    You spoke about CNAs and what makes a good one, but sometimes nurses turn good CNAs into bad ones. Nurses who are too demanding, don't pull their own weight, act like vitals and wiping ass are so beneath them and nurses who constantly refuse to acknowledge the hard work CNAs do can make the great ones burn out and not want to do anything. Nurses don't realize that if they want their shift to go well, they're a part of their own experience that day.

    2:01 "It is not the same as a fast food job; this is a job where people's lives, health, and safety is on the line."
    Sadly, most fast food places should probably also be considered places where people's health, lives, and safety are on the line.

    The other day I had a family member tear me a strip on a night shift @ 0300 hours. Patient was obviously in a really bad state of no recovery and the family member wanted me to provided 1 on 1 care when I have 9 other patients to care for. The family member was looking for a miracle expecting the patient to come back to 100% overnight. I explained the plan of care, the life saving measures, assessed the patient thoroughly, even pulled family aside in the hallway to explain all this thoroughly that the patient it getting the best care that we can provide. Family member thinks we're letting the patient die in a corner overnight.... NO I't's night time... People need sleep to recover.... I had to call the resident just to explain it to her further. And she even gave the resident hell. There might have been some mental issues with the family member. And finally the doc came in @ 0700hours in the morning to have a talk with the wife while i was there to just listen. The doctors are awesome @ dealing with family. I felt so much better after the doctor came in. She Literally told the family member to back off because she isn't helping and she is interfering wih they care being provided and not to threaten or anger staff. And she stepped back in her place and apologized to me for th enight of hell she had given me.

    Thanks so much for #8!! Before I started nursing school, I was a medical mom. It's so hard when a patient (or patient's parent) is trying to talk to you about a medical condition that you are just pretending to have heard of before. They KNOW when you don't know, they live it. Inspire confidence in your patient, if you don't know, say you don't. They are more than happy to help you learn and understand.

    Heather, I am less than one year away from graduating and thinking about going out into the field with the knowledge from school alone is concerning and alarming. A scenario in Sim lab shook my confidence and made me question my abilities. I am so happy that you made this video, because often times, knowing that there are so many things we don't know is frightening and stressful! Its good to know that there is a support system in place and that you can feel free to be transparent about your knowledge set in order to be safe and competent and serve the patient well. This has been so helpful and calmed my nerves. I feel so much better about graduating soon. Thank you!

    It’s all about perspective, no matter what job or rank you have in healthcare. It is an honor to serve on any level, and I have done that as a Tech during Nursing School, an RN with a ADN, and an RN with a BSN, and finally, I left because the “business” of Healthcare took over, now I work as an Engineer, and my job sadly resembles nothing of Nursing because it SHOULDN’T be a For Profit Business. Now I am at peace. I’ve been set free, and I done my time. So if you feel stuck, just know there’s more out there,... and I make 3x more than my highest rank in healthcare...
    Don’t feel like you are shut in.

    #1 spoiling your CNA that you work with :). Spoil them daily as they will become the best trustworthy person you've ever met!!!!!! Take their responsibilities on as regular tasks. Something as simple as checking a BGS is the winner :)

    My tip to you, heather, is that don't let relatives and family members dictate your job (as trivial and obvious as that sounds). I had that phase in the beginning of my career (6 years ago) and felt that it was easy to get run over by patients' families.
    But now it's more about creating a picture of authority (which you are as an RN), and if you're convincing enough you'll have minimal problems with the families...

    Thank you so much for sharing your experience and advice. I find your videos very helpful. I am a novice RN from Canada and most of my student clinical experience was in acute care. Because of the higher demand in LTC, I found employment in long term care. I am very new to it, so I really appreciate this :)

    i'm gonna be graduating with my bsn next year, and this was actually super helpful. i feel like right now a lot of info is being thrown at me in classes and that i'm gonna feel pressured to know anything and everything once i get into the clinical setting, but it's reassuring to know that you don't have to know every bit and detail.

    CNAs have shitty jobs and get paid pennies for it , I get it, but there is a job that has to be done. We are taking care of people that can't take care of themselves. A lot of these patients are totally dependent on us , and providing good care is very important, that's our jobs. CNAs don't understand how important they are to us nurses, they truly don't, and they probably do not feel appreciated which is probably why they don't provide adequate care. My thing is, if you are not going to take this job seriously then this is not the field for you, bc being inattentive, sloppy, and lazy, will cause mistakes.

    I'm training to become a CNA and did my first hospital clinical and loved it. But I'm conflicted on what to do after I graduate in 6 weeks. Maybe getting hired and become a PCT. but I'm not sure what my certification will do for me. So far, I like the hospital, so that's a good sign haha. Bt yea thanks for the vids, they help a lot.

    Experience nurse technician do not receive alot of appreciation, especially when we are dealing with lazy nurses. Too many nurses lean on nurse tech or patient care association as crutches to do what he/she have to be involve in. I am speaking as well from experience, at the same time it had taught me what not to be as a future nurse.

      @chocolatehersheykiss7412 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      James Reich people need money to live while is school. Also being a cna is rubbing elbows with nurses and getting experience on how being a nurse can be...If your working with nice people the nurse and doctors at the place you work will give u a good word and you got a RN job as soon as your done school...but you seem like the type of person that likes to tear others down from that silly smart comment you made...

    If your going to work this hard you would do better starting your own business! Being self independent is a world of true self satisfaction! Nursing sounds like slave work.

    • @juan0806
      @juan0806 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      EXPLORTHEARTH Yes nursing its hard but it's also one of the most meaningful jobs out there. You make a great different in people's lives every single day. You can be the difference between life and death. You can be the difference between suffering and happiness. At the end of the day nursing is a calling and not for everyone. Being a business owner can also feel like slavery but it all depends on you as a person and finding good balance between life and work.
