/balance problem especially with the added weight of the British bayonet, but I’ve had another look and with the adrenaline pumping it’s a completely feasible pose......I now really like that one too ! 👍 Good Job.

      Hey Paul, it took me a while to work out how best to use it too. What I tend to do now is scoop a small piece from the tub and keep adding water until its really pliable and malleable. It is definitely trial and error and I wouldn't like to try anything complex with it! :)

      It's an accessory that comes with the plastic Grenadier box by Warlord Games. It's a little bit fiddly to attach and is a tad oversized but it's a nice addition to denote a figure as an NCO 😀
