Stickin' To It
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 23 ก.ค. 2013
Stickin' To It was born from whittling away at walking sticks, but it's so much more than that. It's a lifestyle. It's getting out there in nature, exploring the great outdoors... hiking, camping, adventuring... living in the moment and maybe even getting lost in the woods. (Don't worry. I'll bring a compass! ;)
You'll find it all here, from creating walking sticks to taking them on hikes. I'll bring you along for whatever adventures I get up to!
So get out there, have fun, and keep Stickin' To It!

Craft show and walking sticks. No cell service and no power
Happy Walking Stick Wednesday!!!
In this video I'm going to the Buttermilk Barn sale in Sylvainia GA.
This craft show has been going on for a few years with last year's visitor count hitting around 8,000!! Thats crazy!!
But because of Hurricane Helene everyone in the area took a hit. With millions out of power, trees down, and so much damage across Georgia the craft show organizers decided to keep the sale going just 2 days after the storm. Everyone that showed up wanted to get out of their homes and away from any damage to have a good time. I say it was a good call to keep the Craft show going.
But I'll see yall next time!!!
Get out there!
Have Fun!!

Happy Walking Stick Wednesday and Happy New Year everyone!!!! On this adventure I've hit the combo of a trip!! *1st thing is to harvest honey!!! I've never had the privilege to do this before but it was such an eye opening and educational experience! 10 out 10 recommend. *2nd, I was given some insight of the Chrismas Tree Farm Operation. Did you know you can buy a 15 foot Christmas Tree for you...

Wow! That's awesome ❤️❤️👍

As a tracker a stick can be a tracking aid, a walking aid or whacking aid!
Preach!!!
I kept breaking mine when I would lose my balance. I now have a 60-inch bow rake handle that I put some skateboard tape on for better grip. I'm going to make a spike for the end. Eventually. It's made of ash, but I have yet to snap this one.
That happened to me before! I have a slightly skinny oak that I loved and I snapped it. So I got a thicker oak, stained it and have had that ever since... Over 12 years.
I live in the NC foothills. A lot still dont have power or homes since that storm.. The regular Americans are the ones helping them the most.
That is insane!! Even though the storm scrubbed us, I can't fathom what you guys are going through.
What river is this? Looks familiar.
It's the Canoochee River in South East Ga
I went back a bit in time and found another real good one to watch. Keep on, keeping on!
I can't pass up on a good kayaking trip!!
Don't know how I missed this one. I always love watching your harvesting vids. Keep on, keeping on!
And harvest season is right around the corner with hunting season done.
It looks like you nailed your mass production! I love your flags and good luck with your upcoming show. Keep on, keeping on!
Thank you Mr. Dennis!! You'll see how the show went in the next episode. I
Other than it being hot. I'll bet this was a cool trip. Enjoyed your video. Keep on, keeping on!
Yes sir, it really was a great trip and I plan on going back for another walking stick harvest but even more so than I got this time.
glad i know i can protect my self from flying teddy bears now that i have a walking stick
Oh great! Ya know, safety first. They can be ruthless this time of year.
Cool! 👍
Why you wearing that huge mask?
@andreicocor4383 because of the sawdust sanding the sticks with this tool creates. There was a time last year where I didn't use mask like this... I was sanding a sweet gum and my face had a reaction to where my face felt like it was on fire and nothing helped. So since then when using that sander I always use a mask. That and it's a smart thing to not rebreathe all that dust. I should have done this a while ago.
Pretty cool
Thanks!!
@ wish you included the final product. Definitely the thing missing. Keep it my dude!
Totally understand. It's hard to include it all on a short. This is a cut from my main video which is linked to this short
@ which I do understand. Tho shorts is the massive contributor to growing a channel and I’ve been seeing these smaller channels popping up in my feed and it made me realize what makes a short successful or not. Personally I’ve generalized it from three things. 1. context or intro to give audience on what you’re doing or talking about. 2 is process or explanation (mainly important bits or major bits). 3 conclusion and pay off (final product and show off). Now I’m not a content creator at all but that’s been the pattern I’ve seen on shorts. Keep doing whatcha doing. Definitely subscribe and hope your channel take off. It has potential man
@Davidiscrazy thanks for the tips!
Prepping for a craft show is always better than prepping for a colonoscopy, but they're both stressful and can be a pain in the butt! 😂 Good luck Brother!

