Bingo. Games developers and publishers were forced to tske chances. Some good. Some not. Now, a few bright spots in the AAA market aside, well yeah, the struggle is real.

Facts. Plain and simple. There weren't ways to exploit players for money.

Exactly. Developers couldn't "add" to games post-release in order to squeeze every dime out of their audience through DLC and microtransactions.

I had the same thought throughout this video. This isn't just because of DLC content, either. There just had to be a certain amount of content and entertainment built into a game in order to get people to play without the option to play with a pool of 3,000 people online. The games had to be complete by themselves, and be able to establish a world with ongoing communication between the player and the gameplay, and this all had to be done without everything being multiplayer. I guess my point is that the game had to provide its own personality, while online multiplayer is a cheap way of injecting it without actually working for it.

And for this they got rewarded. From my understanding Spiderman sold really well (and probably still is). Why is it so hard for some companies to understand that the best way to sell a game is making it good and advertizing it well (sure Spiderman also got the Spiderman bonus but that's not all there is).

The lack of risk taking in 2019. Agreed. As much as I enjoy my ps4, I LOVE my ps2, and times like today when I pulled it out of my closet, dusted it off, and sat down to play NBA Street, Ready 2 Rumble 2, and Twisted Metal Black I found myself playing for the next six hours. I’ve been saying for the longest time that video games and the people that make them have lost touch with video games original purpose, to have fun!! Technology was limited in the early video game eras. We always used to fantasize about how cool it would be to play these hyper realistic games. As an older gamer I can honestly say it’s not all that I thought it would be. The games themselves now are undoubtedly beautiful. But a lot of them are way too complicated with many inputs and combos to learn to access more advanced more realistic movements or actions. I just want to sit down and play and have fun. Not have to attend college courses to learn how to play the game. Games have really become overwhelming for someone like me who’s a completist. There’s is way too much content. I miss the days of video game, arcade style of play. One of the main reasons I play is to relieve stress and have fun. Not to get more stressed by the sheer amount of tasks I have to complete or the ridiculous amount of moves or inputs I need to learn!!

rob lucci video games were meant to be exactly that, games. More is not always better. At the end of the day you should feel happy when you’re about to play a game not overwhelmed by the sheer insanity of content. I’m not saying I don’t appreciate it. It just feels a bit daunting to 100% some of the bigger games like gta or red dead.

I broke out the PS2 for my kids playing the old school games and they were more into the EA Big games especially SSX. They just love "Tricky" and all the Street games they call them Tricky Games😂 (2 ssx's 2 streetballs 2 streetnfls 1 streetsoccer 1 defjam). At first I thought it's something new to them or different maybe. But the questions were asked by the 9and10yrs "are these games on Xbox one....what about Playstation" "why they stop making Tricky games".... Then I sat wondered myself " why did they stop making Tricky games LoL 😂

The answer is real simple. Allow microsoft to put the street games on backwards compatible. Then use the numbers they make to gauge if it would be worth making a new title.
Worse case scenario is its not, and there ea access service has like double the content due to backwards compatible titles.

They won't care. They put Skate 3 on backwards compatibility, even re-enabled the servers and when the game got popular, they even went so far as to print a couple thousand discs for retail again. What happened then? Nothing. No Skate 4, no news, no statement, nada.
If Skate 3's huge success years after the release can't change EA's mind, nothing will for any other of their old titles.
Otherwise, they already would've reacted given the fact that there was a sizeable modding community that worked on NBA Street Vol. 2 giving it roster updates, improving the graphics. Modded versions like NBA Street Vol. 2 2016 or NBASV2HDR show that there's a big interest in the game still.

