That answered a lot of questions I had about the blurred lines between these two styles of boats. Most of the fishing I plan on will be shallow or mainly calmer water in the Gulf where poling can be a real possibility so a larger flats boat is what I'm looking for
This is an excellent video that is very thorough and well produced. I'm on the fence between a bay boat or skiff. It's going to be a Hewes Redfisher 18 for me. I have the off shore covered with my Sailfish 2360. I watched your other video comparison of TPS vs Skiff. Impressive and well done, Thanks.
Very helpful video, thank you. I'm on the York River near Mobjack Bay and the Chesapeake Bay and trying to determine if a flats boat like yours will be a good fit for fly fishing and these waters.
I think it depends on where you fish most of the time. Where I fish (lower Laguna Madre in far South Texas) is extremely shallow. You can fish a traditional bay boat but you won’t be able to get in and out a lot of areas. Most guides down there run flats boats.
Came here to learn more about boats, glad I chose this one 👀
Very nice well put together video. I have a Hewes RF16 myself and I love it.
Thanks! The 16 redfisher is a great boat, especially if trying to store your boat in the garage.
90 115 plenty on a smaller rig. That’s the same as my alum
17’ and a 60. Drafts about 5” tlra yam

Sounds like a good fit!

Appreciate the kind words! I love my Hewes 18 Redfisher, it’s a great boat!
Thank you for sharing, sir. God bless you.
There’s also the hybrids out there. My release backcountry has a 18 deadrise and it’s a flats boat.
For me the biggest difference is if you prefer sitting or standing while driving
That’s a big difference! My Hewes has an adjustable helm that helps when I feel like standing but you can’t beat a leaning post!
Super helpful, thank you

I’m not super familiar with that area but if you are looking to get into some shallow water it might be a good fit!
does she come with the boat?
No 😭
Great video!!!
Thanks

Absolutely, if you need to get super shallow, a Flats Boat or skiff is the way to go!

That’s the key! But what if you don’t have any friends 🤔