THIS WAS SOOOO COOL -- Loved that we got to learn so much from Scotts Family Farm as we got to "tag along" with you. -- IMA Geek and Proud of it. -- Thanks for planning this event.
@@Woody.D828 I had an awesome time with them. I plan on going back at some point soon.
Looking good!
Thanks boss man
You make great sticks !!
Thank you very much!
Really enjoyed the video, informative and funny. The bear will not mess with you again:)
@@robertkapostins6783 he better not!! 🤣
Great video, looks like a fun day. I make sticks out of Crepe Myrtle branches. Very straight but warp as there drying out.
Crepe Myrtle makes some nice sticks!
You need you some bees, you can put them at the house lol
One of these days I will have some bees for sure.
Great video!
Thanks!
Sounds like it's about time to add a couple hives to The Farm at Bunton Place
Is a nice addition to any Farm with some benefits.

Love the forest
Oh I do too!
Great harvest
Thank you sir!
Love your adventures
@@mikewatts3615 thanks Mr. Mike!
Great video
Thanks!
The walking stick has saved me many times when I have confronted a snake they will strike at it before your in there reach , most snakes are not worried about you they just basically mind their own business.😊
It's always a great tool for many reasons! Glad you enjoyed!
A 3 ft cane is long enough to clear a snake from a path. It helps not being afraid of snakes. Sometimes there is room to just go around.
@@chutethemall8099 oh the best thing would be not to be afraid of snakes but there are people who seize up and freeze up because they were taught to be terrified of them.
Pathetic!
🤣🤣🤣 Hope you have a great day and smile a lil.
Very nice!
Thanks dude!!
A piece of rope does that also but doesnt add 500 dollars to the sticker price
Shoot you got a point! It doesn't matter what kind of camper you have. It's always good to have a roll of 550 cord anywhere you go!
Wow,,,every rv in past 30 years has something like that😂
Hahahaha big brain stuff
Tabcoo sticks. I never even considered using them. Now i know to keep an eye out. Thanks for that bit of knowledge
@@Stick_man757 yessir!!!
How long do you let them air dry befoee working on them?
It really depends which type of species and if you debark it or not. Like Lauren maples if I debark them when I get them then I'll let that dry for 4 To 6 months. Maple's one of those trees that won't split on you when you debark it, but a tree that should never be debarked is oak. It will easily split. I will let that dry for 5 to 6 months.
How long do you dry the green wood for?
It just depends on the species And where you're storing it. But a good rule of thumb is 4 to 6 months. Some people wait a whole year
@stickin2it thank you!
teflon pan and a plastic spatula just sitting in it... it's a dark world but if you want out there are faster ways dog
🤣 I just walked away from the pan It's not like it sat there for 30 minutes. Oh trust me. I know the dangers of Teflon but I'm just building my camp cook set. So of course I'm going to get me cast iron. Probably about two sizes, You know just in case.
@@stickin2it oh hell yeah! Good, get a smooth cast iron (it's worth the money), and remember that you CAN wash it with a little soap, just dont leave it wet. And a metal spatula is good with the 10" pan, personally I think it's the only size you need. Spatula: Dexter-Russell All-Purpose Turner, Stainless Steel with Walnut Handle Pan: Butterpat 10" (I use a lodge, but I had to sand down the bottom, strip and reseason it myself...took forever, and its still heavy)
@@morganblair4662 thanks for the tips!!!
bro got walking premium 😭😭
🤣
Thats an awesome find!
If you are an amputee like me and don't have full use of a foot 🦶👣 the walking stick is necessary , if any dogs or raccoons are getting to close just put a barrier between them and you , you can be at the stick against a tree and warn others that you are around in vicinity of area you are at , see how deep a creek may be before you try crossing , 🚸 hang up wet clothing just find where two bushes or post or trees may have some sort of a prop the lay stick across then you can fold clothing over then let it dry , you can use it to get stubborn stuck boots off your feet 😭😅😊
