I have some of the fondest gaming memories when it comes to this game. And it was a particularly harsh period for me, since I was in the process of failing the 1st year at university (I later recovered, ofc) But this game was my staple meal back in those days, something to make your problems seem far, far away. Rome: Total War as well.
My favourite part is being the arch mage then doing the thieves guild quest line. You steal. From. Yourself. And the game comments on it in the journal.
In the playthrough for this video I activated the final Thieves Guild Quest by breaking into the Elder Scroll Library in the Imperial Palace with console commands for a laugh and getting boxed by a moth priest.
I hate when TH-cam glitches and ends up bugging video titles. Like in this case, it say " Oblivion is a Troubled Game" instead of "Oblivion is a Perfect Game"
The one thing I did miss from Oblivion is the Class System. I know Skyrim gives you the freedom to choose how to build your Dovakin, but at least being the Hero of Kavach it felt like you had some good starter bonuses. Then just starting vanilla. Baldur's Gate 3 really set the bar. I hope in the next Elder Scrolls we get the return of the class system or maybe something similar, I do agree something about Oblivion had that charm about it. Oh there were moments too in Skyrim. But balancing a Bethesda game is like trying to balance the universe, it just cannot be done with all the bugs and exploits. Balancing Stealth was always a problem as it was op as hell, same with potions and enchanting. My Argonian can one shot anything with a bow and stealth. Then again the Ai was thick and often thought an arrow sticking out of their head was just the wind. lol.
As weird and janky as it is I'd love to play Oblivion over Skyrim any day. It feels like every time Bethesda make a new title in the series it gets bigger and prettier but much more dumbed down
Easily one of the greatest games of all time. Memes aside, the main story of Oblivion actually bodies Skyrim's imo. Plus the Shivering Isles is one of the best dlcs ever made. Would love to see you cover Uncle Sheo's personal storyline!
Wait, you seriously think the graphics and faces aged BADLY? Dude the game is from 2006 and the graphics and the faces on my HDTV look better than most Xbox One Games for christ sake.
I still loved Oblivion for it is. But I have noticed there's quite a bit of flaws that had poked me out too much. Such as the stealth system, leveling and weapons. And down right character interactions. I am looking foward to Oblivion remaster if they are going to do it.

Oblivion has indeed aged horribly and has problems that wouldn't be accepted by today's gaming standards. That said, I will now go and replay it for the thirteenth time.
Tbh, the only reason I gave Skyrim a chance is because I saw funny clips of Oblivion, that I then looked up more of, then the algorithm was like “Hey, you like Oblivion? 5 months since this vid released and i keep coming back, oblivion is the first TES game i ever played back in 2013 (i didnt know skyrim existed) and it crashed five times within the tutorial and the emperor had no clothes. Bethesda are a very human game developer and that's why so many people love their games. I find all of them mind-numbingly boring. Having something give and take, be fun and annoy in equal measures is comparable to a relationship. It has it's faults but it's heart is in the right place...and i think that's the reason people love games like Oblivion. It's like a friend that's fun to be around and a complete let down at the same time...spend enough time with them and you'll forgive them for their downfalls and find a way to love them. And if you're super bored and lonely you might just find peace in a Bethesda game. I see them more as interactive books but I certainly don't find their games fun...they are all a chore if you're looking to complete them and none of the gameplay components feel meaningful...the only time I enjoyed a BGS game is when they made the Survival Mode for Fallout 4. It presented a level of risk not usually found and THAT was enjoyable...
I just brought ES4 Oblivion GOTY a week ago on Xbox 360. The leveling system has been a learning experience I was so confused in the beginning cause I kept getting 1 tapped by weak looking enemies. I’m not lowering the difficulty tho cause I enjoy a challenge. Skyrim is my favorite game so I’ve always wanted to experience the ones that came before it. If I had a PC or Xbox Series I would love to play ES3 Morrowind as well. When the music plays all I see are memes.

I wish I could play Oblivion on my own as the story, setting and gameplay does sound like a game I’d love and consider a classic, but the potato graphics and character models are SO distractingly bad that I just can’t keep playing for very long. And it’s weird cos I usually don’t mind even older games with technically worse graphics from the Xbox era but Oblivion is just SO distracting that I can’t take it seriously for long before I lose interest. That’s the main reason why I’m so excited for the Skyblivion project to be finished. Cos a game with Skyrim graphics and Oblivion’s story sounds like a dream… if Bethesda don’t fuck them by releasing a half assed remaster first if the rumour mill is right lmao.
Honestly, even though I hate bugs and such, especially when game breaking, I still enjoy Bethesda games quite a lot, and aside from better polish at launch and afterwards I wouldn't want them any different
Oblivion’s NPC dialogue is the best worst thing in the history of gaming. Mechanically, it’s absolutely dreadful. NPCs talk randomly and throw unconnected pieces of utterly random dialogue at one another with no through line or connection whatsoever. It’s a broken, downright pointless, feature that adds nothing of value and robs you of more immersion than it adds. But of course none of that matters because it’s fucking hilarious. 😂 The way they will announce things so proudly only to be met with a deadpanned “I’ve heard others say the same” is an unending source of comedy, it’s not hard to see why Harvest Dawn has lost its original track name and is now known throughout the internet as the Oblivion NPC music. It’s such a simple and yet consistently effective way of communicating the stiffness, irregularity and weirdness of a situation that sounds just like an interaction from this game. And really you can summarise a lot of this game that way. It might not be the best performing or in depth game of all time but it provides an experience that few other games can, and so well manages to straddle the line between a serious, well told story that people can actually get invested in and an absolute clusterfuck of comedic errors that you’ll remember laughing about for many years to come.
I didnt waste money on Starfield. I already figured it was going to be a sh*tsh)w so i avoided it. Kept playing Modded Skyrim and Witcher 3. And New Vegas. Dont get me started on the " Amazon" show...

Like I said, this game is one of the few examples where being an old game is a good argument to probably not play it, but man playing it is so funny.
If you're on PC, there's a character overhaul mod that makes the NPCs look more like Skyrim or ESO NPCs.
I actually think the Morrowind NPCs look better than the Oblivion ones, most Oblivion NPCs look like they have some kind of deficiency.
