    I’ve been using the enigma for about a month now! I wear a lot of leggings or other pants that don’t utilize a belt. I hate belts. If I open carry, it’s a utility belt around my hips. The enigma has been a total game changer for me. I’m armed 24/7, basically. In the last month, I’ve done some crazy shit to include crawling around under an Rv notching 1” foam board to make Rv skirting for the snowstorm that just hit us. This sounds like a good method but I prefer the AK hug carry technique. Using a AK-47 (or 74) You put the barrel down one pant leg and the stock up near your chin, concealed under your clothing of course. To keep it retained you just hunch forward hugging the firearm with both hands crossed over your chest. To look less suspicious just wear a large puffy winter jacket and snow pants regardless of weather. If anyone asks, just tell them you have a stomach ache and are going skiing in the alps later. Works every time.

    Once again, Chris kills it. Haven't considered AIWB for my carry needs, I'm one of those guys he mentioned who have several guns for different things, despite working someplace where carrying whatever I wanted to work would be no problem.
    His presentation and examples were thoughtful and well reasoned, even for someone who isn't really considering using one. Thanks.

  • @bushmant6279
    @bushmant6279 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    For me, this has completely changed how I carry on a day to day basis. I work a job that requires a tucked in shirt as part of the dress code, so traditional AIWB was always difficult since even the tuckable options usually made the gun ride high enough to print badly. I would usually use a tuckable hybrid holster like a StealthGear, but then I would run into accessibility issues as I also spend a lot of time in my vehicle. This setup lets me tuck in easily and adjust the ride hight of the gun low enough to not print in a golf polo. (for reference, I carry a Glock 48)
    As an aside, I'd also really highly recommend the PHLster pro series holster here - lots of other good brands are out there for sure, but the attachment geometry makes more sense with their holster and the rounded end of the holster also helps prevent it poking you in the soft squishy bits as you move it around - I find it gives me a lot more freedom while staying comfortable than most of the other brands.

    • @theparalexview785
      @theparalexview785 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      An alternative for tucked shirt carry was the Bianchi 9R upside-down shoulder holster (and still is, if you can find one in good condition). I carried one for years under button-down tucked shirts. With tapered shirts it helped to wear a size larger, but with straight box cut shirts I just wore my usual size and left it slightly bloused. I don't think anyone ever noticed, as long as the fabric was opaque, especially patterned fabrics.
      The later models were the best, with spring loaded clamshell closures that were secure yet reasonably easy to draw from. However the 9R limited carry to snubby revolvers. Some were marked 9R-1 (sometimes with the word "Chief") for J-frame and similar revolvers; 9R-2 for K-frame or Ruger SP101 (the latter in DAO spurless hammer with the stock rubber minimalist grip has been mine for 30 years). That Ruger stainless steel is incredible and has never rusted no matter how much I sweat on it, including summer walking and jogging, although I do need to check the springs occasionally.
      My larger 9R can work with my J-frame Model 49 Bodyguard with shrouded hammer, although the Pachmyr style grip can make the draw a bit fiddly -- I usually need to shift the grip slightly after getting both hands on the gun. The original minimalist J-frame wood grips would actually work a bit better, although those can compromise handling during firing. Unfortunately that blued J-frame revolver has pitted from sweat a bit over the decades and demands a lot more care than the Ruger.
      With older Bianchi 9R holsters the original elastic back strap will be worn out. I replaced mine with clip-on suspenders which have lasted now for almost 20 years. If I wanted to use button-on suspenders I'd modify the leather shoulder strap, which is still in good shape on mine. The trick with leather holsters and straps is to avoid treatments or conditioners that soften the leather, causing molded holsters to lose their shape (and compromise retention) and straps to stretch. I used a liquid treatment that left a slightly glossy, lacquered finish that lasted decades -- but I made the mistake of wearing the rig too soon after treatment, which left a skin rash for a couple of days. Since then, no problems. Unfortunately I can't recall what the brand was or whether it's still available.
      There have been a few other upside down holsters that are equally concealable, but those use retention straps which I would not trust. And retention straps cannot work reliably with hammerless, shrouded or spurless hammer revolvers. I have a couple of old holsters of that type by reputable makers from the 1980s, but have never used them because they rely on Velcro retention straps. Velcro is an abomination for retention straps, especially for deep concealment purposes where the ripping sound would be a giveaway. Bianchi nailed the design with the spring loaded clamshell design.
      Anyway, very old school rig, including the limitation to a wheelgun, but one alternative for some clothing requirements, or as a backup under a uniform.