@@Lawrence-ho9eq hahaha the possibilities are endless
I've been making sticks for about 5 years. I found your page looking for tips and tricks, and if it is ok with you, I'd like to use some of your ideas for my stick.
@@Stick_man757 absolutely Mr. Larry! That's why I post. So that we as a walking stick community community can share everything we know. Have a great Thanksgiving!
@stickin2it Thanks brother you have a good Thanksgiving too
I spend several hours making each of my canes and I would have to charge at least $80 to meet my labor costs let alone the cost of materials. Problem is there are tons of canes that are very nice on line for $30 to $40 and I can't compete with that. What do you suggest?
Hey Nik! Yeah it's a dilemma that I went through when trying to figure out the best prices of stuff but something I have learned is people go to craft shows to spend money and if you're canes stand out and they will sell probably not all of them but you will have some sales. It's also a good idea to have a few canes that are less work on you but still the Cane form feature and charge less. A few different models and styles is also a great thing because people definitely have different taste and sizes that they like different hands or different sizes, etc
@@stickin2it Thanks. That is good advice.
Your enthusiasm is infectious. And honestly you did a really good job of not just saying "then I do this, then i will do that" you step by step said what you're about to do and WHY you're doing it and going into detail. I am someone who does a lot of stuff like this but will often just make do with what I have around, so to me, it's much more useful sometimes to hear WHY you're doing rather than WHAT you're doing. It allows me room to improvise and do things different than you demonstrated but with the same result being the goal. Long story short, you're joy was apparent and made me like you right away, and I also found you to be a very effective instructor too. I found your video on a Google search but came to youtube just to leave a like and subscribe!
Oh thank you so much! I truly enjoy every process of the making of a walking stick, From harvesting to selling. That doesn't mean it's always easy, but I do hope to one day make a living out of it. That's the reason I stay happy about it. Get out there! Have fun!! And keep Stickin to it!!
I don't know if you'll see this comment or not. But I thought I my share some of my ideas for making vines on a stick. I will usually cut a piece of kudzu vines about 6 ft in walk that down the stick attach it to the stick with some large thumb tacks. Use a pencil or black marker to trace the vine onto the stick. Remove the vine, and use a rat tail file or chain saw file to cut across the pencil markings, walk up the stick with the file removing the pencil markings as you go , the file itself makes a real cool impression of a natural vine.
Yeah that's a good idea, I definitely need to include a file set and a rasp so I can shape things by hand. Because sometimes that's a better option than using my sander
The most overhyped, overrated park i have ever camped. Had 10 day reservation but left after 2 nights. Never going back.
@@jimmyclay9316 whoa Mr. Jimmy, mind me asking when did you go? Because right now they are doing the renovations and It definitely takes away From the full effect
You were lucky that bear didn't fuc& you up, just as well you had that stick.
If you leave the snake alone he will leave you alone. I like to use mine as a raised corner support on one corner of the rain fly over my hammock. Or as one very famous person said , carry a big stick and talk softly or something like that. People give a person wit a big stick a lot of free space.
Oh I assure you I definitely leave the snakes alone And every other creature when I'm exploring the woods. I never tried the trick of propping up your tent with the stick, but if it's tied down right on both sides of that it should work out perfect and be very stable
Try checking the volume out put
Yeah tell me about it! 🤣 My audio was terrible in this video because this Is One of my first videos that I dropped at a later date.
Nice!
Thanks!
