  • If you want to fish offshore in a single-engine boat, a Center Console from 23 to 25 feet may be the best boat for you. With today’s very dependable outboards, a large single powered center console makes a lot of sense. We feature the Sea Fox 246, Dorado 25 and the Sea Hunt Ultra 235 SE.

    Its all about the right gear and the right skillset. If you're a novice boater looking to go offshore in your brand new boat, ignore this program, take some charters, and see whats really involved. You don't get into this to save money, but you can still maximize efficiency. my tip, buy a whaler second hand. Let someone else take the depreciation hit. I currently run a 190 outrage out to about 40mi on the good days, but the boat can take a lot more than i can. Single engine, 64 gallons so about 320 mi range, holds a 160 yeti and with a t-top I'm bringing up to 16 rods with me, oh yeah, it can't sink, and when it swamps it'll stay level. Not much you can't do with it, and so long as you don't try to overpower the conditions you'll be fine.

    That livewell on the SeaFox sure looks like it’s awkward to lean back to get bait from.

    What a joke! You guys completely omit the most important things on an offshore boat! When you're fishing offshore you care most about SAFETY in any conditions. You want redundancy. Look at the best offshore boats. Contenders, Regulators, etc. You want a sharp DEADRISE and built solid so it doesn't smash itself apart in high seas if the weather kicks up while you may be literally hours from safety or another living soul! You want freeboard and a big bow flare to keep you dry. You want twins for redundancy. Yeah outboards are almost as reliable as car engines now. But if your car breaks down, you can call AAA and wait at the side of the road. If your boat breaks down while you're 65 miles out, you can't call for help, there may not be anyone around for miles, and if weather kicks up it can swamp or capsize and kill you. The bullshit you focus on is nice but just fluff compared to that. Forward seating, transom doors, even livewells and fishboxes are secondary. If you don't care about the features that really matter why don't you just buy yourself a big pontoon boat and retrofit all the seating and live wells and fishboxes and rocket launchers you want to it? They're cheap, you will have all those "vital offshore features" and enough space to fish 15 of your friends and a pool table if you want.

      gloxxify l don’t get your panties in a knot. Not all those things you listed are a necessity. All these things are creature comforts. Not every boat needs twins or deep v or freeboard. It’s all situational and what you want in a boat. I have been 35+miles offshore in a 17ft Boston whaler. First part of being safe of the water if heading offshore is to have a good idea on weather patterns for that day.

      Redundancy doesn't always help you. A failure can happen in a common to both engines area like fuel or DC power or even a hydraulic steering line.

      Alright I want everybody to settle down! These guys were just trying to inform us of the family/offshore connection the boat building industry is incorporating. They spent a day doing it and they did a good job. Don’t criticize someone’s video if you don’t like it. Go and get three brand new boats from three different builders and take their boats out and test them for a day. Give us a better video in your opinion. We as consumers will take bits of info from everyone posting to arrive at what meets our needs. You can have the safest boat in the world but that does little good if you’re an idiot. And this video was about options. This wasn’t a safety video. Everyone is responsible for their own safety. That being said, when that dude said get an old pontoon and retro the seat storage as bait boxes and add 15 friends and a pool table I busted out laughing. I didn’t like the angle he was coming from but that comment was funny as hell. So I got good info from all. Thanks for sharing.

      @@elks270They do a nice job on all of their videos, but I’ve watched dozens and have never heard them say a critical word. High production value, great walkthroughs, but they definitely don’t give all of the information. Closer to a commercial than Consumer Reports.

    Ok, serious question for you Sea Hunt owners. He says in this video you can't use a bow mount trolling motor on the SH 235. Why? Why won't a 112lb, 87" Minkota work on a SH 235?

    • @FLSportsman
      @FLSportsman  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for watching the show R H. I believe this episode was filmed back in 2015 and trolling motors had not yet evolved with long enough shafts for most high free board center consoles. Current long shaft trolling motors would definitely work.

    3:48 "What if just you and your wife wanna go? All you'll want is a single engine. Remember you are working out of one wallet..." ... wtf? Who made that a law?
    If you are looking to buy a 25 foot, single engine boat and your woman/wife is not bringing her money to the table.. You are working out of a "none-to-one ball wallet"!!
    Man up!
    If you are making enough money to discard your wife's paycheck as "funny money"... you are not looking for 25 foot boat.. unless you need a tag-along for your real boat or your kids needs a practice toy...

    That dorado is an absolute beast! But the price of that boat is insane. I can buy a 25ft contender for the price of that dorado. Sadly.

      But a Contender has a plain looking layout and good luck when bottom fishing, you’ll be rock and rolling.
