Pro looking setup. I was thinking about a fiberglass cover you could make using the bag as a mold then painting it the same as the bike. make a shell thats removeable.

True, although I use it with soft paniers when I tour so it looks more like it fits ie. just looks like another bag...

I was considering attaching a fuel trailer with a quick disconnect Lol

You did this years ago, but I just bought an MT10 and I may try to duplicate your feat. Please check my understanding. 1) When the aux tank is full, the gas cap is actually holding back gas from escaping, right? Any challenges with your gas cap leaking? 2) when the aux tank is full, both lines hooked to the vents on your tank are also full of gas. Correct? You described the aux vent as it as just being an air line, but seems like the gas would seek its level in the vent line. Thanks so much for posting this way back when. It has given me a great starting point.

Can anyone clear up a doubt i have regards the Auxiliary fuel tank for my Gen 1 bike! Here in the video you have connected the fuel outlet to the air vent opening off the original factory fuel tank and the air vent of the auxiliary tank to the disconnected air vent tube! Clear, but I was thinking off a simpler way of connecting the auxiliary fuel outlet by a Y connection below the original fuel tank outlet, so both the original and auxiliary fuel tanks work in tandem! So instead of 15liters you now have 20liters! In this video I see no air vent in the original fuel tank once the auxiliary fuel is connected to this opening! Please help with your valued views! Thank you!

Hi Ashley. This setup is a gravity feed which is the simplest configuration. It means that once the auxiliary is empty, the main tank will then start to drain and uses the venting of the auxiliary. This way your fuel gauge works accurately and you still get the additional 5 litres (fuel guage stay at full until the primary starts to drain). The auxiliary tank must be placed "above" the primary tank. If you Y-connect below the primary tank, the fuel level will equalize meaning that without a check valve, your primary tank will overflow and/or you'll get a vapour lock.

I'd just attach 3 gallon (11L) square black gas can to back rail on long trips. When the tank shows empty, I'd empty the whole can to tank (4 gallon tank).

      Sure, that'd work.

I am trying something similar, but attaching to the overflow (venting) fitting did not work well. Even though the vent uses a 1/4" hose, the actual hole in the inside of the filler neck is extremely small, closer to 1/16 of an inch, if that. It took many hours to transfer a gallon, it is so small. I timed it.

You'll need to ensure your venting is connected correctly to get a decent flow rate. Trust me, a lot of fuel can flow through the overflow feed. Remember, in the real world your tank is full and draws from the auxiliary before it drains itself.

@@maxhdrm100 Thanks for replying. Unfortunately, the hole in the overflow vent is extremely tiny. I have connected the aux tank to it, left the cap off the aux tank and the main tank. Plenty of venting. The fuel enters the filler cap in a very fine forceful stream. The hole is just way way too tiny. Maybe they changed something on different years. Both ends of the overflow vent tube have just a needlepoint opening.

I ending up removing the filler neck plate and installing another barb fitting into it. Now it flows properly.

Can you share the model number of the tank? And why you didn’t go for a larger tank?

Your fuel line from your auxiliary tank will connect to your breather tube on the neck of the Vmax's fuel tank to create the gravity feed, then the breather from your auxiliary fuel tank connects to the breather you just disconnected from the Vmax. Remember to always fill the bike's fuel tank first, put the cap on and then you can fill the auxiliary tank.

TOO MUCH WORK.... SOME COMPANY MAKES A BIGGER TANK, AND YOU NEED TO REPLACE THE OLD TANK, AND INSTALL THE NEW MADE FOR A VMAX PLUS, FITS PERFECT....

    • @maxhdrm100

Thanks for your feedback, Paulo. The reason I did this is because a retrofit of the factory tank requires nearly a 50% disassembly of the bike and is very expensive. Nice mod though if you have the time and money.
