I went to a Quaker college, and it was, as Marilyn would say, “a TRIP”. Quakers have believed in equality between genders and races from their inception, and we learned about missing texts and books from the Bible that you mention, for the reasons you mention. The quakers also taught that: - the word that is used to refer to God’s pronouns as He/Him was actually a gender neutral word that they chose to translate to he/him because they thought it/they/them was offensive. *eye roll* I think choosing the masculine pronouns and taking the feminine essence out of the God they teach is what is offensive (I wrote that all out for males who might not pick up on that 😂) - the reason Eve could come from Adam in the creation story was because when Adam was created in God’s image, they were 1 gender neutral person, like god. - one professor was a scholar who believed that many of the books/letters written by Paul and John had lots of sections where the way they write/speak changes in ways that make it seem like they didn’t write the sections, so he believed many of the words in the Bible were altered from what the original author’s said (by the Catholic Church). Wouldn’t it be nice if this equality believing, nonviolent version of Christianity was the one informing the politicians and judges trying to make the whole country look like their church? …Still turned out to be an atheist who thinks some Buddhism stuff is cool, btw, so learning all that cool stuff didn’t stop me from being tipped away from the faith.