So getting use to “dressing around my gun” was going the best for me. Iv been trying to find a alternative but they all seemed subpar ether lose or unsafe. This seems to be a great solution. Thanks for your input and recommendations. Seems to be a great brand. I placed my order today and the Facebook group is a wealth of knowledge and helpful people.

It’s so refreshing to get content related to concealed carry (and other firearm matters) that skips the ridiculous machismo found in so many other channels and addresses the realities of self-defense for the civilian market. Fact-based content is a rare thing anymore, as is the integrity you clearly have. #luckygunnerforlife

    The Enigma is really a thoughtful product and I have no doubt it is now the best solution for a lot of folks who have atypical wardrobes as a part of their daily wear. As a tip if you're wearing this in a vaguely formal setting, if you regularly wear a belt and wish to wear this underneath, you may actually wish to get a slightly larger belt so you're not compressing the rig and making it tough to clear a tucked shirt. This really excels with tucked garments and makes tuckable strut holsters almost irrelevant. This with a J frame is easy mode for concealment.
    However, it's just not for me, at least with autos, as I desperately wanted it to work with my 365. I find its shape and ride height pull the gun into my groin and make drawing quite difficult. This isn't that big of a deal if you're going beltless on the trousers, as the material of your waistband should have enough give that you can just push through it. It might be more favorable for my case if it was more T-shaped than Y-shaped. I found the buckle liked to hop my waistband and either drag the pants down or get pulled upward and print. I have skin that irritates easily (like, the texture on the finger extension of a 15-round P365 magazine rubbed me raw from a day of driving and errands) and I find the belt to be quite irritating at its edges, as addressed in the video. The folks in the FB group really have made some awesome mods for this, though.
    I think the ride height issues may be mitigated by the light bearing model coming soon and I've got a stupid idea to try involving that and select holsters from JMCK and DSG. I'm also quite excited to see what they have in store for a comfort belt. In the meantime, it works with the city special holster and I'll be using it with that for the while

    I’m in my late 20s and consider myself still a pretty modern dresser. I wear straight jeans (slightly skinnier than boot cut) and I don’t typically wear a belt. My pants do NOT sag by any means but they do rest 1-2” below the part of my waist line that would be necessary while wearing a load bearing belt. That being said, it’s hard for my to Appendix carry and I find myself unable to successfully conceal without printing or some form of bulge around the zipper line. I concur with your statement, I find myself dressing around my gun.
    I got the standard enigma to see how it worked out against the tier 1 xiphos I just bought and it’s completely changed the game for me. I’m actually able to dress how I would like while having max efficiency on my concealment. From lazy dressing to Walmart to going out on runs, to casual dress, to fully dressing up. I’ve tested it all and so far it works great. Now it’s just up to seeing if it survives the text of time. But the quality of build seems like it’ll hold up.

It is even usable with lightweight Columbia Fishing pants that have a flimsy built in nylon belt. I can see why the Enigma is better for being active in lightweight outdoor clothing.

    As someone who always does beltless concealed carry, this looks promising. I currently use the Brave Response holster, which is like a better Belly Band. • @avwillis5269

      @@avwillis5269 I do also prefer the minimalism of the enigma over the clutch. My hangup is that it requires a holster designed for AIWB.
