Bingo. Games developers and publishers were forced to tske chances. Some good. Some not. Now, a few bright spots in the AAA market aside, well yeah, the struggle is real.
I had the same thought throughout this video. This isn't just because of DLC content, either. There just had to be a certain amount of content and entertainment built into a game in order to get people to play without the option to play with a pool of 3,000 people online. The games had to be complete by themselves, and be able to establish a world with ongoing communication between the player and the gameplay, and this all had to be done without everything being multiplayer. I guess my point is that the game had to provide its own personality, while online multiplayer is a cheap way of injecting it without actually working for it.
Trust me, you don't want that. You will get a terrible frankenstein's monster telling you to pay a few dollars here and there to enjoy a game you already paid for.

Melanie L. video game industry has been taken over by something called artificial procedural generation. it's literally algorithms that use A.I. to automatically generate the game content...so the days of teams taking years to painstakingly develop every detail into a well crafted world and experience....very rare now. now its all just being copied and pasted using licensing from other companies and procedural generation....so they seem to be mostly only puting out games that a regurgitated designs with just different skins or flair here and there. this is why almost every big title is still either broken or unfinished in its release form. because these computer generated world's pasted together have not had the bugs worked out yet. this is why sequels of games often are a dumbed down version of the original and they seem to take away good features and aspects that OBVIOUSLY could have been kept and improved on. the sales game now is: once a game makes a name for itself they just rely on the multi million dollar ad campaigns to sell it...and since there are so many people to buy their product, they don't even care about repeat customers or customer loyalty because they know they will still sell enough copies to the endless supply of kids who havnt figured it out yet. monopolies have ruined the industry.
Melanie L. hold up these games exist ? like on pc or what ??? and if that’s the case someone needs to make servers for that shit so we can run it online
I’ve been saying for the longest time that video games and the people that make them have lost touch with video games original purpose, to have fun!! Technology was limited in the early video game eras. We always used to fantasize about how cool it would be to play these hyper realistic games. As an older gamer I can honestly say it’s not all that I thought it would be. The games themselves now are undoubtedly beautiful. But a lot of them are way too complicated with many inputs and combos to learn to access more advanced more realistic movements or actions. I just want to sit down and play and have fun. Not have to attend college courses to learn how to play the game. Games have really become overwhelming for someone like me who’s a completist. There’s is way too much content. I miss the days of video game, arcade style of play. One of the main reasons I play is to relieve stress and have fun. Not to get more stressed by the sheer amount of tasks I have to complete or the ridiculous amount of moves or inputs I need to learn!!
rob lucci video games were meant to be exactly that, games. More is not always better. At the end of the day you should feel happy when you’re about to play a game not overwhelmed by the sheer insanity of content. I’m not saying I don’t appreciate it. It just feels a bit daunting to 100% some of the bigger games like gta or red dead.
@@freewillie26 - I think he means the game "Journey." It is a fantastic short ~2 hour single player game. If you are looking for sports might I recommend "Rocket League." Basically Soccer but with cars. Very simple and incredibly fun.
that's why there is no more mercenaries game EA bought pandemic studios and after the 2nd mercenaries failed to meet the crazy rating score that was it. pandemic made some damn good war games that put modern day Call of Duty to shame.
At least we can still play SSX 3 and SSX 2012 on the Xbox One. I'd love to see the first 2 games (especially Tricky) hit Xbox Backward Compat. It could be cool to get a reboot with new graphics that returned to it's roots, but I'm sure it would fail to live up to the hype and nostalgia of the original games.
I was just discussing this with some friends 2 days ago, EA games were in EVERYBODY'S library in the PS2 era, Street, Def Jam, SSX, NFS, Burnout.. now they're struggling to sell Battlefield V. They killed themselves because they stopped making fun games
I broke out the PS2 for my kids playing the old school games and they were more into the EA Big games especially SSX. They just love "Tricky" and all the Street games they call them Tricky Games😂 (2 ssx's 2 streetballs 2 streetnfls 1 streetsoccer 1 defjam). At first I thought it's something new to them or different maybe. But the questions were asked by the 9and10yrs "are these games on Xbox one....what about Playstation" "why they stop making Tricky games".... Then I sat wondered myself " why did they stop making Tricky games LoL 😂
Father of the year award salute G keep older gaming Alive! I have the ps2 and regular Xbox still at the house hooked up the younger kids in the family love that ish. I still get on ps2 and play bully.
The Street Series used to be ON POINT. I'm honestly giving EA one more chance with ANTHEM before I just wash my hands of them. The 1st loot box I see Im out.
I think that remastering NBA Street Vol. 2 and use that to test the waters of the market is a great first step to revive the series. Additionally, with sneaker culture being so intertwined with the sport and it becoming such a huge subculture, I'm sure big sneaker brands would throw money to be included in the game, thus making it more commercially viable. I also just want to dunk on some people in the most ridiculous ways again.
I owe you 6 minutes, my dude. Where you at so I can service you however you’d like. In a clean way, of course. Maybe a 6-minute car wash? I’ll be waiting.
I think Blitz: The League fell off because they didn't have the coveted NFL license. You could also blame EA for that since they snatched exclusive rights to the NFL because NFL 2K was a far better game for half price than Madden and EA could only win by cheating. Because of that, they killed Blitz too.