Melanie L. video game industry has been taken over by something called artificial procedural generation. it's literally algorithms that use A.I. to automatically generate the game content...so the days of teams taking years to painstakingly develop every detail into a well crafted world and experience....very rare now. now its all just being copied and pasted using licensing from other companies and procedural generation....so they seem to be mostly only puting out games that a regurgitated designs with just different skins or flair here and there. this is why almost every big title is still either broken or unfinished in its release form. because these computer generated world's pasted together have not had the bugs worked out yet. this is why sequels of games often are a dumbed down version of the original and they seem to take away good features and aspects that OBVIOUSLY could have been kept and improved on. the sales game now is: once a game makes a name for itself they just rely on the multi million dollar ad campaigns to sell it...and since there are so many people to buy their product, they don't even care about repeat customers or customer loyalty because they know they will still sell enough copies to the endless supply of kids who havnt figured it out yet. monopolies have ruined the industry.

Additionally, with sneaker culture being so intertwined with the sport and it becoming such a huge subculture, I'm sure big sneaker brands would throw money to be included in the game, thus making it more commercially viable. If your game was bad no one bought it. Now people buy games based on name recognition alone instead of gameplay which you would think that would have happened back then since we didint have TH-cam and social media back then and you would think it wouldn't happen now since we have TH-cam and social media to tell us how bad a game is. Damm, that really was emotional for me, here in Brazil, in the PS2 times, piracy was never a concern, and I was just a kid with my 14 years, here you would by the ps2 and win another 10 games because of the piracy (I'm not here to discuss it, it is just for context) and being Brazil, soccer is really big here and FIFA street was in the hands of every friend of mine that had a ps2, when FIFA street 2 was released it was my first original game, and, funny enough, my second original game was SSX on tour.
I had to sell my ps2 but I still have those original copies with me, I played the shit out of this games, I really miss playing with my friends for the absurd, fun, soundtrack, moves and all the little things that made all these games awesome.
I really don't like these traditional sports games but the Street series always worked for me.

I had pink eye for a week that grade...maybe grade 2. I rented this game and played all day at home everyday that week inbetween the drops my mom was putting in my eyes. The career mode was challenging but not too much for me at 7-8 years old. It had a skill curve with objectives like get so many dunks from 3point line off the opponets head and unlocked cooler moves or something else.
Great memory of having pink eye, thanks to this game. Thanks for the trip down NBA/NFL street games memory lanes...good stuff

EA blows man. Those sports games were actually the greatest sports games. Now we’re stuck with the same repetitive games. I’m sure EA would see some numbers if they released a new nba street rather than NBA live. 2k has live stuck in the dirt.
Edit: I literally just got to the part where you said it has tough competition in 2k and yes very true however they are already competing with them with Nba live so why not put down live and have a group of people who would put their soul into a new street game? Would get them a better chance against 2k I believe rather than live

    • @giftedx1391

Its so weird to me how they were ontop and just blew it. Also crazy how they can't grasp how to make a better game in live. I dont see how they dont understand that live is damn near a perfect game. The only thing that makes it a bad game for me is the stiff movement. Fix that and I feel live will be competing with 2k. Im addicted to basketball games. But after years of the same thing, I stopped playing 2k19 after 2 months which is crazy to think when I'm obsessed with basketball.

My teenage years was spent, on top of fighting games, playing stuff like NBA Street Vol.2 & 3, and SSX Tricky and 3. By far the most enjoyable EA games I ever bought. That was surely a different time when people were more focused on making great and crazy fun gaming experiences rather than just shit they can make their annual monopoly over, and the change of priorities surely paints the picture clear as day. I'm actually still amazed SSX 2012 even freaking happened, and even then that game was close to being butchered when it was first revealed by EA trying to make something no one that really enjoyed the franchises wanted. Now? Even if such games did make a comeback I would know for sure the soul that use to drive them would be gone from them, because EA is too darn focused on money to really care about making a truly defining experience.
...it's a shame, too... I miss my SSX girls Kaori Nishidake & Allegra Sauvagess and my NBA Street boys Osmosis and Bonafide... but to EA, all those names would remind them of are coffins next to all the other franchises and studios they buried long ago.... That is, of course, if they even remembered they were a thing to begin with.

Made a team of all wide recievers, made a qb that only ran the ball and couldnt be stopped, made a rb that that doubled as a defensive back. The memories are still there and despite my wishes they sadly will never make another one. ever. but we will get anotber battle royale game guys
