    💬 LESSON DESCRIPTION:
In this video I'll be breaking down how to count odd time signatures like 5/4 and 7/4.
These odd time signatures can be tricky, but they're essential for a wide range of musical styles, from jazz to world music.
Most of the time, when people play in odd time signatures, they sound contrived and unnatural.
In this lesson I'll be offering some tips and tricks for making these odd time signatures feel more natural, including a couple scales and cool rhythmic patterns.
Whether you're a beginner or an advanced player, understanding odd time signatures is a valuable skill that will take your playing to the next level.

THANK YOU! I know rhythm videos don't get any traction on youtube, but I've been dying to hear your approach to rhythm training - especially more advanced rhythm stuff! You always have the most thoughtful approach to teaching and this lesson was no different! Would love more on these topics! Your metronome video was amazing too!👏

Thanks Garrett! I didn't realize that rhythm videos don't get traction on TH-cam since I haven't done many of them... but it looks like your right! haha. I'm glad you liked the video! Thanks for the comment and feedback and requests. :) ~~ Jared

@@garrettplumley I'll definitely make more! I don't worry too much about the algorithm or anything like that, I just try to make whatever video I think will be helpful for people based on the topics I'm interested in :) Thanks again for the requests

@@soundguitar I really appreciate that approach, and it makes total sense given how your lessons have something truly different about them in the most helpful way! Cheers

You sound relaxed and natural, with that approach. I played quite some East-European music and developed the approach to stall the (more or less implicit) up and down movement during groups of three. When comping, you don’t want to play that second beat of a three-group, anyway. It wasn’t awkward at all, that way. I could vary a lot without getting lost. With alternate picking for melody it is different, though. More strict up and down, there.

It's good to also count for the 5/4 ONE and TWO and THREE, ONE and TWO and THREE, with no "and" after the THREE just go right back to ONE. Emphasizing the one and two in that pattern is the same rhythm as the UP, UP,.....DOWN,DOWN. 7/4 you emphasize the 1,2 and 3 and leave off the "and" of 4 if any of that makes sense!!
