Is the fact that the Facecam Pro doesn't have a mic really a negative? I think it's a positive. More room for Elgato to focus on image quality and other features instead of having a crappy mic included for no one to use.
I think alot of people use the built in mics, most people on the Market want an all in one solution for their desktop or just a mic that's better than the one on their laptop, if size and portability isn't a concern you probably shouldn't even get a webcam just get an old go pro or use a DSLR as a webcam
@The_MEMEphis I went the gopro route and it isn't a great solution. I get a lot of freezes and issues getting it to record correctly. Having a high quality webcam with very convenient and easy to use software is just.. convenient. But I get what you are saying with the all in one solution for laptop users. Good point 👍
The Facecam (and Pro) aren't marketed at people who would actually use a built in mic. It's focused on streamers who don't want to drop the money on a cam link and mirrorless camera. BUT, people who search on youtube "best webcam 2022" may not understand that and it would be a negative.
To me it's a close call between the elgato and the insta360. My brain tells me that the elgato should be better because it is bigger, but the insta360 is simply remarkable for its size and appears to break the laws of physics to punch above its size class, if you will.
The comparable webcam from OBSBot is the Tiny 2, which is somewhat better than the Insta360 and the Elgato. Considering the OBSBot Meet is about the third or fourth tier in their lineup, you'd think he'd use something better to contrast with the Insta360 or Elgato. The OBSBot Tail Air blows all of these away, but at a premium price, so the best webcam of 2024? None of these he reviewed.
The Elgato Facecam Pro is clearly designed for gaming livestreamers. This is the reason behind the 60fps option. Most gaming livestreamers output at 1080p with 60fps which also means 4k quality of a camera exported at 1080p. Just fantastic. Until now to get that quality, you had to buy a DSLR camera and you had to pay way more than $300.
gonna pick up the obsbot meet 4k soon.... i'm in for an upgrade, and the elgato is too expensive... might as well pick up a used mirrorless camera for 100 bucks more... and the insta360 field of view is too small for what i use... it's a shame it doesn't come as a static camera with at least 95 degree FOV... i'm going to replace an anker c300, and the 105 FOV is amazing, but image quality is not there... so obsbot meet it is... thanks...
I thought the Elgato actually looked slightly better, and was a lot smoother with capturing your movements. Would be nice if they release a v2 of the non-Pro. A good quality 1080p would do just fine for my use, but the fixed focus on the current non-Pro model is a deal breaker. Price on the Pro, and lack of availability, is a deal breaker on the Pro.
The Ankerwork B600 is tailored to conference calls. The noise cancelling is excellent. The built in speakers and mic (with mute) allowed me to remove my usb speakerphone from my desk. Using the 65 degree FOV reduces the amount of background that the camera is "tempted" to focus on. The 2k video limitation is not an issue, when your actual outgoing video is MUCH less, in Teams, Zoom etc. Definitely not the best camera for TH-cam videos, but great for web meetings.
Honestly curious at what point it is more worth it to use your phone camera as a webcam versus purchasing a $300 webcam. Other than the Insta360 (which looks incredible) I'd think you'd get comparible quality from any recent mobile device rear facing camera.
actually you would get better quality from a phone, usually. Yet I use a webcam anyway. Mainly it is because USB connectivity allows an always available, and stable camera connection for programs like OBS or, for any video recording application for that matter. No set up every needed, just a constant camera source to select on the fly. With a phone you have to rely on 3rd party programs to use it as a webcam, you have to plug it in and set it up and open the 3rd party program and set that up, every single time. Which doesn't take that long but long enough to be annoying if you wanna do a quick stream or quickly record for whatever reason. And the third party programs, in my experience are all a bit finicky. The wifi stream ones are no good cos they hog bandwidth, but even the USB ones, they heat your phone up, and will drain batteries on some phones even while charging if the quality is high enough. My pixel 7 will drain slowly for example. The charging capability of a PC USB isn't great. Also it occupies use of your phone, whenever you need to record. So you can't use your phone when streaming or have to turn the video off to take a call. The connection never seems totally stable either, not perfectly stable like a webcam at least. Like frame slowdowns occasionally. They aren't all $300, and actually the streamcam by logitech I think is less than $200 now and is in the ballpark of these. It even looks just about as good as the facecam 2 or the Insta360. DIminishing returnms above $200 for sure. Same with the brio or facecam 1 they still look as great as these. For me it's definitely worth it, I hate setting things up when I just wanna do my thing, and really hate the 3rd party apps, or having a stream cutout cos my phone is hot, dying, or the connection bugs out.
Looking at the Insta360 it has a jumpy/jerky kind of look to it as opposed to the Facecam Pro. The Facecam Pro just looks clearer and not jerky at all. Maybe that's the 60 fps as opposed to the 30fps. I definitely know which one I'd lean towards and it isn't the Insta360. The gimble is cool and all but I'm still not feeling it.
does it connect to pc and instantly available as a source though? That's the key for me, it has to be simple setup, constantlly connected, realiable, with no 3rd party apps.
@@JunkBondTrader yes it does. Using an HDMI to micro HDMI cable ($6) and a cheap $30 capture card, both from Amazon. Native Microsoft Camera app picks it up with no issue, I use OBS and Prism and that also works flawlessly.
I get mentioning the microphones, but maybe a little too much emphasis on them. In other words, I do not think that because the Insta360 has a mic and the Elgato doesn't is a reason for it being a better webcam. The mics on them are borderline useful and sound like crap. I bet most people are using external mics anyway. Overall fantastic video, love your content!
Hmm not a very big step up at all from the last generation of cams, the top 3 being the facecam 1, Logitech Brio, or Logitech Streamcam. In fact, I'd say those three, and the facecam 2 are better than the remaining 4. It's so weird how webcam tech seems to lag behind everything else. They should be phone quality by now, or phones should allow camera data transfer through USB. Is it THAT hard to integrate good picture through USB? I guess it must be. Nice video in any case.
As much as I'd love to agree on the Streamcam, which I own and NEVER use anymore, Logitech released an update about 3 or 4 months after it originally came out and the quality went to trash. I compare it to my Elgato FaceCam and there is no comparison at all. It's completely night and day. The Streamcam just has too much graininess for me to ever consider using it again. It definitely isn't for a lack of lighting as I have 2 of the Elgato lights. I just can't get it to look good at all with their current updated software or firmware. It wouldn't even be in my top 20.
Check out the Razor Kyro, or Kyro pro, though they are a tad above $75 USD, in Canada at least. The basic kyro is probably about $75 USD actually, I forgot how strong the USD:CAD is right now lol. Very popular camera choice for a lower budget option outside of these top echelon ones. For calling it would be great, for live streams, it depends on your standards I suppose, I thibk it looks solid for anything really.

