    Use to support a shelter tarp if caught in rain or shade the sun.
    Check the depth of water before crossing.
    Lever to move stones or logs.

      Saw a YT video. Guy had put small grooves in his walking stick 6" 12" 18" up from the end. So that he could measure the depth of rivers he was crossing. Another guy did the same but he used a brass ring in each just to match the trim on the hand end

    I fell down a steep ravine once while I was holding my walking stick. My stick saved my life as I spread it horizontally between two trees on my way down. I will never forget that day.

    I have one I got at a craft festival in NW Arkansas in 1980. I have used it many times as a wading staff when fishing, especially fishing for trout in swift water.

    A 3 ft cane is long enough to clear a snake from a path. It helps not being afraid of snakes. Sometimes there is room to just go around.

      @@chutethemall8099 oh the best thing would be not to be afraid of snakes but there are people who seize up and freeze up because they were taught to be terrified of them.

    Lmao, you have to beware of ninja teddy bears! 😂 I have a trackers stick. It has measurement rings, 1’ in inches and every 12” marked after for measuring stride, which can tell you approximate height or speed.

    The walking stick has saved me many times when I have confronted a snake they will strike at it before your in there reach , most snakes are not worried about you they just basically mind their own business.😊

    I kept breaking mine when I would lose my balance. I now have a 60-inch bow rake handle that I put some skateboard tape on for better grip. I'm going to make a spike for the end. Eventually. It's made of ash, but I have yet to snap this one.

    • @stickin2it
      @stickin2it  5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That happened to me before! I have a slightly skinny oak that I loved and I snapped it. So I got a thicker oak, stained it and have had that ever since... Over 12 years.

    The weapon in your hand is always quicker than the one you have to draw. My walking stick (solid ebony like a riot baton) is my constant companion. It is good for more than just walking. It is a generic tool. Civilization began with sticks. Followed by stones. Followed by ropes. Followed by knives, spears, and bows. Followed by agriculture. And here we are.

    • @stickin2it
      @stickin2it  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yeah, pretty much every time I go hiking or walking somewhere I'm taking a walking stick with me not even really for balance at all. We are going back to our roots!

    If you are an amputee like me and don't have full use of a foot 🦶👣 the walking stick is necessary , if any dogs or raccoons are getting to close just put a barrier between them and you , you can be at the stick against a tree and warn others that you are around in vicinity of area you are at , see how deep a creek may be before you try crossing , 🚸 hang up wet clothing just find where two bushes or post or trees may have some sort of a prop the lay stick across then you can fold clothing over then let it dry , you can use it to get stubborn stuck boots off your feet 😭😅😊

    If you leave the snake alone he will leave you alone. I like to use mine as a raised corner support on one corner of the rain fly over my hammock. Or as one very famous person said , carry a big stick and talk softly or something like that. People give a person wit a big stick a lot of free space.

    • @stickin2it
      @stickin2it  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh I assure you I definitely leave the snakes alone And every other creature when I'm exploring the woods. I never tried the trick of propping up your tent with the stick, but if it's tied down right on both sides of that it should work out perfect and be very stable

    You mean a "Hiking"/ Staff stick, much different than a "Walking" stick/cane". Please use correct terminology and you'll be taken seriously.

    • @stickin2it
      @stickin2it  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      David, it all depends where you grew up and how you were raised. I've always used the term walking stick. So I'll stick to what I use. No pun intended 😁
      And as for being taken seriously, none of us are getting out alive. So please focus on the important things in life instead of what words people use.. You'll be so much happier.
