5:03 “No need to follow the dreams of the dead.” I always liked that line. Really summarizes a lot of the reasons why the wars kept dragging on- fighting for the ideals of dead men. Strange how Liu Shan was known for being lazy and unambitious, yet he sees the current situation with clarity. Maybe he was wiser than he let on.
Dynasty Warriors 9 has the animation that's improved. Lotsa things that improved from graphics to the redesigned looks on the characters. The KOEI Tecmo team's made lotsa progress, leadin' to the Dynasty Warriors 9 game (w/ DLC) AND the Samurai warriors 5 w/ Oda Nobunaga plus Akechi Mitsuhide in the main spotlight (chronologically before Miyamoto Musashi). It'd be great to have a Hyrule Warriors sequel w/ left-handed Link (Link the Hero o' Twilight) as the main protag, Zelda as the deuteragonist, and the Dark Lord Ganondorf (same dude in Twilight Princess) as the final boss (fer the last time).
In my perspective, poor child he is. He doesn't have the capabilities, yet was fprced to become a leader just because his legacy. He just want peace (according to dw8)
His father never had faith in him and the son who actually had leading capabilities was executed because his dad blamed him for guan yus death. His work was nothing.
@@muhammadzariff7075 It means saving the lives that won't be thrown away by the war. If Liu Shan never surrendered, the people of Shu woud have suffered even more and Shan himself would be killed by Jin/Wei. He just chose the most rational and only choice at that time
7:01 That is downfall of Sun Hao of Wu because he is just like Dong Zhuo's cruelty and tyrannical personality and possibly Wu generals dislike his behaviour and decide to join Jin,I think.
"For actual battle skill" Sima Yi, according to the book, fought Wei Yan, one of Shu's strongest in direct one-on-one combat. I assume this is the kind of battle skill you are talking about? Because as battlefield commanders? All three Simas were insanely good.
Daniel Le : What? Jin dynasty is the golden age? They will soon fell because Hun invasion, and lead China into "16 kingdom period", which is more darkess than even Three Kingdom. You can say don't really have a winner in Three Kingdom, even Sima clan.
+Xie Peng But we have to agree that Luo GuanZhong is the genius. I think Three Kingdom ( 220 - 280) period is a very boring timeline ( every kingdom only have one generation of emperor is the skillfull emperor - the first emperor of every kingdom: Cao Pi, Liu Bei and Sun Quan. After them, all other emperor only a puppet and useless). But Luo writed his novel from 184 instead 220, and that made the story is more excited. Sadly, but until now, everyone who love or know about Three Kingdom almost only focus into the timeline between 184-220 ( Ending of Han dynasty) more than 220-280 ( the real Three Kingdom period).
+Xie Peng " Romance of the Three Kingdoms" novel is too famous. That is why everyone who write about Three Kingdom period will take 184 ( Yellow Turban rebellion) as their beginning. But actually, the real Three Kingdom period is from 220-280. In Luo GuanZhong's novel, he ended his novel in 234 ( when Kongming died) and use last 15 chapter to summary 50 years of the Three Kingdom period. We can say that, when Kongming died, Three Kingdom period have just begun. That is why, although very many film/ comic/ novel talk about Three Kingdoms, all of them actually talk about " Ending of Han dynasty period ( 184-220)" more than real " Three Kingdoms period ( 220-280).
+Xie Peng I hope someday, someone will made a film/novel/comic about real Three Kingdoms period and its heroes, not " Han ending's period" heroes who are too famous already. It isn't fair when we talking about Three Kingdoms, but actually only focus into Han Ending's period.
+Xie Peng yeah, that's right. I always want to rename Lou Guanzhong novel's tittle before. He should name his novel is " Romance of Jian'an" or " How the Three Kingdom begin" more than " Romance of the Three Kingdoms"
I gotta say, they handled the banquet scene pretty well, and in fact deviated from it after Shan says "No need to follow the dreams of the dead". And the final Jin ending? What can I say, freaking masterful.
Epicness. Zhang Fei's defiant stand against Lu Bu. Sadly Jiang Wei discarded his honor and used treachery to have Deng Ai killed after Deng Ai conquered Shu. The guy sent to kill Deng Ai could have spared him but he knew if Deng Ai was released he would reveal how stupid everyone was for falling into Jiang Wei's ploy thus costing them prestige and position if not their deaths. So they killed Deng Ai when he was bound to prevent his retribution.
I agree....Shi is a really good guy who has had enough of the other kingdom's pointless grudges. Both Shi and Zhao are heroes to me. Wei had always gone downhill after the death of Cao Rui. Were it not for the Sima clan, it probably would have taken MUCH....MUCH longer to unify the land.