A great mic, no, a legendary mic for ~$100 is the sm58. Studios have used them for decades, and live musicians like them a lot too. Like, top studios. But, you need to run them through an interface as they are XLR, if you're looking to take it to the next level, or maybe you already do use XLR. For USB, the Shure the Mv7 is pretty decent for a USB mic. But yeah, don't expect em to to be cheap :p

I like the idea of the gimbal, sure, but it is a gimmick, and is hardly important, if the camera itself, doesn't perform, say in an actual low light situation, with no fancy studio lighting, in the middle of the night, etc. No, while I'm still on the lookout for a webcam with a "large" sensor, but not high resolution, hoping to get some actual dynamic range, among other thing, for low light situations, which in my case, will be the norm, the elgato is still much more interesting, than the other one, whatever it's name, which I seriously haven't got a clue what is. That is the kind of impact it had on me.
You play sitting down in pitch dark? The lens on the 360 has a 1.8 aperture which is very good for low light. All you'd need is some sort of light indirect of the cameras lens.
@@virtualm9772 If he recorded it at 30fps and rendered at 30fps it shouldn't stutter. The footage from the insta 360 really looks like 24fps 4k recording which is the maximum you can do if you don't have the latest firmware.
My 360Link has jerky motion on video recorded on the 360Link controller app but it is much smoother using OBS as the recorder - and with sound offset to get synch, I raised this with Insta360 Tech several weeks ago but have not yet received a technical reply or advice, (using a 2013 MacPro 32GB ram)

the Lumina audio quality is absolute TRASH. i cant believe they okayed this for final release. its so bad i had to skip that section of your vid! Regarding the Insta360: I must warn you, i have the Insta360 and its physical temperature runs incredibly HOT! even when entirely turned off. simply leaving it plugged in it STAYS hot. I also do not like its mic quality, its not awful but it sounds similar to a mid quality $100 mic. You dont really need HDR given it's great visual clarity and quality but if you must tic that box then no, its not HDR 'technically'. The software license also REQUIRES that you share all its software, cam and mic data with China, it has a section stating you're not allowed to "make china look bad" or do anything "immoral" so if that is a concern now you know. It does a great job with its gimbal and doing face or body tracking. even though its a physical gimbal it is not laggy, its fast and should be good for walking around your room at a normal pace. Obviously it can glitch out if you confuse the software with a mirror, so cover or move any mirrors. The software functionality is easy to learn and it does work as intended without problems. The hand gesture controls dont always work, but it does warn you to not overlap your hand with the rest of your body so it can track that gesture more easily, even still it doesnt work most of the time. However, once activated the tracking, zoom & and 'jump to whiteboard placement' work well; you may prefer to use the software controls or the touch controls on the side of the device itself. I would recommend the Auto setting when suitable as it doesnt glitch out like the hand gestures. The insta360 looks small but its actually tiny, which is convenient. The extra cost for the tripod is worth it, it fits snugly and does not wiggle, highly recommended instead of trying to later find something else that pairs well. Overall a great product but crazy expensive for a webcam.
I guess you should have mentioned earlier you were using the webcam's mic. Took me a bit to realize right before you mentioned it. Thought my video quality was on 480p or something.

insta 360 has MAJOR FREEZING issues and you also didnt compare the Razor Kiyo Ultra which i think has the best 4k 30 quality but elgato allowing the 4k 60 is the perfect twitch streaming cam if you can afford it.
The elgato should probably be number 1. That 60fps really adds to image quality. Seeing a 4k video that stutters because it can't keep up is pretty jarring. So the fact that it's the only one with the combo, along with it tying into the rest of the elgato suite is a huge win.
This dude named the best webcam the insta360, which was visibly lagging. Wtf. Facecam Pro hands down the best plug and play facecam that there has ever been.
i use the insta link and its incredible. never stutters and has a super easy time tracking me buuut if you move fast at all it wont track you very well

I think you recorded on 24fps on the Insta 360 link. If you updated the firmware you could have recorded 4K30fps without Audiosync issues

insta 360 has MAJOR FREEZING issues and you also didnt compare the Razor Kiyo Ultra which i think has the best 4k 30 quality but elgato allowing the 4k 60 is the perfect twitch streaming cam if you can afford it.

The elgato should probably be number 1. That 60fps really adds to image quality. Seeing a 4k video that stutters because it can't keep up is pretty jarring. So the fact that it's the only one with the combo, along with it tying into the rest of the elgato suite is a huge win.

i use the insta link and its incredible. never stutters and has a super easy time tracking me buuut if you move fast at all it wont track you very well
