@@davidterhune8277 she was more than a friend, she was my sister, we had her put down at home surrounded by all of us with her laying inside and looking out in the garden where she liked to lay outside.
She was the most gentle creature around, she loved everyone and never ever attempted to bite or be nasty to anyone (except for me when I'd try to brush her).
It still feels weird not having her begging for treats when we eat or just her simply laying in the most inconvenient places like doorways and in front of cupboards

I can confirm it takes plenty of time to grieve, i put my Buddy down March 31st and have been struggling still. When this movie came out on DVD, I got a copy of it through the mail from Netflix and took it over to my mom's telling her only that it was a dog movie starring Richard Gere (she is both a big Richard Gere fan and a trainer of dogs), so, naturally, she was excited to watch it.
The next day, I came back over, and she hit me. She said she cried the rest of the day.

Growing up I had an Akita and I can confirm that they are so insanely loyal to family, she was the best dog ever. I've seen this movie a few times whenever I need a good cry because I will absolutely always cry and be an absolute mess no matter what. Hachi reminds me so much of my dog and it just hits so hard. Fond memories and I miss her, but so happy that I have those memories to look back on. I always tell people that claim to not cry at movies, that if you don't cry for this movie you do not have human emotions.

    • @GetFitwithDogs
      @GetFitwithDogs 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

I have 2 Akitas, and I back everything you just said, 100%.
They bond so closely, and my boy is the main star of my TH-cam Channel. I take him with me everywhere that I can, that allows dogs. We are like peas and carrots, lol!
As great as Akitas are, they do have some drawbacks. First is the shedding. Second is that they tend to be naturally dominant, front of the pack type of dogs. This means that they're more than willing to put down other dogs whose energy they don't like and find disrespectful. They're also very independent and difficult to train. They have their own ideas on how things should be done. Takes a lot of work!

you have to use tomato juice to get rid of skunk smell. Their spray is potent. I can't really describe the smell, thought I have smelled many from a distance. If you ever visit the US and smell something extremely pungent while driving about that you can't explain, chances are someone hit or startled a skunk nearby.

To explain a few things about dogs:
-most dogs will instinctively chase a ball (its getting them to bring it back to you thats the trick), some dogs have no interest in chasing a ball
-dogs thrive on schedules, they learn when and what happens throughout a day, my dog used to understand when my mum would order a takeaway over the phone for example.
-a dog will bond with everyone in a family but will choose one person they absolutely respect as they view them as their parent.

More than a folk remedy, there is actually chemical science involved. The spray bonds to the proteins in skin so that simple soap and water isn't enough. However, a chemical in tomato juice helps break that bond.

    RAINBOW BRIDGE POEM
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

There's a wonderful theory in anthropology that wolves, and later dogs, sort of helped domesticate humans. Other primates don't display many of the important social behaviors that humans do, such as cooperative resource gathering, babysitting, herd-husbandry, den-building, and non-verbal facial communication. Those are things that pack hunters do, namely wolves. The idea is that our ancestors learned those things by watching the other apex-predators they lived around them, wolf packs. We occupied the same bio-niche as them, large land predator, and where usually one species edges the other out of the niche, we found a way to cooperate. Without those social skills, we wouldn't have civilization as we know it. They really were our first friends.