Man, those were my favorite games growing up. They added such an awesome dynamic to sports games. Another one that was really good was NHL Hitz, which took out all of the boring parts of the sport, and made it non-stop action packed hockey. More great sports games to try out if your burnt out of Madden or 2k or other sports games: -NBA Jam -Blitz -MLB The Bigs -Pretty much any Mario sports game - Steep (free right now for PS Plus) Its sad that company's are taking themselves so seriously nowadays, and so afraid to take risks.
EA was actually a great company until, Like you said, they stopped taking risks and started monetizing EVERYTHING. the music you have in the background is lit 🔥
Clumsy Trout man....midway needs to make a comeback and make some nba games. they could easily reinvent the street series and also bring back ready 2 rumble for boxing fans! give EA a run for its money and maybe they will step it back up!
The problem is company's back then didint know how blind people were. Now they realize no matter how much shady shit they do people will still buy their game. Back then that wouldn't fly. If your game was bad no one bought it. Now people buy games based on name recognition alone instead of gameplay which you would think that would have happened back then since we didint have TH-cam and social media back then and you would think it wouldn't happen now since we have TH-cam and social media to tell us how bad a game is. But people will be people and still buy nba 2k when it's nothing but a fee to pay experience. Every company lives all the motto " $60 is not enough"
Damm, that really was emotional for me, here in Brazil, in the PS2 times, piracy was never a concern, and I was just a kid with my 14 years, here you would by the ps2 and win another 10 games because of the piracy (I'm not here to discuss it, it is just for context) and being Brazil, soccer is really big here and FIFA street was in the hands of every friend of mine that had a ps2, when FIFA street 2 was released it was my first original game, and, funny enough, my second original game was SSX on tour. I had to sell my ps2 but I still have those original copies with me, I played the shit out of this games, I really miss playing with my friends for the absurd, fun, soundtrack, moves and all the little things that made all these games awesome. I really don't like these traditional sports games but the Street series always worked for me. It would be awesome to see a new FIFA street or SSX. Tnx for the video :D
I'm also from Brazil and I also had FIFA street. It was so fun that it got me into NFL and NBA street, and that got me interested in other sports too, and this video was nostalgic and also sad. I hope these games could come back, but then again, I don't see that happening, realisticaly at least.
Oh man, I remember my cousin had NBA Street vol. 1 & 2 and NFL Street. During the summers of '02, '03, '04, and '05, he would swing by my house and we would spend the whole day just playing these games. These games were the epitome of fun sports games. All you had to do was put the disc in and play away.
The "risks" that developers take with creative games is just them looking for games that will connect with audiences and that they can turn into franchises. Also the street games were heavily focused on multiplayer, they just had really good solo modes too.
I love how poetic and narrative your videos sound my man. The music, the content, the passion in your voice. Please keep making videos. When I’m feeling anxious, ill sometimes turn on one of your videos and just learn something new. Respect.
EA should take the park completely out of live and put into it's own game, like NBA Street. And let the consumer transfer their player from NBA Live to the new platform.
SSX was my game! It was by far the only thing I would play if I could only play one game after gradeschool from my ps2. The last game I got to play beyond sane amounts was Tricky, and unfortunately I missed on the most recent game because I skipped that whole console generation. I have been waiting for YEARS for a new game of that kind. Steep was a nice reminder of those games, and it was fun for a short time, but it definitely wasn’t the juicy treat the SSX series was
Dude you don't need to setup/foreshadow your main point in your own video over and over again. ie "This lead to a shift in ea that would lead to the end..." x1000
This video reminded me of why I drifted away from gaming. The street series were always some of my favorite games. I would buy Madden every year, but sometimes I didn’t want to play NFL football, you know? I wanted to play football the way I did as a kid which Street let me do. Same deal with NBA Street. It’s sad that a lot of games have it so you can just pay to have what you want instead of grinding through and earning it. I guess you still can, but it doesn’t feel like that’s what you’re supposed to do anymore.
When I hear that song intro. I close my eyes and my mind drift back to a simpler time. Memories flash back , faces and voices stir my feelings... That's y I'm watching this a second time
My teenage years was spent, on top of fighting games, playing stuff like NBA Street Vol.2 & 3, and SSX Tricky and 3. By far the most enjoyable EA games I ever bought. That was surely a different time when people were more focused on making great and crazy fun gaming experiences rather than just shit they can make their annual monopoly over, and the change of priorities surely paints the picture clear as day. I'm actually still amazed SSX 2012 even freaking happened, and even then that game was close to being butchered when it was first revealed by EA trying to make something no one that really enjoyed the franchises wanted. Now? Even if such games did make a comeback I would know for sure the soul that use to drive them would be gone from them, because EA is too darn focused on money to really care about making a truly defining experience. ...it's a shame, too... I miss my SSX girls Kaori Nishidake & Allegra Sauvagess and my NBA Street boys Osmosis and Bonafide... but to EA, all those names would remind them of are coffins next to all the other franchises and studios they buried long ago.... That is, of course, if they even remembered they were a thing to begin with.
Ah I remember those games. Played it at my cousin's house all the time. On our Playstation 2s we also played San Andreas, Vice City, Scarface, Spider-Man 2, Ultimate Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot 2, Kingdom Hearts, Wu-Tang: Shaolin Style, Mortal Kombat games, Final Fantasy, Ultimate Alliance, Tekken, etc. So many good old games I wish I could go back in time and play again lol

