The Knightling is a platforming action adventure where you play as an aspiring knight in search of their missing mentor, Sir Lionstone. Equipped with only a legendary shield, you’ll brave your way through the lands of Clesseia to become the unlikely hero.

The developers made this because they got irritated that the spinner from Twilight Princess was under-used. 😅
Heck yea!! I was sad when one of the BEST items in Zelda history was under used. Im definitely picking up this game!
The shield made me think of that item instantly! I wish it was more flushed out like this, it could've been the best item in Zelda

Some of the coolest Zelda items could absolutely have their own games made about them. I'd love to see someone make a game out of the beetle from Skyward Sword (as in "you summon a flying creature that you control in tandem with a character on the ground").

This could’ve been one of those trailers where the beginning animation looks really cool only for the gameplay to be completely different and nowhere near as interesting. I’m so glad that this is not one of those trailers. This game looks really good so far!
Yeah, I’m also glad the animation didn’t segue into it being a pixel art dungeon crawler or a deckbuilder or some other tired thing
@@Red_Sutter so many trailers that have a good-looking beginning animation usually just end up being a game with any of the overused indie genres like roguelike, deckbuilder, or dungeon crawler. They also usually have pixel art, but if not they have a generic or boring artstyle. And if they’re not a deckbuilder, they probably also have an isometric perspective.
This actually has none of that, the animation is accurate to the gameplay, and it looks fun.
Just noticed that while this game & trailer have none of the problems that I have with indie games, this was uploaded right after a game trailer that has all of them.

This is giving me old PS1/PS2 platformer vibes and I am here for it.
I loved this dev's last game, Pine. I can't wait for The Knightling!
The implications of that story made me sad lol. A lot of people here are saying it looks Zelda-esque, but the art style reminds me a lot more of Spyro and Jak & Daxter. I think I'll be a fan of this.

depends on what you classify as a metroidvania - there are definitely shield upgrades (ie the glider form), it is possible that you could unlock upgrades to the shield to access areas you couldn't previously to progress the story. Sure it would be a fully 3D game, but if your definition of Metroidvanias is the gameplay loop, not explicitly that it has to be 2D, then it might still be one.

Using only the shield as a weapon, I like that because the shield is mostly used as either a secondary weapon or as a defense-only tool.
Have you played Skyrim?? Shield bashing and unarmed battle is where it's at... Right now I'm mostly resurrecting the dead using the Ritual Stone power... I've had nearly 20 undead follow me on quests. It's too funny when I you have to drag them close together to resurrect them together... I made the game crash when I had too many of them together while snow particles fall in the background. Working on adding werewolf status to the mix. I originally wanted to be an imperial alchemist with the power of the voice of emperor to calm the enemies but here I am... At least I'm not addicted to Skooma- yet. 😅
well it looks like it can be used in those ways so it's not really saying much
Okay, this looks wild. And maybe more friendlier to kids. My kid loves BOTW but only plays it to shield surf around, and this one looks like it’s going to have it, and it’s perfect.
Art style, humour, charm is all very well done! I’ll follow this one..!

They need to change the sound for when he hits enemies though, it feels too weightless for such a heavy looking shield.

00:46 - "For a Knight has to be ready at the best of times, and most certainly at the worst, as the one constant in life.. is change." The delivery and that music was pretty good! Just replace the word Knight with "person" and that quote can hit deep and be relatable for all of us out there.
There are times where it's good and seemingly the best, but also, in life we have to be ready for the worst, as life is constantly changing and why we have to readapt and be ready to make the best of the challenges ahead.