Nice Mary. Glad you delved into this criminally under watched & relatively unknown movie based on a famous real life story from Japan. This is one of the best films for a Dog or Cat lover you can watch. You didn’t have to worry about connecting with it as a self-proclaimed dog person. If you’re a decent human with some emotion & a heart, you can connect with it, but if you’re a Dog Lover or even a Cat Nut it’ll reinforce your love for them even more & it will hit much harder afterwards. If you’re a pet parent then you’ll likely end up hugging your dog or cat a little harder & longer after the movie ends.
I grew up a dog lover & while I thought cats were cool it never crossed my mind to adopt one for some odd reason. After the Army though, I fell in love with my roommate’s cat & then got two of my own. I didn’t even realize that I wanted & needed to adopt cats. So I am a full blown fanatical Cat Dad & Dog Nut. You don’t have to be exclusively a Cat Person or Dog Person. In fact, I love rabbits, chipmunks & squirrels too. My first cat named Chip was a black domestic short hair who was the sweetest, most affectionate & cutest boy. I love all cats (and dogs) but have a soft spot for black cats. Then I added to the family with Calvin, a Norwegian Forest Cat who had a white, gray, & tan mix of fur. Sadly, I lost my two boys a few months apart last year which absolutely floored me. I am still grieving but will adopt their future siblings soon as a homage to them & because I cannot imagine a life without furry pals. Now I am a crazy obsessed Cat Daddy who cannot imagine a life without Kittehs or Doggos
Cats & dogs are gifts to humanity. They bring us endless love, laughs & pure joy. They weave domestic gold into our lives. They are internet rockstars because they are cute, huggable & make us happy. What’s better than a cat’s face nuzzle or zoomie across the floor? What’s better than puppy’s eyes or a wagging tail? What’s better than your furry pals waiting for you to return home? What’s better than waking up with little furry heat pads sleeping beside you making it hard to get out of bed. Nothing. They make us better. If you see someone who is a cat &/or dog lover the odds are they’re a kind & decent person. So if you’re making a new friend or dating someone, I think it’s a huge green flag if they have pets or are a pet lover.
I watched Haichi with my ex-GF who was a vet tech & cat & rabbit Mom. Both of us were balling watching Haichi. It’s one of the most potent tear jerkers there is but in a good way. If you don’t cry from this movie, then you’re a heartless & soulless sociopath who lacks emotion. Actually, it’d probably be a pretty infallible sociopath test. I’m a yankee New Yorker but my heritage is half-Japanese & half-English. My Mom is from Japan. I asked her if she knew about Haichiko, & she replied “Of course stupid, everyone in Japan knows the story of Haichiko.” This is why I believe that most Pet Parents, not all, are good & decent people. They make us happy & keep is grounded. To me it’s a huge green flag if you’re a Cat or Dog Nut.
    🐱 + 🐶 ABSOLUTELY RULE!🙂👍
    PET PARENTS TOTALLY ROCK!😇👊🤟

I'm a grown man but I cried like a baby at "Hachi".
My little dog isn't athletic like Hachi, nor is he an escape artist like Hachi. He's getting old and he can't climb stairs, so he waits for me at the bottom of the stairs. My family says he whimpers quietly when I'm not around and never really settles down, but when I get home, he finds a spot near me and soon goes to sleep. He doesn't really play with me anymore, but I like the way he goes to sleep as soon as I'm near. It means he feels at peace when he's next to me.

Cats are awesome. Dogs are awesome - I love both, but I probably prefer dogs. I've had both cats and dogs die as pets, and so while I can just about get through reactions to this movie (you're the second reactor I've seen watch this), I don't think I could cope watching the whole thing on my own.
Dogs can show extreme loyalty and there have been so many other true stories like Hachiko, there's even a Wikipedia article listing prominent examples en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_individual_dogs#Faithful_after_owner's_death

18:10 All animal have a sixth sense because their other senses are very acute, mainly hearing and smell. They are able to hear sounds from very long distances and perceive how you feel just by smelling yourself.
21:07 We had 2 dogs. When my parents divorced, my mother took the female and my father kept the male. Mom didn't move that far, but it was a long distance from her new house to dad's house, and on the streets that had to be crossed to get there, many cars passed, but still the dog escaped from my mom's house several times to go to my dad's house and all those times she achieved to get there, and no one knew how she did it.

Skunks smell somewhere between a burnt rubber kinda smell, poo and tar mixed together to make a potent stank. They were bathing in tomato juice. The acid in the tomato’s helps rid the scent. It’s not a fun thing. Skunks are actually very cute and pretty shy.

If you get sprayed by a skunk, the best way to get rid of the smell is a bath in tomato juice. The juice neutralizes the smell somehow.

    • @cixelsyd40
      @cixelsyd40 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

The mythbusters tested this. Tomato juice does not react with the thiols in skunk spray. It just masks it enough for your nose to get olfactory fatigue from the tomato juice. Other people will still be able to smell both. Use a mixture of hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and liquid dish soap to neutralize it.