In the novel, I never got Sima Shi that much. Hated Zhao, but Shi puzzled me. Seeing him in the game, however, and then going back and re-reading the material has really helped bring him to life for me. He was a good guy, but he didn't allow himself to be seen that way. Wei didn't need a kind ruler at that time - it needed one who was willing to be ruthless, who could bring it back to the power it enjoyed before Cai Rui started it on the road to decline. Shi couldn't let himself be nice.
sima yi- took control of the kingdom but refuse to accept himself as the emperor sima shi- massacred the entire xiahou family, killed the empress, disposed the emperor, but refuse to kill the emperor and name himself the new one sima zhao- killed the emperor, cao mao, took the tiele "king of jin" but refuse to accept himself as emperor sima yan- did almost everything from his elders combined plus becoming the emperor, destroying wei once and for all
Sima Shi was ill and had surgery, however he refused to sit on the sidelines when a rebellion occurred. In what should have been an easy victory Sima Shi was horrified to learn that a lone warrior, Wen Yang, had massacred hundreds of his Generals and made a mockery of his vast army. To add further insult to injury Wen Yang nearly reached Sima Shi multiple times in the battle and that he would later retreat mostly unharmed after he grew tired. This stress worsened his condition.
@kazenokoe80 the last one is: Deng Ai the general who defeated Cheng Du and Jiang Wei the loyal and faithful apprentice of Zhuge Liang. you can see win or lose is not the main factor of epicness
zhuge liang was wrong to say that liu chan has the spirit of benevolence. but Chan not even cared for his country. then whyLiu Chan didn't give up Shu to Zhuge Liang?
This can't be all of the cutscenes. What about the one where the nasal guy says that he is destined for greatness, or when the youngerst brother complains that he has beter things to do with his time? You see them in the trailer.
Pretty sure that in his last moments in the game, it is the only time we see Sima Shi smile as he is remembered of what he said when he was handed power...
Did anyone ever think as the mind of Liu Shan, not Chan! It's Shan! He probably saw that Shu was crumbling and decided to let Wei take over so he could save his people! When Jiang Wei and Zhang Hui staged a rebellion, Liu Shan killed Jiang Wei for imprisoning his friends and causing even more chaos! Liu Shan, in his own way, is a hero.
Zhuge Liang was a loyal, good man. Liu Shan was an idiot, but Zhuge Liang's loyalty to Liu Bei stopped him from going against Liu Shan, although Liu Bei told him to take over Shu if the boy was a poor ruler. Zhuge Liang kept his sentiments towards Liu Bei too close to his heart...
I find it funny how Sima Yan looks like he would be a stereotypical pretty boy from what little we see of him... "Sima Yan was huge of frame, his flowing hair reached to the ground when he stood up, and both hands hung down below his knees. He was clever, brave, and skilled in the use of arms."
Liu Shan is completely the opposite of Sima Zhao, he seems to be happy to not have to listen to anyone. However, Zhao seemed kind of sad that he lost his father.
You know... after hearing much about him, I think he's not really idiotic. The guy was just surrounded and influenced by corrupt people at an early age. Had he been made emperor when he aged and became wiser and less corruptible, Shu probably would've lasted longer. Shu's downfall was due to a combination of things. And the corruptness in the Shu government was one of those things.
Yea, the earlier kingdoms are more epic than the later kingdoms. In the later periods, there's a shortage of unique generals. In Wu, the ONLY people that they have in the later periods that are worth of importance are Ding Feng and Lu Kang(FYI, he's Lu Xun's son). In Wei, Guo Huai, Xiahou Mao, Zhong Hui, and Deng Ai. In Shu, Jiang Wei and Liao Hua.
7:47 The Oath of the Flames. Cao Cao: We shall build a new land! Sun Quan: Under our names, we will be unstoppable! Liu Bei: Bring peace and justice to the lands! Cao Cao: Cao Cao! Sun Quan: Sun Quan! Liu Bei: Liu Bei!
Hm...The Emperor's Sword they Pass onto Each-other is kinda Cool...It even Appears in the Empires 7 Opening...Wonder why it isn't it's own fighting Style...
Sima Yi lived a very long time and did many great things. Sima Shi was ill and had a mole removed, due to Wen Yang making a mockery of the Jin army, all by himself, it worsened his condition and his wound reopened before it could heal. Thus Sima Shi soon died. Sima Zhao suffered an unknown illness and he died right after Shu fell. It's like the genius brothers were cursed to accomplish great things than die before they could realize their ambitions.