Melanie L. video game industry has been taken over by something called artificial procedural generation. it's literally algorithms that use A.I. to automatically generate the game content...so the days of teams taking years to painstakingly develop every detail into a well crafted world and experience....very rare now. now its all just being copied and pasted using licensing from other companies and procedural generation....so they seem to be mostly only puting out games that a regurgitated designs with just different skins or flair here and there. this is why almost every big title is still either broken or unfinished in its release form. because these computer generated world's pasted together have not had the bugs worked out yet. this is why sequels of games often are a dumbed down version of the original and they seem to take away good features and aspects that OBVIOUSLY could have been kept and improved on. the sales game now is: once a game makes a name for itself they just rely on the multi million dollar ad campaigns to sell it...and since there are so many people to buy their product, they don't even care about repeat customers or customer loyalty because they know they will still sell enough copies to the endless supply of kids who havnt figured it out yet. monopolies have ruined the industry.

NBA Street Vol 2 is still my favorite basketball game ever!!!
Not to get more stressed by the sheer amount of tasks I have to complete or the ridiculous amount of moves or inputs I need to learn!!
sounds like you wana play journey
rob lucci video games were meant to be exactly that, games.

Steep is so boring
I just got steep because its free with ps plus, its fun and looks nice. However SSX looks way more fun.

I was just discussing this with some friends 2 days ago, EA games were in EVERYBODY'S library in the PS2 era, Street, Def Jam, SSX, NFS, Burnout.. now they're struggling to sell Battlefield V. They killed themselves because they stopped making fun games

Not really.
I also just want to dunk on some people in the most ridiculous ways again.

same question is what happend to Blitz: The League?
Loved that game. Nothing more satisfying then laying down some hitsticks and seeing a damn x-ray of dudes collar bone snapping 😂
I think Blitz: The League fell off because they didn't have the coveted NFL license. You could also blame EA for that since they snatched exclusive rights to the NFL because NFL 2K was a far better game for half price than Madden and EA could only win by cheating. Because of that, they killed Blitz too.
Midway shutting down had a lot to do with no more Blitz The League games.
No Midway, no Blitz. Shame, it pretty much taught me everything I needed to know about the anatomy.
@@TnD_BigJax Mom was not a huge fan of me playing that game when I was a kid because of all the swearing and brutality. Dad never minded.

NBA Street V2 is such a sweet game.
NBA Street 1 & 2 are some of the most playable pickup sports games... takes me back to NBA Jam arcade 💯

He moves his hand at literally every word he ways
The "risks" that developers take with creative games is just them looking for games that will connect with audiences and that they can turn into franchises. Also the street games were heavily focused on multiplayer, they just had really good solo modes too.

EA should take the park completely out of live and put into it's own game, like NBA Street. And let the consumer transfer their player from NBA Live to the new platform.
