Today, I’m answering the question, ‘can vertigo be mistaken for anxiety?’. Vertigo and anxiety occur in the same area of the brain stem, which can make it hard to determine which one you may be experiencing. The best way to find out how to tell the difference between vertigo and anxiety is to be seen by a corrective chiropractor.
Vertigo is a feeling of being off balance. If you have these dizzy spells, you may feel like you or that the world around you is spinning. Whereas extreme cases of anxiety may lead you to feeling dizzy or lightheaded.

Wow, I"m amazed to see even a hint of an answer to the very question I'm raising for the past year... "Is it vertigo, panic, or anxiety?" - I've had some crazy scary vertigo these past years, but it changed after I had Covid in January 2020. Stayed home to treat myself, was sick for 4 weeks. By March a cardiologist put me on Amlodipine Besylate for high blood pressure, and Atorvastation for high cholesterol. I'd get dizzy shopping, start breathing fast, and get so scared that I couldn't finish shopping. Sometimes as I start driving away from home, I feel like I should turn around and go home because I'm afraid I'll have another vertigo attack. Sitting in restaurant in February it got so bad we had the waitress pack our meal and I went to the E.R. - they gave me meclazine, ran some tests and sent me home with "vertigo" as the diagnosis. I had a brain MRI recently, it's all good, heart monitor for 48 hours was fine, but now I wonder why am I leaning to the left all the time? When I push a grocery cart I feel like someone is pulling it to the left. My memory is getting worse than ever. Oh, I'll be 68 years old in a few days. - On the bright side, I went to Physical Therapy recently for 8 weeks and he treated me for Vestibular Vertigo. Eye exercises DO help. I've been sleeping comfortably in a recliner for 3 years because I have GERD and hiatal hernia. When I had ovarian-cysts surgery in 2019 they found I have Sleep Apnea, so I snore horrendously. I've yet to get any treatment for that. I'm falling apart, doctor. Lost motivation, lack of energy... feel like I'm nearing my end. Should I be on these fancy medicines?

Im still waiting for a diagnosis for 3 months I have been dizzy, had body aches, chest pain & feeling sick my heart is fine, I have had mri of brain and 24 hour blood pressure and ecg so all fine but still got this horrible feeling daily like I could pass out. I have been in bed with a depressive episode for a long time (feel safe) & know it doesn’t help but I have had zero treatment I just keep getting told to get bloods done every 3-6 weeks as infection and inflammation markers are slightly higher. I keep fearing the worst & don’t want to go out I went for a haircut the other day got all sweaty and dizzy and actually had to tell barber to hurry up I need to go home & feel like I don’t have a life as the last 3 months have been horrible and im still feeling the same 😢

I've had GAD for a long time. With that, I've always had constant dizziness along with it. Had my ears checked and everything in between.(Brain scans as well) I've had been to doctors that gave me a med combo (Usually an AP + SSRi). The big thing I'd always notice is that, my dizziness would almost be gone, while on it. (Maybe just a little residual dizziness but tolerable). It helped about a month before it stopped working completely. I've tried a lot of different meds and have noticed occasionally it would help with the dizziness a lot.
Besides all that, It was nice to know the actual cause for it. I spent years thinking it was 'normal' to feel that dizzy. I also came to figure out I had DPDR which is probably a big reason that I have it. Can anyone else relate to feeling dizzy because of bad anxiety? (If you feel the dizziness comes on from a panic attack or anything that makes you anxious) Maybe this can help someone understand what might be causing there dizziness as well.

Hi! Your story seems very similar to mine. I've had chronic debilitating dizziness for months now. I've been to vestibular therapy, vision therapy, upper cervical care, etc. you name it, i've been. I've gotten all the tests done, and everything has been normal. It's so hard to live with and so frustrating that nobody knows how to help. I have also had GAD for a long time, and I actually started taking anxiety meds a few days ago. I'm on Lexapro. The only side effect I'm having is MORE dizziness which has been horrible, but I'm trying to push through because I hope it will help in the long run. Any advice?

@@zitamakai8666 I know when I started an SSRI, I'd deal with the extra dizziness. (Nausea as well) For me, I would take Ginger capsules and just regular motion sickness meds to help. Eventually those side effects went away. I take both of those every day and it seems to work for the most part. You can also start taking half of your Lexapro dose. (Just tell your doctor first) and the dizziness won't be so intense. I had to do the same when I tried Celexa. Hope it works for you.

And since having her I have not fainted but I have felt faint, whether I’m out in public alone or with someone, I feel like it could be anxiety? I don’t know but I just get triggered out of no where, and I feel scared, my heart starts to race, I don’t feel super dizzy but I feel like I am having a harder time breathing, I can’t focus on anything I just go into panic mode and the worst feeling is that I feel like I’m going to faint. I often have to sit on the floor in public and cry it out till I feel better. And often my eyes will go “starry eyed “ and my vision doesn’t go back for like 30 mins or longer… I am so sick of feeling like I’m going to faint and my heart racing the second I leave my house! I’m sick of feeling scared and that any stupid little thing just triggers me like it’s just subconscious thing now… no matter what advice people give me NOTHING helps. Once I’m feeling this way. Sometimes it’ll even happen at a very small scale while laying down ( since that’s when I feel the best ) and I’m not sure whether it’s anxiety, an underlying condition or a combination. I have bad posture and neck pain ontop of anxiety. Could that be the problem with the vertigo?

    Do stress cause vertigo ?

Absolutely I have GAD and just last week I been off balanced feeling weake and chest pressure I went to the ER all my labs are good, so its anxiety that causes vertigo , drink a motion sickness pill and use one patch behind your ear its efficient for 3 days

I have a question so i do have vertigo the problem is it mixed with my anxiety aswell ( and when im in complete relaxation i feel numbness in left or right depends on the day ) i do have pill to combat the vertigo but it just make it worst .
Now im excersicing and honestly its the best it actually helps my vertigo down but i have still the numbness feeling from time to time .
Im confused my doctor is confused he said it might be because you are panicked when you are having you vertigo and i do agree i am waaay panicking the problem is the numbness i feel when i m in bed ( and when i rest my head have too much pillow and make my neck slanted in an uncomfortable possition but that how i get a sleep )
    .
    Thankyou for any advice

@NithinSpark honestly you can't do anything the only thing i could tell you is do walks everyday it will improve and dont think about the numbness its much more better to make yourself busy and also visit your doctor so he can suggest you to visit the psychologist .
The syntoms can be a long battle it might take weeks months or years, so please be patient with it im lucky mine is going better 3 months having it

I have been suffering from vertigo for 6 years. However my all reports are normal. My doctor says it might be due to the Stress ? Is it possible

Idk what my condition is even the doc I hv been to didn't give me any hints ... I hv blackouts, I sometimes faint for 3 times a day but I don't spend much time unconscious it only last for like 10 sec. I don't know but I kept doubting that it's anxiety, however sometimes I can't sleep at night, whenever I close my eyes to sleep I feel like my heart is stopping for a moment then I wake up with rapid heartbeats 😩😩 someone to tell me what is this so I can work on it !!!