Not really, I always considered Shi in this game a good guy, who's fed up with the other Kingdoms incompetences, and their stupid pointless grudges that are destroying their country. What Shi represents, is wasted potential, he had so much potential so many dreams, so much he had to do but then fate snatched him away, before he could bring peace to the land, leaving his work to his brother, Zhao. If a guy talks like a villain, doesn't mean he is one. I actually think Shi is a hero in this game.
Maybe but that's still quite a few Jin and Wu adds and we all know they're compelled to give us Wei, Shu, and Other adds as well. Seeing how they forced Xiahou Ba into Jin, when he defects near the start of the story to Shu, doesn't give me much hope that we'll get real Jin or Late Era Wu adds for awhile.
I've played DW since 2,3,4 and 5 and I can tell ya I knew about jin taking over for years before 7. Also these guys lived nearly 2000 years ago, why hold a grudge now?
Ginny Sarina It was actually a test to see if Liu Shan was an issue. Liu Shan still carried the name of the Han, he was a political liability by having him in the capital or anywhere. He wanted to see if he would react, and when he didn't, he was deemed not a threat to the Sima clan or the future Jin Dynasty. Liu Shan was very smart by acting naive and uncaring to save himself from death.
Even though Liu Chan is to be blamed for Shu's downfall,he is too young to be a ruler at that time and he depended on a selfish minister to guide him.Peace.
Liu Shan knew that he couldn't win the war and if he resisted more people would die and so would he. So he surrendered and gave up everything, Shu's people ended up merging into Wei/Jin just fine afterwards.
@MrMarioSonicfan they don't show it as much since you know koei is very bias and prefers to make zhao yun or gan ning look bad ass but i would say they did a pretty good job making all the characters look pretty good this game.
do you guys know the song name when sima yi's die and give the sword to sima shi? it's really majestic....cold, creepy, but majestic I think...deep and dark... please tell me :(
Jiang Wei was a bad politician and he weakened Shu with his constant failed Northern Campaigns. If he had half the brains of Jiang Wan he would have exposed Huang Hao and had him removed. Luo Xian had the balls to challenge Huang Hao and for that he was sent to watch the border between Shu and Wu as his "reward" because Jiang Wei and co. didn't back him. When Shu falls he defeats Wu's invasion force and Wu's legendary Lu Kang and defects to Jin after he's sure Liu Shan is safe.
it's the wisest decision i suppose. shu is technically weak after liu bei's and zhuge liang's death (along with the others) and wei just kept on getting stronger and stronger with sima clan's rule. If they keep on resisting, more people would die and it would be in vain because eventually, Wei would be victorious. Afterall, Liu Shan is right, they are fighting for dead man's dream and refused have their own's.
...I hope you are kidding. Jiang Wei himself removed the best defenses Shu had because he wanted a big battle on open ground. Against an opponent that bested him again and again. You can't blame Shu's fall on Liu Chan in any other way than that he let Jiang Wei do essentially everything he wanted with the army.
I can't believe Sima Shi was taken out by an eye illness. IF NOT FOR THAT ILLNESS, SIMA SHI WOUL'VE DOMINATED. T___T Poor, poor Sima Shi. Here's a moment of silence for you. By the way, that ending was just epic. Epic.
@Asterisk2011 Well Liu Shan was nearly 60 when Shu collapsed. So really he was already pretty old; it was just his laziness and foolishness that caused it. Huang Hao did play a part in influencing Liu Shan though. Plus not to mention Jiang Wei's continued failed expeditions on Wei that were draining Shu's resources and exhausting all the men.
@Maragriz Well that was after the Capture of Cheng Du. The battle that was highlighted at the end of this game. There were a few battles after that before Sima Yan took total control.
not really in all actuality history states that cao cao gave part of the kingdom to sima yi it was from that that sima ya frormed his own kingdom and they are the ones who won give credit where credit is due and sima zhao is awesome
Hey, they actually tried to pronounce 'Sima' properly this time! Also Zhou Yu and Jiang Wei's voices made that epic ending scene kind of unintentionally hilarious...
Hopefully but Wu is missing too many late era officers so it might be until 9 or 10 before we get the real story. They skipped a lot between Wei's transition to Jin and are missing many important Jin characters like Wen Yang.
@MrMarioSonicfan ahhh you don't know the history that well i guess. during hu lao gate. lubu was accepting challenges from the allied forces and pretty killed anyone who stood in his way. I think it was when gongzan sun was about to get destroyed as well that zhang fei stepped in.it was pretty epic since all the big names got destroyed and no one expected much from zhang fei they fought to a draw. and guan yu joined in but it was still a draw, then liu bei joined in and lu bu was defeated.
