I found myself with a red ale in hand and watching your video. It was the perfect end to my day. Great job with the video. I don't need any of this stuff, but you did a good job making this youtube. I am sure you will add comments or a followup video to show how the brakes slammed you into the dashboard. ; )
Im a bit late to the vifdeo here, but what wheels were you using when ou did this setup? Im curious to see if the will still fit underneath of stock wheels if there is a spacer involved. Thanks!
@@JonnyBarajasthanks for your content it is very good! that would be fantastic. So far no one has made a comparison and on the forums everyone asks about that.
I know this video is like 4 years old - but for anyone watching this, please be a LOT more careful with the grease than this guy. You really don't want that anywhere near the pad surface, and you want to ensure it's not on the side of the friction material either. As the pad wears, even getting just a little bit of that grease on the brake surface will greatly impact your braking ability.
There's currently no direct fit bracket to accomodate the ats v rears on to an frs rear hub and disc. The only direct fit Brembo rears I could find are from a 15 sti.
I didn't. Currently, the second caliper is disconnected, but you can run a T-connection so both calipers can be connected. I plan on installing a hydro e-brake and wire it to the second caliper, when I get one.
Wait wait, woooo...How did you connect the second brake caliper to the system? Did I miss something? Did you use a y-connector to feed a brake line to the second rear caliper? How does it work for parking your car? Oh, you answered it below. So what is the advantage of having a second rear caliper besides removing the old style drum brake?
These are a custom 2 piece wheel I had made to look like a wantanabe Wheel while having rocketbunny specs before these were available. But as of now Wantanabe make this at a premium cost of course.
Mate this is a very helpful DIY ;) just one curiosity...in your opinion, this brake swap will fit under 17x8,25 et35 rims? i would buy this brake swap kit but i have fear this not fit under my wheels T_T thanks for the eventually reply :)
Mine are 17" step lip wheels, meaning my inner Barrell is 16". These should fit. As for the spokes, like with any wheel a bit of a spacer might be needed.
I have 17x8 Avid AV-06 wheels and I’m scared to buy these because I am not sure if the inner diameter of the wheel is enough to clear the caliper. Any suggestions? What is the minimum diameter that the wheels need to be to clear this?
Is this the same steps when doing the conversion on my VB WRX? I bought the caliper and pads and just got the CTSV brackets, just need to get more stuff but was wondering if it’s the same concept when doing the conversion?
Jonny The Car Doctor I have acura rsx type s and I wanna doing the same thing but with the acura tl type s brembo caliper do you never hear something about that?? Looks like the same process
nice vid,you could/should upgrade your lug studs get a longer one instead of buying or using spacers. which sometimes arent that safe, but it depends. someitmes its usefull tho, please get longer lug studs
I run conversion adapters that don't decrease or increase lug stud length from stock. I've been using them for 2 years since I got the Frs and haven't ran to any issues yet. They make it possible to run the custom wheels and line up my wheels with the rocket bunny.
Thank you for the great video. I got a quick question for wheel clearance. do the caliper will fit on stock rims? 17" for sure? my current wheel is 17" 35mm offset. so If the brakes are OK with stock 17" wheel, I won't have to worry about installing the brakes. Thank you so much!
Thank you for the answer :) Currently I have 15 mm spacers on my 4 wheels. so, my wheel specs could be 17 x 8j 20mm offset ( include spacer). TE37 style I already bought the calipers, I am so worried about clearance.
@@clickbijou Hey, i am actually curious if you ended up getting this bbk and if they fit with your oem wheels? where does it hit? would a spacer solve the issue?
@@joshuaszeto Hey, I think you may need the spacers with OEM wheel. it;s been a long time since I installed the break. However, at that time, my wheel offset was better than OEM wheel, I still needed the spacers for caliper clearance. now I am running Enkei NT03 wheel with 255-35-18, I still need 5mm spacers on front. just a heads up... a forum member on FT86club.com found that the evoX rears fit (almost) perfectly and he did all of the math in regards to finding a rear upgrade that will compliment this exact front upgrade, so as to keep the stock front/rear brake bias, and not have it change, upset the brake balance of the 86....
So after doing the CTSV caliper kit and then doing the evoX calipers to correct the brake bias you are still close to the cost of doing a proper front BBK. With a proper front BBK you don't need to upgrade the rears at all(except pads) and you are getting a proper 2 piece rotor as well.

17 inch wheels will clear these, only issue will be back spacing. Its best to run bbk compatible wheels or run a spacer if your wheel face doesn't clear the calipers.
Very awesome, detailed instructional video. Only thing I find issue with is removing fully functional ebrakes without finding a viable solution and running a second pair of calipers that aren't even functional. Imo, that just takes away from the credibility of an otherwise awesome video.
Don't have the time or the money to continue any further with the brake system. It would also be a pain removing the lines for the ebrake later than when the system is fully accessible.
I have seen people with IS300s swap in brakes from an LS400, which isn't a brembo, but it's definitely a cheap big brake kit you could look into for your IS.
What wheel specs? Ive been reading you have 16" inner barrel i just wanna know if they have clearance issue. I run 16s on steel rims on my winter setup. I know i have to run hella thick spacer
Are the STI rear brembos the same dimensions? Heard that the 04-07 are different. I have the pp Brz already but going to run a dual caliper setup in the rear. Looking for a second set of brembos to run with my srs dual caliper bracket but not sure if I need the torque solutions adapter as well
Right, you've removed the mechanical parking brake and fitted a second set of hydraulic calipers, which are not connected to anything yet...?! Do you have Hills in Arizona?!! How do you stop your car rolling away when parked? Relying on the drive train to hold the car is not wise, especially as you mentioned cracked drive shafts in your previous video!!! It's clear you have produced a well thought out instructional video, but it's a shame that you haven't applied the same amount of thought to what you are actually doing to the car...!! If you're modifying the brakes get all the parts to complete the work, don't stop half way through because it's expensive!
The rear calipers are in a separate loop for a future hydro ebrake used primarily for drifting, an should be functional once I get a chance to find a cheap hydro.

When changing brake lines, all the brake fluid flows out and needs to be replaced.