If offended, then I apologise, it is just that with your explanation, I felt a little stupid. It is my own fault and my own ego which made me post such a disagreeable reply, when you were merely clarifying my post and explaning your highly accurate post.
if Liu Chan said he misses his country he might had been killed... there's also another saying that Liu Chan rather act like a fool than being killed by Sima Zhao....well, only god knows he's an idiot or an good actor
Chan was not dumb in history. Not clever, but not dumb. As for SSX... she was pretty horrid herself, kidnapping Liu Chan to be used as a bargaining ship for Wu.
I swear DW7 has the best cinematics. DW8 was not even close.

Agree. Some are too dramatic though
But i do like how they can connect battles with events in dw8

Sorry. Cao Rui, not Cai. Been rereading the fall of Jing and the battle of Chibi.
...I hope you are kidding.
Poor, poor Sima Shi.
"Ssŭma I"
The alternate spelling in our western letters, which is a lot closer than SEEma. SUma is closer.
that was a powerful ending
@Maragriz Well that was after the Capture of Cheng Du. The battle that was highlighted at the end of this game. There were a few battles after that before Sima Yan took total control.
Why is subtitles went on for the English dub cutscenes?
not really in all actuality history states that cao cao gave part of the kingdom to sima yi it was from that that sima ya frormed his own kingdom and they are the ones who won give credit where credit is due and sima zhao is awesome
nop..Liu Chan's mother was lady Gan(Liu Bei's first wife)
Hey, they actually tried to pronounce 'Sima' properly this time! Also Zhou Yu and Jiang Wei's voices made that epic ending scene kind of unintentionally hilarious...
Hopefully but Wu is missing too many late era officers so it might be until 9 or 10 before we get the real story. They skipped a lot between Wei's transition to Jin and are missing many important Jin characters like Wen Yang.
Sima Yi was a loyal subject who served 3 Cao Emperors. Hate his sons for their illoyalty if you want.
The Battle between Wei and Shu for Jiang Wei and Deng Ai and yep you got them all right :D
@MrMarioSonicfan
ahhh you don't know the history that well i guess. during hu lao gate. lubu was accepting challenges from the allied forces and pretty killed anyone who stood in his way.
1:23 wtf that sweet ass sword, is that random cutscene sword or in game sword, it's similar to cao cao sword
@kazenokoe80 The last one, jiang wei and deng ai's seriousness in their mission?
Yi died of natural causes(age), which usually manifests in at least some kind of sickness.
so heres what i'm wodering why none of the normal cutsences why just the cg ones
Aww that was depressing, but I have to say Zhao's facial expressions are the best. XD
Jin needs its Zhao Yun.... Give us the Legendary Wen Yang in DW8!
I FUCKING LOVE SIMA YI AND HIS TWO AWESOME SONS
jin is really like that
Holy shit, when did the Dynasty Warriors series get production values?
@tikachu9999 Sima Shi(Suma Sher) should have been the One Eyed- Ruler of Jin.
If offended, then I apologise, it is just that with your explanation, I felt a little stupid. It is my own fault and my own ego which made me post such a disagreeable reply, when you were merely clarifying my post and explaning your highly accurate post.
Sima Yi without a hat looks pretty cool.
@kazenokoe80 For the last one, it was Deng Ai who invaded Cheng Du historically. I don't think Zhao or Hui had much to do with it other than planning.
For some odd reason, sima yi looks so mooshy and cute!!! also I really think they should make characters age in this game.
Adds Xiahou Ba as a Jin add.
He defects in the first cg movie.
What a waste. He should have been a Shu add
So, this is Liu Shan after his surrender of Shu?
Jiang Wei's and Deng Ai's loyalty to their lords, perhaps?
I hope Dynasty Warriors 8 include the Conquest of Wu by Jin
if Liu Chan said he misses his country he might had been killed... there's also another saying that Liu Chan rather act like a fool than being killed by Sima Zhao....well, only god knows he's an idiot or an good actor
4:51 he kinda looks like crash bandicoot hahahah
Chan was not dumb in history. Not clever, but not dumb.
As for SSX... she was pretty horrid herself, kidnapping Liu Chan to be used as a bargaining ship for Wu.
HOLY SHIT IS THAT GAN NING? HES LOOK EVEN COOLER!! XD
Why all the jin leaders just get sick and give the sword to their sons or brothers, and this repeats?
@counterstriker1246 they turned a Strategist like "Dong Eye" into a Steroid Middle Aged Man.
